Happy New Year!
I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and New Year! I can’t believe it’s 2017 the years just seem to be flying by! I have to say 2016 turned out to be a really wonderful year for me as I got to spend a lot of time with Freddie before he headed to off to school in September as well as travel to many incredible places working on This Morning and also get back on stage with Exposure The Musical in the summer. It was quite a jam packed year and I’m hoping that 2017 will be just as much fun!
As I mentioned at the end of my last post I recently went on an incredible trip to Australia with This Morning which was just brilliant! We were out there shooting the Jet Set January competition (which is currently on air now) for both This Morning and Loose Women which is one of ITV Daytime’s biggest prizes and luckily for me I got to be the guinea pig as well as the presenter!
Our trip took us to the home of Neighbours, Melbourne, followed with a stop off in incredible Sydney before then jetting of to the Whitsunday Islands to finish our trip with a stay at the stunningly beautiful One and Only Hayman Island at the heart of the great barrier reef. It was amazing!! From visiting Ramsey Street and meeting the gorgeous Alan Fletcher AKA Dr Karl Kennedy to heading through the vineyards and up to the Healesville animal sanctuary in Victoria our first 3 days were spent taking in the sights and sounds of Melbourne with my personal highlight being feeding the wallabies and Koalas at the sanctuary. I did my very best to channel my inner David Attenborough and Michaela Strachan, although was slightly alarmed when the cute and cuddly baby Koala went to hug me with the sharpest talons I’ve ever seen. I’ll admit in a very sissy like manner I jumped back at quite a pace…what is that say about not working with children or animals?
From our adventures in Melbourne we then jetted up the coast to Sydney which was just gorgeous. Staying at the Intercontinental Double Bay Sydney, we were treated to fabulous views over the bay from our rooms and from the roof top pool on an evening. Our Sydney stay was somewhat of a pit stop as we had an awful lot to fit in in just a couple of days including a trip up to the Blue Mountains which was simply breathtaking, a visit to both Bondai and Tamarama beaches and a sailing trip on our own private boat around the world famous Sydney Harbour taking in the incredible sights of the Opera House and bridge.
Following on from our whirlwind Sydney tour, where we were lucky enough to experience the local cafe culture and savour deliciously fresh food, we then made our way by plane up to Queensland landing on tiny Hamilton island in the Hook Islands before taking a stunningly beautiful 50 min yacht ride to the super exclusive One and Only Hayman Island resort. On approach to the island you can’t help but have the theme tune to James Bond’s You Only Live Twice in your head as the location is very much straight out of a Bond film. With a mountainous backdrop, lush tropical gardens and perfectly white sandy beaches surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters I genuinely had to pinch myself that I was there as part of my job!
We spent 5 incredible days on the island filming in various locations both on and off shore and I’m very proud to say that I’ve had the opportunity of snorkelling in the heart of the great barrier reef, albeit for about 10 minutes as the fear of huge fish and my over imaginative brain deciding to play the Jaws theme tune in my head meant I spent the remainder of the time on the sand whilst our crew got the last of the shots they needed. I absolutely loved my Australian adventure and really hope I’ll get to go back at some point as I totally fell in love with the country and its varying landscapes and I can completely see why so many Brits choose to emigrate out there, however for now I’m staying put in good old Great Britain, that is until the next adventure comes along!
During my trip I wore a variety of outfits with a couple of my favourites being this gorgeous embellished Kaftan from Forever Unique and this Ombré dress from Monsoon. I also loved this little white dress from Asos and coral coloured lace number from Oasis.
After Oz I had the mammoth task of preparing for Christmas as we had so many people staying over during the break which was quite difficult as I didn’t finish work until the 23rd of Dec!! Nevertheless we all had a really beautiful although a little chaotic if i do say so myself, time with Freddie absolutely relishing every minute of it and to to be honest I wouldn’t have it any other way. I think I’d be a bit lost without the family fun and madness over Christmas, however in contrast I do like a bit of calm over New Year and so as is now becoming a bit of tradition of ours we travelled up to the North East coast to see in the New Year in Whitby and it was just perfect!!
And so with Christmas out of the way and a New Year on the horizon its been the old cliche of getting back to the gym and eating healthily for me over the past week or so. My gorgeous best Mariesa who runs her own Vegan and raw food company Happi Food www.happifood.co.uk has been supplying me with lots of yummy treats including pineapple and banana smoothies, raw carrot cake and tasty protein balls.
I’ve actually found out something really interesting about bananas….did you know that they are amazing for getting rid of fluid retention? neither did I, but they are, actually really good!! Water retention runs in my family and it can be extremely annoying however by having a banana a day alongside my breakfast I’ve noticed that I have hardly any at the moment and this is quite rare as whenever I start back at the gym my muscles always swell with water for the first couple of weeks (I’m pretty sure it’s the shock of actually getting them moving after being super lazy from about Nov onwards) and yet at the moment I don’t seem to be suffering like I normally would. So ladies if you’re feeling a bit puffy grab yourself a banana!!
Alongside getting back to the gym I’ve also been very busy building my online business The Capsule, which I’m absolutely loving!! As you all know my passions are travelling and fashion and so getting to write about those things is amazing for me and last night was extremely exciting as The Golden Globes took place in LA and so it was all about the red carpet!! There were some extremely interesting choices however for the most part I think it was a very good show from our favourite A-listers and the designers themselves.
One of my absolute favourites Zuhair Murhad who I’ve mentioned many times in this blog dressed a host of stars in his exquisite creations and so it’s no wonder that two of my favourite looks were created by him, Lily Collins in a beautifully intricate blush pink princess gown and Olivia Culpo in a heavily embellished black and jewelled dress.
My other notable mentions have to go to Emma Stone who shone like a star in this stunning etheral gown by Valentio and Naomie Harris who sparkled in Armani Privè. There were also a couple of distinct trends on the carpet last night. Pink featured heavily as did gold and silver metallics. I recently did a story on The Capsule about the Pink Coat being a huge trend for Winter into spring and can see already that pink looks set to be a staple for spring/summer too! I wore this Lipsy version to present my last item on This Morning before Christmas…it is SO warm!!
Anyway here’s a few of my favourite looks from last night’s Golden Globes.
Lily and Olivia
Emma and Naomie
The silver trend!
The golden girls!
And so I’m going to say goodbye for now as James and I are heading off to the Lake District this weekend, which will be lovely as like I said it’s been very busy over Christmas and I was away before that and will hopefully be a nice little treat before I start working on a new theatre job, which I’ll be able to give you more details on in my next post.
Have a great week
Love Natalie Xx
