Floral city escape
Restaurant: Petersham Nurseries, Richmond
For a break from the hustle and bustle of central London, Petersham Nurseries is the perfect getaway for a charming and healthy lunch.
Set in the heart of Richmond, this idyllic hidden gem combines restaurant, tea house, shopping boutique and a garden nursery overflowing with flowers and plants. Every angle of the nursery is picture perfect and #instafabulous.
On entering the glasshouse, you find yourself in a beautifully orchestrated boutique shop, full of vintage and shabby chic country pieces for your home. It’s an Aladdin’s cave of homely elegance and charm. Vintage chandeliers sparkle and allure. Beautiful flower arrangements prettily enhance the displays of plates, glasses, home accessories, gifts and cards.
In the dining room each table is adorned with seasonal flowers, adding to the charm of this restaurant.
Seasonal organic ingredients are used throughout the menu. The food is presented in a rustic manner with many dishes being beautified with edible flowers.
The Portland crab, lemon, pink radicchio and wild sorrel appetiser was such a dream! So many delicious dishes on the menu – my mother and I decided to share lots of starters and a main course of cheese gnocchi.
For dessert we opted for a trio of blood red orange sorbet, orange and chocolate mousse, a little rich for my palate, and rhubarb stew and sorbet with a pastry crust – so very good, my favourite!
I fell in love with the chilled vibe and beautiful floral surroundings. Petersham Nurseries is definitely worth the trek out of London. It is a sanctuary that delights – delicious food, chic home ideas and enchanting flowers and plants. You will not be disappointed and Richmond town centre is just a pretty 20-minute walk away. A refreshing break from the city.
