I’ll be doing a Twitter chat on Monday…

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had lovely weeks and are looking forward to the weekend! I will be doing a Twitter chat on Monday and answering all your questions so make sure to follow @hellomag and send them with #HELLOUna !

The girls and I were working on some choreography the other day, but I think we ended up being a choreographer’s nightmare – we just had no attention span! It was the first time since Frankie had her baby that all 5 of us were back together learning a routine, so we kept talking and joking. We’d be in the middle of starting to learn it all and then one person would blurt something out and it would start all over again.

theband

Luckily, our choreographer Aaron is a good friend – he was in S Club Juniors with Frankie and Rochelle – and knows that when it comes down to it we buckle down and learn it properly. I often go home and practice – poor Ben has no interest in dance but I make him watch it. The funny part is our routines are meant for 5 people, so it looks weird when you do it on your own. Aoife often tries to join in – any time any music plays, she loves to dance.

My friend nominated me for a no make-up selfie the other day –  it took a few attempts before I had one I liked, but I think everyone does that when they take selfies! It can be a bit daunting to go bare-faced but I think it’s a great cause, so I fully committed (no filter or anything!). I then nominated our hairdresser Nick, so he had to do one with make-up on. I got to do his make-up which was hilarious, he was such a good sport.

nomakeupselfie

I’d just arrived at a shoot and had no make-up on, so it was meant to be. I donated too – it’s such a great cause, the charity does amazing work and it’s nice to think that selfies are actually helping someone. It’s spread over to Ireland too, they’ve raised over 1million euros. And that’s just a small country like Ireland, so it shows you how huge the campaign has become.

This weekend I’ll be going to Rochelle’s fancy dress birthday party which will be really fun as she’s been getting so excited. I’ve made my costume which could make for an interesting outfit….

Ben and I love to do television marathons…

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well and have had lovely weeks! When I’m not songwriting or recording with the band, I’ve been catching up on television shows I’m obsessed with.

I used to be a huge cinema fan, but since having Aoife I haven’t been nearly as much as I used to. However it’s meant that Ben and I have started being glued to television series. We spent so much time watching all three series of ‘The Killing’. We love to do television marathons – we once watched about 7 episodes in one day!

benanduna

I’ve also been obsessing over an Irish drama called ‘Love/Hate’ – I like to follow Irish television because it feels like being home!

Ben and I were a bit stuck on what to watch next, but someone recommended ‘Luther’ so we’ve got the box set – I’ve heard such good things so I’m quite excited! What do you all like to watch?

Ben absolutely loves ‘Game of Thrones’ so I’ve been watching it a bit, although I drift in and out a bit. There’s always so much happening that it’s easy to lose track, plus characters keep being killed off and replaced so I sometimes forget who is who! Ben’s very excited that it will be back on television soon though.

When it comes to films I don’t really have a favourite – there’s so many options now, I feel like we’re all a bit spoiled for choice. I miss the days when as a child, you opened the TV guide and you had to pick one of the few films that were showing. It made it so exciting to choose, but nowadays with things like Netflix you have thousands of choices! Still, it’s nice to know there’s something for whatever mood you’re in.

I remember my worst haircut ever…

Hi everyone,

Hope you are having a lovely week, despite the grey and rainy weather!

Ben and I took Aoife to a sing-a-long of Disney’s Frozen a few days ago. The atmosphere was great as all the kids sang along. Even the adults joined in – I think they might have been even more into it than the children!

una13thfeb

Aoife enjoyed it for about 10 minutes, then decided to get up from her seat and run around. It was the first time we had ever taken her to the cinema, but I’ve realised now she’s still a bit too young. I was a bit disappointed we had to leave early as the film looked really good, so Ben and I are going to go and see it if we can.

I really love the new hairstyle Amanda Holden debuted at Britain’s Got Talent, it looks great. I like to leave my hair down generally, although I like a chic updo for the red carpet. When I’m around the house, I prefer a messy bun – it’s so easy to do and it keeps my hair out of my face.

unafeb13th2

I remember at the beginning of the Saturdays, I had my worst haircut ever. The hairdresser at the time convinced me to cut a fringe in, and I hated it! I tried to hide it by parting it in the centre, but that only made it worse because then it looked like I had curtains. It was awful. So for our very first music video, If This is Love, I had dead straight hair with curtains. Luckily nowadays I can laugh about it, but I definitely won’t be repeating that style again.

I love to use Kérastase products in my hair, as my locks go through a lot of stress. I leave their products in my hair overnight, about once a week, and I also use their shampoo. It’s great because my hair is coloured, so it helps lock in the shine.

When I was younger, I dyed my hair all the time. I’ve been blonde, dark brown, black. I’ve even had blonde highlights, but they were hard to maintain because my natural hair colour is mahogany brown, so they needed a lot of upkeep. I love the colour I have now, it’s becoming my signature look.

Aoife’s hair is amazingly silky and thick. I play with it all the time, doing different styles such as pigtails, buns and ponytails. I have to put her in front of the television to get her to sit still though, otherwise she gets distracted starts moving around a lot.

My mum is my number one fan

Hey everyone,

Who’s feeling Christmassy? I definitely am! I’ve almost finished my Christmas shopping, I’ve got just a couple more bits to get which I’m hoping I can do at the airport when the Sats fly up to Glasgow for a gig at the weekend.

una-pink-600

It was so lovely to have Frankie back with us to perform the Top of the Pops Christmas special. I chose a eye-popping pink dress for that, quite a fun and festive look. We also all got together to perform on Strictly last weekend. We went for a sophisticated black and gold look. I really loved the black Hervé Léger bandage dress I wore for that.

una-strictly-600

You’ll be seeing a lot of the Saturdays on TV on Christmas day – in Ireland you’ll be able to watch the first of the Una’s Dream Ticket series, Rochelle will be performing on the Strictly Christmas special and the five of us will be on TOTP.

I’m not really one for watching myself on TV – I’ve already done the filming and I’m happy with how it went so that’s enough for me. I’m spending Christmas with Ben’s family and some of our friends so if they want to watch it then I won’t stop them. I know my mother will definitely be tuning in – she always does, she’s my number one fan!

Speak to you all soon.

Why I changed my surname to Foden over a year after we got married

Hey everyone

Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend. I’ve just been chilling out with my family who are over from Ireland this weekend so it’ been great to catch up with them.

Last weekend Ben and I had a box set marathon with The Walking Dead. We watched three episodes then broke it up with X Factor before we watched the next two. We’ve got five episodes left of season three to go so I’m looking forward to the rest. I watch quite a lot of box sets and I have to say that I think The Walking Dead is the best I’ve ever seen. You might think “where is this going?” at the beginning of it but hang on in there because it gets really good.

una-b

I’m enjoying X Factor too. There seems to be lots going on this year, quite a lot of juicy dramas. I’ve been keeping up to date with it all online. I really like seeing what’s going on in the world but I’m careful not to get too caught up in anything that’s written about me. I sometimes look up what we’ve being doing as a band to see what people have been saying. I tend not to look at stuff that’s just about me though. If I’m going to see something negative written about me, it’ll probably be on Twitter. I’ll see lots of nice, positive tweets but it’s always the one nasty one that jumps out at you. You need a thick skin for this business and you have to teach yourself to laugh off and block out any negativity. The worst thing you can do is respond.

una-dress

You might have seen on Twitter that I’ve officially changed my name to Una Foden. Obviously I changed my name to Foden when I got married and I’ve used the name Foden ever since outside of work. But it had all got rather confusing and I felt like I’d reached a point where it made more sense for my family if I called myself Foden at work too. I went somewhere the other night with Ben and saw our names on the namecards (and they’d spelt Healy as Healey) so that was the final straw for me. I thought it made more sense to be sitting together as husband and wife with the same surname so I decided “I’m just going to use the name Foden from now on.”

Ben and I went to the Attitude Awards last week. I took this photo of our manager Peter and Daniel Radcliffe together because the two of them look so alike. Peter had been told that lots of times before so it was a really funny coincidence that they ended up sitting together. Daniel won the award for best actor that evening. It was nice to chat to him at the table. I saw him in Woman in Black and thought he gave an amazing performance.

I saw Cher there too and shared a little Instavid of her. There were lots of big names there and it was a fun evening. I wore my new Jimmy Choos that Ben bought me for my birthday with an Amen Couture dress.

Speak to you all soon.

Frankie’s baby boy’s wardrobe is amazing already!

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re having a good weekend. Did anyone tune into Sunday Brunch and hear the Sats performing an acoustic set? We met up with another acoustic player and a percussionist this weekend to perfect it so I was really excited for you to hear it. I hope you found it lovely and chilled — just how Sunday mornings should be.

Disco Love is out on Sunday so you’re going to be seeing us on TV a lot next week – we’re doing Daybreak, This Morning and the Alan Titchmarsh show. We’re also going to be on the radio and will be doing some online stuff too which is an incredibly important part of our work now. We’ve also going to be on Surprise Surprise on Sunday night with a really special treat so keep your eyes peeled for that too.

una-guitar-z

We’re all missing Frankie so much. She’s getting pretty bored at home waiting for her little baby boy to arrive but he’s not far away. He’s going to have the best wardrobe going – I’m sure you’ve seen the photos she’s been posting on Twitter – that’s not even the half of it!

Alaia-Mai is really well too. Marvin brought her along when we were performing last weekend so the Sats aunties got to dote on her. She didn’t have her ear defenders on so she couldn’t come to the side of the stage, so he stayed backstage in the dressing room with her. I hadn’t seen her for a couple of weeks and she seemed to have really grown. She still looks teeny tiny compared to Aoife who’s becoming like a proper little girl now.

I’m really looking forward to being treated for my birthday by Ben next week. My birthday’s on the 10th October but we’ll be celebrating the day before because that fits in best with our schedules. We’re going to the theatre in London, having dinner in the West End and spending the night in a hotel. Can’t wait to tell you all about it next week!

Lots of love,

Una xxx

Ben and I watched One Direction’s first ever auditions on YouTube

Hey everyone

Hope you’re having a great week. I’ve had a few days at home with Aoife which has been lovely.

I’ve been catching up on TV too. I’m loving the X Factor and Downton Abbey being back on – I’m big fans of both. Ben and I watched the X Factor together the other night with a takeaway once we’d put Aoife to bed.

While we were watching we thought it’d be really funny to watch One Direction’s first ever auditions on YouTube so we did and it’s amazing to see how life-changing the show was for all of them. They went in as five very young individuals and got put together – just look where they are now! A  couple of them had auditioned before and Liam had made it to the judge’s houses so it just goes to show that you can go back and still make it.

I thought the new seat system where you get a place but it might be taken away from you is quite harsh. It must be horrible being up on the stage with the whole room watching you and having your place taken away from you. However I don’t think the contestants can complain too much because you know when you’re entering that kind of competition that you might end up in a position like that. TV shows like X Factor are known for introducing all these twists because the format has been going for so long so they have to introduce new things to keep people interested in the show.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the live shows, that’s when things get really exciting. The UK music scene is really welcoming of fresh talent. People just need to fill spaces that haven’t yet been filled by bringing something new and different to separate themselves from the rest.

SPL109457_003

I spent hours and hours signing album posters and CD singles last week. I got comfy on the sofa and got into the swing of it and got through stacks and stacks of them. Sometimes people are surprised when they find out that we do the signing ourselves and they think it’s done by a machine but it’s not. I think it’s really nice for our fans to have a keepsake single or poster signed by us. CD singles are really popular with our fans still, they’re almost a collector’s item nowadays. The first ever single I bought (in tape form!) was Michael Jackson’s Bad. After that it was True Blue by Madonna and Kylie Minogue’s Locomotion – so eighties, I really wore those tapes out, they were my world!

cds-2

I remember the days when everyone used to record songs off of the radio to make homemade tapes, you’d have to pause the recording before the DJ cut in and you had to be really on it to get a smooth recording! My sister and I used to record ourselves singing and we’ve kept the tapes so they’re very funny to listen to now and again. When our cousins came over we used to have singing competitions and talent contests, I used to get really upset if I didn’t win so they came up with a way to make everyone a winner to keep me happy.

cds

I’m a big radio listener – I love Heart for chilled music, Radio One for up to date stuff and Radio 2 for a bit more conversation and older, classic tunes. My latest album download is an American country album which is full of lovely songs.

Our new single Disco Love is out on Sunday so we’re doing lots of promo work for that. I’ll tell you where you can see and hear us in my next blog post.

Speak soon.

My heart melted when I found out Aoife recognised me singing on TV

Hey everyone,

Did you catch Mollie, Rochelle, Vanessa and I performing on Stepping Out on Saturday night? I’m so happy to say the performance went really well. It was a huge production with all the dancers and skaters so it was great to pull it off. It’s funny because you spend what seems like ages rehearsing for a performance like that and then it’s over in a flash.

sats-1

You might have seen a photo on Twitter of us meeting Mel B. Mollie and I were properly starstruck. She walked in to our dressing room and said hi and we were trying to play it cool, and then as soon as she left me and Mollie were so excited and screaming ‘Arghh! We’ve just met Mel B!’ We couldn’t believe that someone who was once on our posters on our bedroom walls had just walked into our dressing room!

I absolutely loved the Spice Girls when I was younger. I was the sporty one in my group of friends when I was younger so I was often likened to her. I never had a favourite though – I just loved them all and the fact that they had their own individual characteristics.

una-lippy

We managed to catch some of the performances before we went on stage and we were so impressed. The level is so high, their performances were flawless. Oritsé Williams and his girlfriend AJ Azari blew me away with their performance, they were just outstanding. Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and his wife Jackie were great, as were Brian McFadden and his wife Vogue but I do think Oritsé and AJ will pip them to the post in the final next week.

I posted a little video of Aoife watching me and the girls performing on Saturday night. Our nanny Ruth videoed her in front of the TV in the kitchen in her highchair. At the beginning she’s leaning on her elbow, hand on her head and she’s not really bothered or watching properly. Then she starts getting in to the groove, and then she spots me and hears my voice – which is so cute to think that she’s getting more and more intelligent and recognising me and she’s just screaming ‘la la la’ and it was so cute. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it myself, my heart melted!

Speak to you all soon.

Lots of surprises in store for our first-ever performance of the new single Disco Love

Hey lovely readers,

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend – the Sats are building up for an exclusive, first-ever performance of the new single Disco Love tonight. We’re going to be singing live on Stepping Out on ITV at 6:30pm and we’d love you to tune in.

The Saturdays have put loads of energy into perfecting the performance this week and we’re really happy with the way it’s turned out and can’t wait for you to see it. The cover of the single gives you a little hint of what you might see but I can’t give away too much before the show starts – just know that it’s going to be really spectacular.

una-rehearsal

We’ve got lots of incredibly talented dancers involved and other exciting people there. We learnt the choreography for the dance one day last week then put it together with the dancers the next day. I love learning new routines and we always have fun when we’re in the studio.

I’m so happy to say that the Sats have had some really great feedback about our new Living For The Weekend album cover. Although the album has a very pop party vibe, we wanted to go with a more classic cover. We’re always very much involved with all the covers of our singles and albums and thought the all black outfits reflected a more sophisticated vibe.

I always read your comments and love hearing what you thought of our performances and outfits so be sure to leave your feedback on my blog.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Filming my new TV show, missing my little girl and buying gifts for Frankie’s baby boy

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reading my blog – hope you’re enjoying it.

I’m writing this post on my way back from Ireland this week. It’s so great to be working over here. I’ve been filming for my new TV show Una’s Dream Ticket. I’m presenting the show which grants under 16s their dreams and wishes so it’s a really warm, light-hearted programme and I’m loving the experience. On Monday I had a day of back to back interviews with some of the lovely contestants. They’ve been telling me about their dreams – people they want to meet or jobs they’d love to do – and they have been really sweet. It’s an RTE production so it’s only going to air in Ireland and it’ll go out towards the end of this year.

una-rte

I’m really missing my little girl Aoife this week. It’s the first time that both Ben and I have been away from her for a few days and we’re both suffering, as well as missing each other. But we know she’s being very well looked after by Ben’s parents in Cheshire and is having an amazing time. We’re checking up on her all the time and her grandmother has been telling me how she’s loving their cats and dogs and spending time with her cousins. Hopefully she’ll be calling for her Mama in a couple of days – it’s funny how you really want your children to miss you. Ben is going to pick her up today so that she’s there when I get home. I can’t bear to be apart from her for too long so I’ll be taking her with me to the Sats’ rehearsals at the end of the week.

The Sats flew over to Ireland for a couple of days because to film a performance for the show and it’s been great having them here. We’re missing Frankie of course – I saw her last week and she said she was getting a bit bored which is unsurprising given how busy life usually is as a member of the Saturdays. I told her that once her little baby boy arrives she will never, ever say those words ever again and she was happy to hear that! She’s due next month and we’re all very excited about her new arrival. It feels like Frankie’s had a bump forever so it’ll just be wonderful to meet him and I can’t wait for Aoife to meet him either. I’ve already bought a couple of baby gifts and want to get a few more bits once he’s born. It’s best not to get too many newborn outfits because they outgrow them so quickly. I want to get him some clothes for when he’s around six months old and some toys that I think he might have fun with.

I can’t believe how cold it has got recently. It’s a real shock to the system and I’ve gone from summery dresses back to tights overnight. Although I love the sunshine, there are definite advantages to the colder months like if you haven’t got time to fake tan or, dare I say it, shave your legs!

I bought an amazing Reiss coat in the sales at the end of last season that I can’t wait to start wearing. It’s a sheepskin coat and although it was a real splurge, it’s a classic investment piece that I’ll have forever. It looks so cosy and I think it’ll be really versatile too – so expect to see me wearing that a lot this winter. I’m also looking forward to digging out my favourite studded Chloe ankle boots. When it gets really cold I’ll be popping my Uggs on. I know they’re not so fashionable anymore but they just can’t be beaten for toasty feet in the winter. Aoife’s winter-ready too – I’ve got her a pair of dinky red wellies so she can splash in puddles to her heart’s content!

I can’t wait to tell you more about the Sats’ rehearsals which are taking place tomorrow… very exciting!

Speak soon.

With love, Una xxxx
