The Sats get on wonderfully well

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re having a good week and enjoyed the bank holiday weekend.

It’s amazing that Miley Cyrus’s VMA performance was still trending three days after she did it. She certainly got everyone talking and the viewing figures were apparently much higher this year, no doubt in part because of her performance.

Miley is going down a different road now that she’s a grown woman rather than a Disney teenager. Personally, I don’t see why she shouldn’t. She’s her own person and she should be free to express herself. Madonna was always controversial with her outfits and performances and of course Lady Gaga has shocked people in the past. I can see how it might offend some people but personally I really enjoyed it.

That track Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke really makes you want to get up and dance. It’s one of my favourite songs of this year, a real feel good tune. The only bad thing I have to say about it is that it didn’t win an award when it really should have!

When you’re in the public eye, you do get used to things being written about you that aren’t necessarily true. Recently we saw a few stories about The Sats not getting on and although we don’t normally rise to rumours, this one just couldn’t be further from the truth. Our group get on wonderfully well and spent lots of time together at V Festival so I’m not sure where they came from.

After V, we had more shows in Scarborough and Liverpool. We love doing gigs up north and we often say that the further north you go, the louder, bigger and better the crowds are (not to say that they’re bad down south, we love our fans everywhere but there’s definitely a different vibe up north).

One of my most memorable gigs ever was actually in Glasgow, the crowd were just buzzing. It was our first-ever headline show and there were around 3,500 people and I just remember being really taken aback by it all. Seeing all the faces in the crowd, the big screens and feeling the excitement, we all looked at each other at one point and we were like “I can’t believe this is happening!”.

Our Friday night gig was in Scarborough in a really cute and unique venue right next to the beach. It was outdoors and there was a little lake in front of the stage, we’d never played in a place like that before and it’s good to do something different.

On Sunday we had a radio gig with Juice FM in Liverpool which was really fun. As we drove through Liverpool we all said how lovely it was, the buildings were really beautiful. Apparently the shopping is amazing too but unfortunately we didn’t have time to put it to the test.

I love how the Liverpool girls really make an effort for their nights out. That’s often the best part of the night, the getting ready with your friends, trying on different outfits, doing your hair and makeup and catching up with everyone.

Speak to you soon!

I’m thrilled that Michelle Heaton is expecting her second baby

Hello everyone,

It’s been a busy week for the Sats. After our performances at V, our new single Disco Love premiered on the radio. We spoke to Capital Radio and went along to Radio One for Scott Mills’ show to introduce it to listeners on Monday.

We think it’s a really fun track and can’t wait for you to see the video. It was great fun to shoot and there were lots of outfit changes – but that’s all I can say for now, you’ll have to wait until you see the video when it comes out next week… The cover might be a bit of a giveaway but I can confirm that the Sats do go to a roller disco in the video. My laces are the blue ones on the cover photo – I’ve got a bit of an Irish theme going on with the socks there.

We’ve had some fantastic feedback so far on the new single so we’ve got really high hopes for it. I’d love to know what you think of it.

I’m hoping to catch up with my good friend Michelle Heaton next week. She announced on Monday that she’s expecting her second baby and I’m absolutely thrilled for her and her husband Hugh. Their daughter Faith was born a couple of months before Aoife so it’s always lovely to see them together when we have our playdates. Michelle and I got to know each other through a mutual friend Tara a couple of years ago. Our friendship really grew when we were both pregnant. That’s often the way because you bond over sharing the experience.

The Sats have got shows on Friday and Saturday in Scarborough so lots to look forward to – hope to see some of you there.

Speak soon.

Getting ready with the Sats at V

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reading my blog, I hope you’re enjoying it. Lots of fans were asking about our V Festival outfits and hair and make-up so I thought I’d tell you about my festival look.

It takes us a while to get glammed up before we go on stage – probably a couple of hours in total. In terms of our outfits, we really wanted to go for something bright and colourful given that V is a summer festival. My fringed skirt was so much fun to wear – it was handmade and it was inspired by a Kenzo skirt that I’d worn previously. My boots were from Dune. Our outfits were designed by our stylist and there were a few bits of high street stuff in there from Topshop and Missguided.

Our stylist Frank Strachan has an idea of what he’d like us to look like and we try out a few different combinations before deciding what to wear. He knows us well now and knows what we like and don’t like.

I felt that because we were at a festival, I could be a bit experimental so I went for something a bit different with my hair. I had one plait on the side on Saturday and then I had two plaits with a quiff in the middle yesterday. I didn’t do anything too crazy with my makeup, I kept it pretty simple and let the outfit and my hair do the talking.

When we’re performing we like to have extensions in because they give your hair lots more body and length which means it’s fun to swish around. It saves your own hair too. Nick, our hairdresser, uses a lot of heat in our hair to style it so it’s better to put that through the extensions and not sacrifice your own!

I tend to go easy on the jewellery for performances because we’re moving around a lot. I steer clear of necklaces but make up for it with some bangles and big earrings which are a lot more practical when you’re on stage.

While I was backstage and in the Louder Lounge, I wore Guess outfits on both days – a playsuit on Saturday and a dress on Sunday. I teamed my playsuit with a red leather jacket from Oasis and a pair of Steve Maden boots and I wore the dress with Isabel Marant boots.

Did any of you see us at V? Hope you enjoyed the show.

Speak soon.

Niall from One Direction is such a lovely lad

Hi everyone,

The Sats are still buzzing from V Festival – it was an amazing weekend, we loved every minute – both on stage and off stage.

Rochelle and I had our husbands watching from the side of the stage which was wonderful and Niall from One Direction was there with them too.

Niall is really close to Marvin and Rochelle and of course the One Direction boys were at their wedding last year. Niall is such a lovely lad, they all are. Lots of people were asking Niall and I to get together for a photo while we were at the festival so we did – and Twitter went crazy for it! We talked about all things Irish as you can imagine. Laura Whitmore was there too and everyone was joking saying “oh all the Irish are here, watch out, we’ve got an Irish invasion on our hands!”

The Sats saw Beyoncé and thought she was absolutely brilliant. She puts on a great show – the dancers, her band and of course Bey herself. I have to say though that I was a little bit disappointed not to hear more of her classic songs, there was lots of new material that I wasn’t so familiar with but that didn’t stop me enjoying it at all. Rochelle is a huge Beyoncé fan so knew every word!

I loved Beyoncé’s new hair, I wasn’t so keen on the pixie crop but I think the new bob suits her perfectly. We were lucky to get right up to the side of the stage to see her and we were joined by Danny from the Script, Katy B, Alexandra Burke and Tulisa.

In my next post I’ll be telling you all about my festival fashion, hair and makeup looks so stay tuned!

The Sats can’t wait to see Beyoncé at V Festival!

Hi everyone,

Thanks to those of you who came along to our Bluewater gig last Saturday. Our last few performances have been at festivals and racecourses so it was fun to be doing shows again. We love our own shows – seeing our fantastic fans out there in the crowd and singing along to our songs is a great feeling that’s really hard to beat.

Frankie announced that she’s taking a break from shows until she’s had her baby boy. Our routines are always quite physical so it’s better that to take things easy when you’re pregnant – the worst thing you can do is put your health at risk.

We helped one of our band members celebrate his birthday!

We’re really looking forward to performing at V Festival this weekend. It’s our third time performing there and this year we’ve got the honour of opening the main stages. It’s very exciting to think that we’re going to be performing on the same stage as the Kings of Leon and Beyoncé.

We love a good festival – the fun party atmosphere is really infectious. The V festival line up this year is a real corker. The Sats girls are getting there early so that we can see Beyoncé. I’ve never seen her live before – if her TV performances and reputation are anything to go by, she’s going to be amazing! Crazy in Love is the track I can’t wait to hear. I loved Destiny’s Child back in the day too – Say My Name and Survivor are classics.

I’m hoping to get to see the Script and Jason Mraz too – I’m a big fans of both of them. Those two would definitely feature in my fantasy festival line up – alongside my all-time favourite musician Sheryl Crow of course. It’s possibly not what you’d expect from a Sats girl but I have a singer-songwriter background and love a bit of chilled and country music.

Look out for my next post – I’ll be sharing my festival beauty and fashion must haves with you.

Speak soon.

Celebrating five years of The Sats!

Hello lovely readers,

Hope you’ve all had a great week.

We shot the video for our new single Disco Love last week. There was lots to fit in but we managed it all in a day. Because there are various different storylines we had a few different looks so we got to dress up all day – the Sats were in their element!

Time has really flown by and last weekend the Sats celebrated their five year anniversary. I can’t believe it’s been half a decade since our first single If This Is Love.

If someone had asked me five years ago where I thought I’d be now, I’d never have imagined I would be Ben’s wife or that we’d have had a baby together! Five years ago I was single having just broken up with my boyfriend and I was living on my own in a little flat in London.

I don’t look back and think I was a different person or anything but I’m now a wife and a mother so I do feel older and wiser. I sometimes have to pinch myself when I come home from doing a job I love to our little family. I find their support and love very comforting and I wouldn’t give it up for anything in the world.

When someone asks you that question – “Where do you see yourself in however many years time?” – I find it impossible to answer. Of course you know where you’d like to be and you have hopes and dreams but you just don’t know where life will take you.

Five years is a long time for a girl band to be together and I’m very glad to say we’re still very much together. We’ve managed to make motherhood, families and marriage work alongside our careers and I think we’re very lucky to have done so – here’s to the next five years!

This weekend, Ben and I are going to a golf tournament for a charity of which he is a patron, Niamh’s Next Step. He’s playing but I don’t think I’m quite ready for a full round yet. I’m loving taking lessons and I’m improving lots so hopefully I’ll be able to play around before the end of the summer.

Happy Friday!

Speak soon.

Frankie did a fantastic job performing in the heat at Hyde Park

Hi everyone,

Summer is finally here! Hope you’re enjoying this amazing weather we’ve been having.

The Sats performed in the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday night for The Rays of Sunshine concert. It’s such a beautiful venue and really fantastic cause.

The next day we played Hyde Park which was also brilliant – a real contrast to the night before in terms of the venue – but we loved every minute of both performances.

They were both two places on my ‘Venues I’d like to play’ bucket list so to have ticked two off in one weekend is pretty cool. The Rolling Stones had played Hyde Park the night before us so that made it feel very special.

I have to hand it to Frankie, she did such a fantastic job performing in the heat at the weekend. It was boiling, I’ve never been that hot on stage and I remember what it’s like to be pregnant in the heat – you feel about ten degrees hotter than anyone else. She’s about six months pregnant now and I kept looking across thinking ‘How is she doing this?’ But of course she did a great job of it.

Sunday’s gig was part of the ‘Barclaycard British Summertime’ and Sunday was the family day so it was the perfect time for Rochelle and I to bring our babies along. Ben couldn’t make it so our nanny Ruth came along and watched with Aoife from the side of the stage and Marvin was there with Alaia too.

Aoife is beginning to understand more and more about what her mummy is doing up there and I waved over a couple of times to get her attention. Our manager Peter said I looked like the proudest mum in the world looking back at her. I thought to myself ‘How cool is this that I’m singing on stage at Hyde Park and my little girl is watching me’. It was a really great moment.

Mollie told me something really funny that Aoife did yesterday that I thought I’d share with you… There’s lots of different acts over the summer playing in Hyde Park and there was a brochure lying round with a picture of J Lo on it because she’s playing there next weekend and she pointed to J Lo and said ‘Mama’. I thought ‘I’ll take that one’. It was probably just the hair or something but I thought I’d enjoy it anyway – that’s my girl!

Wimbledon was on in our dressing rooms on Sunday so we caught some of Andy Murray battling his way to victory. We were all so happy for him to win, he really deserved that. Mollie actually started crying with happiness! She saw Judy, Andy’s mum, crying and it started her off. It was really sweet.

So after a manic couple of weeks I’m off on holiday to Portugal with Ben and Aoife. I’m so looking forward to being away with my family and switching off for a while. It’ll be lovely to unwind.

Speak to you all soon.

Behind the scenes on our ‘Gentleman’ promo week

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re having a great week.

It’s been a crazy week with the band as we promote our new single Gentleman. You might have seen the Sats on Lorraine and This Morning over the last week. We’ve been at MTV and Kiss FM for interviews and we’ve done a Google hangout too. I’ve got some photos to share with you from behind the scenes.

On the set of ‘This Morning’

Coming up this weekend we’ve got a gig for the Rays of Sunshine charity, who we do quite a lot of work with, at the Royal Albert Hall. On Sunday we’ll be performing in Hyde Park – JLS and The Beach Boys will be there too so we’re all very excited about that.

Vanessa and I ready to rumble!

We had a 4am start ahead of Lorraine but luckily we’re really used to irregular schedules, late nights and early starts and of course we have our glam squad, Nick and Celena, on hand to make sure we’re looking our best.

When I’ve got lots of appearances coming up I try to get to bed before 12 but early nights don’t come naturally to me at all. Even though I’ve got a baby, I’m not used to early starts at all. Aoife goes to bed at around 9pm and wakes up about 12 hours later which is bliss for Ben and I as parents.

It’s great to have Rochelle back

She’s just like me – not an early riser at all! Failing the early night, I have a couple of strong coffees and make sure I eat healthily so that I can keep going.

We were at MTV and Kiss FM

I always make sure to do my vocal warm-ups so that I don’t strain my voice. Your vocal chords are a muscle so it’s important that you work on them. I’m always training them by singing when I’m at home or just doing normal things.

In the middle of all our promo work, The Sats had lunch with a couple of lovely competition winners at the Soho Hotel. The fans were really relaxed and we all chatted away like you normally would at a girly lunch.

Must get back to rehearsals now – I’ll let you know how the weekend goes.

We’re very excited for ‘Gentleman’ to come out on Sunday

Hello everyone,

Thanks for visiting my blog. I see lots of you enjoyed the last one, thanks for all of your lovely tweets, I really appreciate them.

The Sats have been busy promoting the new single Gentleman this week. It’s out on Sunday and it’ll be exciting to see how it does. It’s nice not to have the pressure and everyone telling you “This could be your number one” anymore but of course we still want everyone to enjoy it and we’re hoping for the best!una-blog

There’s no real way of telling how a single will do but as I’ve said before it’s one on my favourites – I love the cheeky lyrics – and I just hope you all like it as much as we do.

Ben and I are celebrating our first wedding anniversary this weekend – it’s hard to believe how fast time has gone. We won’t be going far because I’m busy with the Sats but I’m hoping we can squeeze in a nice romantic dinner or maybe even go to London and see a show. I’ll let you know if he comes up trumps!

Have a great weekend.

Prince Charles is really down to earth and has a great sense of humour

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

The Sats were at the opening of a new Marie Curie hospice in Solihull on Friday. We were there at the beginning of the project when the first bricks were laid so to see this amazing building completed was brilliant.

Prince Charles was there too so it was a real honour to meet him. We were actually introduced to him twice – us girls met him the first time round he came back once my husband Ben had joined us and he recognised him from rugby so popped over again to say hello to him.charles-saturdays-2-b

Charles was really nice, we expected him to be much more formal but he was actually really relaxed. He seemed very down to earth and had a great sense of humour. He was laughing and joking with us and we all had a good chat. Unfortunately I was a bit taken aback when we met him and the only photo I’ve got of me shaking his hand is taken from a really bad angle and is not good at all. I can’t believe I shook hands with a Prince but won’t be framing the moment!

Rochelle is back working full-time with us now. It seems like ages since we were working together and it’s always great to have the five of us together. She takes Alaia-Mai with her wherever she can but that’s not always possible. I remember it being really difficult the first few times I left Aoife when I went back to work because she was all I could think of and I worried about her a lot. But it’s the way our job is but you do get used to it.

Thanks for reading – speak to you all soon!
