I know there’s been some rumours that we’re splitting up…

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re all well and had lovely weekends! This last week has been so exciting for the band because we released our Greatest Hits tour dates and announced the album! Plus, our single Not Giving Up was officially released on Sunday.

Going on tour is one of my favourite parts of being in a girl band. I love everything from picking costumes, to planning what we’re going to do to make it a really great show. We want it to be a huge party for our fans, we don’t want them sat in their seats simply singing along. We’re going to be performing our greatest hits, plus some new tracks, so we want it to be a full-on show. September can’t come soon enough!

satsgreatesthits

I know there’s been some rumours that we’re doing the tour because we’re splitting up, but that isn’t true at all. If we did, we would just tell our fans. This isn’t a farewell tour, we just wanted to do a tour looking back at our singles and celebrating our hits. It’s not the end for us, just a milestone. For us, doing the Greatest Hits tour proves we’re stronger than ever!

I can’t wait to perform ‘Up’ – it was our second single and it’s one of my absolute favourites. To be honest, the whole thing has made me feel nostalgic, as I remember exactly what was happening in my life at the time of each single.

Between show rehearsals, releasing a new single and promoting the tour, life gets crazy. We’ll definitely be taking our kids with us when we travel – none of us want to be away from our families for too long. I love what we do though. You have a few weeks off, then everything gets crazy.

We had time to unwind last week at Rochelle’s Disney-themed party, which was so much fun. I made the top myself by spray painting some shells purple and supergluing them to my top, but the tail actually came from Splash, from one of the mermaid costumes they did in one episode. Ben was initially supposed to be Mickey Mouse, but at the very last minute he decided to be Tarzan.

unaandben

Everyone went all out, I didn’t recognise some people! Rochelle and Marvin’s couple costume as Aladdin and Jasmine was so sweet. The rest of us just mixed and matched – Ariel was with Tarzan, Esmeralda (Vanessa) with her boyfriend (Captain Hook). I think Wayne’s costume was the best, but I loved Frankie’s pirate costume.

frankieandwayne

I also wanted to say thanks to everyone who took part in the #HELLOUna Twitter chat last Wednesday, it was so much fun. I didn’t enjoy having to pick though, I wanted to answer them all! It was so difficult when everyone was asking about the tour because I was so excited and knew we’d be revealing everything – it’s great to finally get it all out in the open!

I’ll be doing a Twitter chat on Monday…

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had lovely weeks and are looking forward to the weekend! I will be doing a Twitter chat on Monday and answering all your questions so make sure to follow @hellomag and send them with #HELLOUna !

The girls and I were working on some choreography the other day, but I think we ended up being a choreographer’s nightmare – we just had no attention span! It was the first time since Frankie had her baby that all 5 of us were back together learning a routine, so we kept talking and joking. We’d be in the middle of starting to learn it all and then one person would blurt something out and it would start all over again.

theband

Luckily, our choreographer Aaron is a good friend – he was in S Club Juniors with Frankie and Rochelle – and knows that when it comes down to it we buckle down and learn it properly. I often go home and practice – poor Ben has no interest in dance but I make him watch it. The funny part is our routines are meant for 5 people, so it looks weird when you do it on your own. Aoife often tries to join in – any time any music plays, she loves to dance.

My friend nominated me for a no make-up selfie the other day –  it took a few attempts before I had one I liked, but I think everyone does that when they take selfies! It can be a bit daunting to go bare-faced but I think it’s a great cause, so I fully committed (no filter or anything!). I then nominated our hairdresser Nick, so he had to do one with make-up on. I got to do his make-up which was hilarious, he was such a good sport.

nomakeupselfie

I’d just arrived at a shoot and had no make-up on, so it was meant to be. I donated too – it’s such a great cause, the charity does amazing work and it’s nice to think that selfies are actually helping someone. It’s spread over to Ireland too, they’ve raised over 1million euros. And that’s just a small country like Ireland, so it shows you how huge the campaign has become.

This weekend I’ll be going to Rochelle’s fancy dress birthday party which will be really fun as she’s been getting so excited. I’ve made my costume which could make for an interesting outfit….

Aoife has started getting into fancy dress…

Hi everyone,

Hope you are well and enjoying the few bursts of lovely weather!

Last week I went for lunch with Anna and Pollyanna, who were also on Splash. We’ve become good friends which is really nice, we’ll definitely meet up again. The restaurant was American-style, and the cocktails were amazing. I love going for food – it’s nice to chat over dinner and properly catch up.

I love Fashion Week, but I didn’t get a chance to go to any shows this season as we were working. I always love Julien Macdonald’s shows, they’re always amazing – we went last year and it was so much fun. I love his clothes, and wear a lot of his stuff. He does beautiful dresses.

unaandaoife

Burberry is another label I love – I think their clothes are a great staple to have in your wardrobe. Their coats are so beautiful and timeless, you just can’t go wrong with a good Burberry coat. I have a duffel-type one from there which is so cosy, and I also have a slightly more fitted coat when I want to be a bit more dressed up.

For shoes, I love that French, edgy kind of look. Saint Laurent does amazing boots, I actually just bought a pair from there the other day. Isabel Marant is really cool as well, the shoes are amazing.

When I buy clothes for Aoife, I usually go to Monsoon. I’ve been buying her clothes there since she was born – Monsoon Baby caters for all ages from 0-12, I think they’re brilliant. There’s so many colours, Aoife loves her dresses from there. I also dress her in a lot of Baby Boden, I think the clothes they do are adorable.

aoifeminniemouse

She’s started getting into fancy dress now – she’s at the stage where she wants to be a fairy, or a princess. She loves Disney’s Sofia the First, but she’s also got a little Minnie Mouse outfit I’ll definitely be dressing her up in! I’d love to take her to Disneyland, I think she’d love it – her first birthday was Disney themed.

We’re so excited to have released our latest video…

This week’s been really good – we released the video on VEVO for our single ‘Not Giving Up’ on Wednesday morning which is really exciting!

We’re so pleased because fans have been sending us really lovely messages, they’re receiving it really well. I think the video really suits the song – we didn’t want this video to have a particular storyline. The song itself is more about a feeling rather than a story. I really love it, I think it’s a fun dance track!

The video is quite edgy for us. We’re all wearing black and silver, with fabrics like PVC and leather. Vanessa and Rochelle had these pencil skirts which weren’t very easy to dance in, but the rest of us were in leggings so it was easy to dance.

una3

I was quite proud as I danced in the highest heels I’ve ever danced in – I did have to take some painkillers to combat my broken toe (it’s still a bit sore). I think heels were necessary because the video is very glamorous, I especially liked the effect from all the wind machines.

una2

In the video I’m on a turntable, which was surprisingly easy to keep my balance. It actually helped that I’d been on Splash recently as I felt quite fearless stepping onto the platform – the only thing that slightly threw me is that it was turning anticlockwise.

Originally, Mollie was supposed to be on the table, but my car got stuck in traffic, and I was 3 hours late, so they switched us around! I think these things happen for a reason though, because we’re both so happy with how it all turned out. We can’t imagine doing the video any other way now.

una1

The light tubes were really cool, but we have no idea where they got them from. Frankie thinks she overheard someone saying they were bought in a farm shop! Some people have been saying it makes them think of Darth Vader and Star Wars.

We’re all really pleased with how it turned out, hope you love it too!

I remember my worst haircut ever…

Hi everyone,

Hope you are having a lovely week, despite the grey and rainy weather!

Ben and I took Aoife to a sing-a-long of Disney’s Frozen a few days ago. The atmosphere was great as all the kids sang along. Even the adults joined in – I think they might have been even more into it than the children!

una13thfeb

Aoife enjoyed it for about 10 minutes, then decided to get up from her seat and run around. It was the first time we had ever taken her to the cinema, but I’ve realised now she’s still a bit too young. I was a bit disappointed we had to leave early as the film looked really good, so Ben and I are going to go and see it if we can.

I really love the new hairstyle Amanda Holden debuted at Britain’s Got Talent, it looks great. I like to leave my hair down generally, although I like a chic updo for the red carpet. When I’m around the house, I prefer a messy bun – it’s so easy to do and it keeps my hair out of my face.

unafeb13th2

I remember at the beginning of the Saturdays, I had my worst haircut ever. The hairdresser at the time convinced me to cut a fringe in, and I hated it! I tried to hide it by parting it in the centre, but that only made it worse because then it looked like I had curtains. It was awful. So for our very first music video, If This is Love, I had dead straight hair with curtains. Luckily nowadays I can laugh about it, but I definitely won’t be repeating that style again.

I love to use Kérastase products in my hair, as my locks go through a lot of stress. I leave their products in my hair overnight, about once a week, and I also use their shampoo. It’s great because my hair is coloured, so it helps lock in the shine.

When I was younger, I dyed my hair all the time. I’ve been blonde, dark brown, black. I’ve even had blonde highlights, but they were hard to maintain because my natural hair colour is mahogany brown, so they needed a lot of upkeep. I love the colour I have now, it’s becoming my signature look.

Aoife’s hair is amazingly silky and thick. I play with it all the time, doing different styles such as pigtails, buns and ponytails. I have to put her in front of the television to get her to sit still though, otherwise she gets distracted starts moving around a lot.

It’s a great start to the year for the Saturdays!

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well! The past few weeks have been so busy with all the training for Splash, and then the Saturdays have been filming our 17th music video which was so exciting. It’s been quite easy getting back into the swing of things because I’ve been so busy, so I feel like I haven’t really stopped.

We’re getting really excited for our new single, ‘Not Giving Up’, the fourth release off our current album. I’m particularly excited because it’s my favourite song from the album. We all really love it, because it’s our style.

Shooting the video was a lot of fun, but I didn’t watch the footage back so it will be a surprise to see the finished product. It’s actually the first video we’ve shot for a while where nobody was pregnant. Frankie was so excited to be back, and she brought Parker with her to the video. He was so cute! I didn’t bring Aoife this time but I have taken her on set before. She gets really excited – she’s at the age where she wants to try everything on, especially all the jewellery and shoes. She likes to cause a bit of chaos!

unapic3rdfeb

I think it’s the most relaxed video we’ve ever shot  – everything went like clockwork. It’s a great start to the year for the Saturdays!

I also just wanted to say thank you for all your kind tweets and messages of support for Splash, it’s been really lovely. It also helped to calm my nerves before the show! I’m sad it’s all over as I was really getting into it, but it has got me back into swimming which is great. There’s a bit after-party after the final, so I’m really looking forward to catching up with everyone again then. For those still in, I wish them all the best of luck: I think they’re all capable of winning it. Thanks to everyone who voted, because of your votes I got to go back and do the Splash-off. The support I received was amazing!

I’m a bit worried I’ll get nervous on Splash…

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well! I’m getting really excited for Splash, but I got nervous watching the others. I’ve seen them training so I know how hard they’ve been working. It’s been nerve-wracking watching them, especially as I don’t know how I will feel when I’m up there! All it takes is last-minute nerves to kick in and make you mess up.

Seeing the others do their best did encourage me though. I want to do as well as I can, so that if I don’t make it through I know I tried as hard as I could. I feel ready for it, although I do think my last few training sessions will really help to make me confident to do the dive. There’s a lot of pressure because it’s live, and they play dramatic music as you approach the end of the board!

UnaSplash

I’m a bit worried I’ll get nervous, but nerves can be a good thing, and luckily being on stage has taught me to get control of them. Plus, I used to swim a lot when I was young, so I already know the feeling of being by a pool before a competition.

Ben, my parents and the band will be there to support me, so it’ll be nice to have them there, especially if I don’t get through. Aoife is a bit too young to come which is a shame, but it’s also probably for the best because I worry she would call out ‘Mummy!’ and distract me.

My mum is my number one fan

Hey everyone,

Who’s feeling Christmassy? I definitely am! I’ve almost finished my Christmas shopping, I’ve got just a couple more bits to get which I’m hoping I can do at the airport when the Sats fly up to Glasgow for a gig at the weekend.

una-pink-600

It was so lovely to have Frankie back with us to perform the Top of the Pops Christmas special. I chose a eye-popping pink dress for that, quite a fun and festive look. We also all got together to perform on Strictly last weekend. We went for a sophisticated black and gold look. I really loved the black Hervé Léger bandage dress I wore for that.

una-strictly-600

You’ll be seeing a lot of the Saturdays on TV on Christmas day – in Ireland you’ll be able to watch the first of the Una’s Dream Ticket series, Rochelle will be performing on the Strictly Christmas special and the five of us will be on TOTP.

photo 4

I’m not really one for watching myself on TV – I’ve already done the filming and I’m happy with how it went so that’s enough for me. I’m spending Christmas with Ben’s family and some of our friends so if they want to watch it then I won’t stop them. I know my mother will definitely be tuning in – she always does, she’s my number one fan!

Speak to you all soon.

You’ll see all five Saturdays back together before the end of the year

Hi everyone

How are you? Ben and I took Aoife to the UGG grotto last week and we couldn’t help but get in the mood for all things Christmassy. I’m really in the mood for Christmas now and am pleased to say that I’m quite ahead with my shopping too. I know what I want to get everyone but it’s just a question of going out and getting it or ordering it now. I’m not too stressed about it though, it’s all under control!

grotto-600

I can’t wait to see Rochelle perform on the Strictly Christmas special. She’s a great dancer and she’s up for the challenge. She’s expecting it to be quite intense and knows that the routines are a very high standard but I know she’s more than capable and I know she’s going to be great.

We rehearse our routines quite a bit but always make sure they’re within all our abilities. All the girls are brilliant dancers but if I had to pick, I’d say Frankie is truly exceptional. We really like the fact that our fans can pick them up at home too, plus we’re very much about our singing too so we don’t want to be out of breath. We’re very lucky to have great dancers who often perform with us – they’re amazing so we leave the really technical stuff to them.

Speaking of our dancing queen Frankie, we saw her last week. She’s on such great form and we’re so glad she wants to get back to work. Parker is really well too, such a cutie. I’ve bought him a super cosy Ralph Lauren Christmas jumper which I can’t wait to see him wearing.

You’ll see us back together as a five-piece before the end of the year because we’ve got a couple of Christmas specials coming up so keep your peepers peeled!

Speak soon.

Frankie’s taken to motherhood like a duck to water

Hi everyone

All five of us Saturdays met up on Wednesday morning for a band meeting. We do it every few weeks do go through our diaries together. We’ve been putting together plans for next year. It will be so nice to have all five of us back together again. We’re putting some great plans in place for our tour and future singles for next year.

Frankie brought baby Parker along which was such a treat. I arrived there first so scooped him up and gave him a bottle. He’s just so cute, he really is. He’s a contented little baby – babies remind me of that track ‘Eat, sleep, rave, repeat’ except it’s ‘Eat, sleep, poo, repeat’ for them. Frankie has taken to motherhood like a duck to water. She’s looking really well and is very happy.

parker-600

Frankie is very confident in being a mum. She hasn’t really asked Rochelle or I for advice but she knows we’d be there if we needed her. The truth is that I feel a little bit out of touch with small babies now. As children grow you can easily forget what it’s like when they’re really young being bottle-fed or breast-fed.

frankie-aoife-600

I flew off to Ireland on Monday to promote my TV show Una’s Dream Ticket but I’m around for the rest of this week for family time.

I’m doing a live Twitter Q&A for HELLO! readers on Thursday 21 November at 4:30pm. Tweet @hellomag your questions using the hashtag #HELLOUna and I’ll do my best to answer as many as possible.
