I’ll be doing a Twitter chat on Monday…

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had lovely weeks and are looking forward to the weekend! I will be doing a Twitter chat on Monday and answering all your questions so make sure to follow @hellomag and send them with #HELLOUna !

The girls and I were working on some choreography the other day, but I think we ended up being a choreographer’s nightmare – we just had no attention span! It was the first time since Frankie had her baby that all 5 of us were back together learning a routine, so we kept talking and joking. We’d be in the middle of starting to learn it all and then one person would blurt something out and it would start all over again.

theband

Luckily, our choreographer Aaron is a good friend – he was in S Club Juniors with Frankie and Rochelle – and knows that when it comes down to it we buckle down and learn it properly. I often go home and practice – poor Ben has no interest in dance but I make him watch it. The funny part is our routines are meant for 5 people, so it looks weird when you do it on your own. Aoife often tries to join in – any time any music plays, she loves to dance.

My friend nominated me for a no make-up selfie the other day –  it took a few attempts before I had one I liked, but I think everyone does that when they take selfies! It can be a bit daunting to go bare-faced but I think it’s a great cause, so I fully committed (no filter or anything!). I then nominated our hairdresser Nick, so he had to do one with make-up on. I got to do his make-up which was hilarious, he was such a good sport.

nomakeupselfie

I’d just arrived at a shoot and had no make-up on, so it was meant to be. I donated too – it’s such a great cause, the charity does amazing work and it’s nice to think that selfies are actually helping someone. It’s spread over to Ireland too, they’ve raised over 1million euros. And that’s just a small country like Ireland, so it shows you how huge the campaign has become.

This weekend I’ll be going to Rochelle’s fancy dress birthday party which will be really fun as she’s been getting so excited. I’ve made my costume which could make for an interesting outfit….

We’re so excited to have released our latest video…

This week’s been really good – we released the video on VEVO for our single ‘Not Giving Up’ on Wednesday morning which is really exciting!

We’re so pleased because fans have been sending us really lovely messages, they’re receiving it really well. I think the video really suits the song – we didn’t want this video to have a particular storyline. The song itself is more about a feeling rather than a story. I really love it, I think it’s a fun dance track!

The video is quite edgy for us. We’re all wearing black and silver, with fabrics like PVC and leather. Vanessa and Rochelle had these pencil skirts which weren’t very easy to dance in, but the rest of us were in leggings so it was easy to dance.

una3

I was quite proud as I danced in the highest heels I’ve ever danced in – I did have to take some painkillers to combat my broken toe (it’s still a bit sore). I think heels were necessary because the video is very glamorous, I especially liked the effect from all the wind machines.

una2

In the video I’m on a turntable, which was surprisingly easy to keep my balance. It actually helped that I’d been on Splash recently as I felt quite fearless stepping onto the platform – the only thing that slightly threw me is that it was turning anticlockwise.

Originally, Mollie was supposed to be on the table, but my car got stuck in traffic, and I was 3 hours late, so they switched us around! I think these things happen for a reason though, because we’re both so happy with how it all turned out. We can’t imagine doing the video any other way now.

una1

The light tubes were really cool, but we have no idea where they got them from. Frankie thinks she overheard someone saying they were bought in a farm shop! Some people have been saying it makes them think of Darth Vader and Star Wars.

We’re all really pleased with how it turned out, hope you love it too!

It’s a great start to the year for the Saturdays!

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well! The past few weeks have been so busy with all the training for Splash, and then the Saturdays have been filming our 17th music video which was so exciting. It’s been quite easy getting back into the swing of things because I’ve been so busy, so I feel like I haven’t really stopped.

We’re getting really excited for our new single, ‘Not Giving Up’, the fourth release off our current album. I’m particularly excited because it’s my favourite song from the album. We all really love it, because it’s our style.

Shooting the video was a lot of fun, but I didn’t watch the footage back so it will be a surprise to see the finished product. It’s actually the first video we’ve shot for a while where nobody was pregnant. Frankie was so excited to be back, and she brought Parker with her to the video. He was so cute! I didn’t bring Aoife this time but I have taken her on set before. She gets really excited – she’s at the age where she wants to try everything on, especially all the jewellery and shoes. She likes to cause a bit of chaos!

I think it’s the most relaxed video we’ve ever shot  – everything went like clockwork. It’s a great start to the year for the Saturdays!

I also just wanted to say thank you for all your kind tweets and messages of support for Splash, it’s been really lovely. It also helped to calm my nerves before the show! I’m sad it’s all over as I was really getting into it, but it has got me back into swimming which is great. There’s a bit after-party after the final, so I’m really looking forward to catching up with everyone again then. For those still in, I wish them all the best of luck: I think they’re all capable of winning it. Thanks to everyone who voted, because of your votes I got to go back and do the Splash-off. The support I received was amazing!

You’ll see all five Saturdays back together before the end of the year

Hi everyone

How are you? Ben and I took Aoife to the UGG grotto last week and we couldn’t help but get in the mood for all things Christmassy. I’m really in the mood for Christmas now and am pleased to say that I’m quite ahead with my shopping too. I know what I want to get everyone but it’s just a question of going out and getting it or ordering it now. I’m not too stressed about it though, it’s all under control!

grotto-600

I can’t wait to see Rochelle perform on the Strictly Christmas special. She’s a great dancer and she’s up for the challenge. She’s expecting it to be quite intense and knows that the routines are a very high standard but I know she’s more than capable and I know she’s going to be great.

We rehearse our routines quite a bit but always make sure they’re within all our abilities. All the girls are brilliant dancers but if I had to pick, I’d say Frankie is truly exceptional. We really like the fact that our fans can pick them up at home too, plus we’re very much about our singing too so we don’t want to be out of breath. We’re very lucky to have great dancers who often perform with us – they’re amazing so we leave the really technical stuff to them.

Speaking of our dancing queen Frankie, we saw her last week. She’s on such great form and we’re so glad she wants to get back to work. Parker is really well too, such a cutie. I’ve bought him a super cosy Ralph Lauren Christmas jumper which I can’t wait to see him wearing.

You’ll see us back together as a five-piece before the end of the year because we’ve got a couple of Christmas specials coming up so keep your peepers peeled!

Speak soon.

Frankie’s taken to motherhood like a duck to water

Hi everyone

All five of us Saturdays met up on Wednesday morning for a band meeting. We do it every few weeks do go through our diaries together. We’ve been putting together plans for next year. It will be so nice to have all five of us back together again. We’re putting some great plans in place for our tour and future singles for next year.

Frankie brought baby Parker along which was such a treat. I arrived there first so scooped him up and gave him a bottle. He’s just so cute, he really is. He’s a contented little baby – babies remind me of that track ‘Eat, sleep, rave, repeat’ except it’s ‘Eat, sleep, poo, repeat’ for them. Frankie has taken to motherhood like a duck to water. She’s looking really well and is very happy.

Frankie is very confident in being a mum. She hasn’t really asked Rochelle or I for advice but she knows we’d be there if we needed her. The truth is that I feel a little bit out of touch with small babies now. As children grow you can easily forget what it’s like when they’re really young being bottle-fed or breast-fed.

I flew off to Ireland on Monday to promote my TV show Una’s Dream Ticket but I’m around for the rest of this week for family time.

I’m doing a live Twitter Q&A for HELLO! readers on Thursday 21 November at 4:30pm. Tweet @hellomag your questions using the hashtag #HELLOUna and I’ll do my best to answer as many as possible.

Frankie is really looking forward to coming back to work

Hey everyone

Did you catch the rugby at the weekend? Even though they were beaten by the All Blacks, England put up a really good fight. I loved watching Ben playing and seeing the Haka was great too. I caught up with some of Ben’s teammates’ partners too. Watching Ben at Twickenham over the past three weeks has been amazing. I can’t wait for Aoife to get a bit older so she can enjoy it too.

una-600

The Sats are going on tour next year which is very exciting. We haven’t done one since the All Fired Up tour in 2011 so we can’t wait to get started. We didn’t want to do it without Frankie but she’ll be back for it and she’s really looking forward to getting back with us.

Frankie will be fine slotting back in because she didn’t really miss a lot. She’ll just have to pick up the routine for Disco Love and everything else she already knows. She’ll slot straight back in because she’s such an amazing dancer – she can literally pick up a routine in five minutes. She’s in regular contact and sends very cute pics of baby Parker. She’s doing so well, motherhood really suits her.

ben-aoife-nosies-600

You might have seen the adorable photo of Ben and Aoife on my Instagram page. They were doing ‘nosies’ which is when they get together for a little Eskimo kiss. Ben says to her ‘nosies’ and she knows exactly what to do. I took the photo last week when Ben and I both had a day off so we went for a family day out. We went for a pub lunch then we took Aoife to the park. It was a gorgeous sunny autumn day and all the colours and crunchy leaves made it picture-perfect.

Catch up soon.

Aoife looked far too cute in her Halloween costume to scare anyone

Hi everyone

Hope you had a very Happy Halloween.

I didn’t dress up this year but put on some ‘spooky’ contact lenses instead! I did dress Aoife up in this little lion costume – I knew all along she wouldn’t scare anyone because she’s too cute! I found a couple of photos from Aoife last Halloween – can’t believe how quickly she’s grown up.

Speaking of adorable Sats babies, Frankie has been sending me the most gorgeous of photos of baby Parker. She’s getting on really well and I can’t wait to see them again soon.

Last year we were were out in LA filming Chasing The Saturdays and we went to a party hosted by Adam Levine from Maroon 5 in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. It was a bit weird being surrounded by lots of graves – I wasn’t too comfortable with the whole idea to be honest but we had a really fun night.

As you can see, this year’s Halloween look (on the left) was a little less dramatic than last year’s!

Frankie is enjoying every moment with her gorgeous, perfect baby boy

Hey everyone,

It’s been quite a week in the Sats world. All of us Sats aunties have been to visit Frankie and Wayne’s newborn baby boy Parker. We all visited on Saturday along with a room full of their friends and family – there was lots going on! I brought Aoife along and she kissed him on the forehead on the way out – it was so cute. Frankie was really glowing and she’s such a natural. It can be quite tiring when you’ve just had a baby, but she’s was just enjoying every moment with her gorgeous, perfect little baby boy.

una and frankie

When she first sent me a photo of him I thought he looked like Wayne. Babies are often born looking like their dads but by the time I met him he looked more like Frankie. Newborn babies’ features are so tiny but they seem to change every day.

I remember when I had Aoife she was the spitting image of Ben at first and I thought “she doesn’t look like me at all” but when she opened her eyes and looked at me I saw more of a resemblance. Her eyes are more blue than mine but they were light unlike Ben’s.

Frankie had Parker at the same hospital in the room next door to where I had that I had Aoife so we’d have been neighbours if we’d had them at the same time. They even weighed the same (7lb 13oz) too. Frankie said they remembered Aoife and I from when I was there, so that was lovely to hear.

una bump

I brought Parker a couple of gifts, one from Ben and I, and one from Aoife, just a couple of cute little baby clothes sets to start with.

I’m looking forward to popping over again to see them but I think it’s important to let them have a few days off to get to know each other now that they’re a little family.

The Sats are performing on Radio One’s Live Lounge on Tuesday morning so I hope you’re able to catch it. We’re doing an acoustic version of Disco Love (which I’ll be playing my guitar in). Our second song will be a surprise cover but we’re keeping it a secret until it happens! We’ve been working on it for the last week or so with a band, putting in lots of harmonies. Hope you all enjoy.

Chat to you all soon.

I can’t wait to meet Frankie and Wayne’s darling baby boy Parker

Hi everyone

I’m so happy for Frankie and Wayne on the birth of their darling baby boy Parker. He was born weighing 7lbs 13oz which is the same as my little girl Aoife. The Sats aunties are all delighted for them and can’t wait to meet him.

It’s been a busy week for the Saturdays because our album Living For The Weekend came out on Monday. We did one of the first ever digital signings earlier in the week. It was pretty amazing, it’s like a virtual signing where you can interact with the fans about the album, answer their questions and scribble a note to them virtually and send it across. It was a real contrast from the boxes of singles that we were busy signing a couple of weeks ago. A lot of what we do these days is digital and social media based because that’s what people want.

una-girls-hug

The fact that much of our work revolves around the Internet has its advantages and disadvantages for us as musicians. I remember when I was younger, if you wanted to get in touch with a band or singer you liked then you had to write a letter. But now you can tweet them or leave a comment on Facebook and there’s a much higher chance of you being able to interact with them.

una-stool

We don’t see every tweet that comes our way but when I log on I do see a lot of them. The Sats’ Twitter accounts are all run by us personally and I look at mine a few times a day to scroll through the mentions and see what people are saying. I follow quite a few of fans too. Some fans spam us for a follow so I tend not to follow them but our genuine fans don’t do that and I’m always glad to follow them. Often I recognise their names or faces from gigs so I like following them to keep in touch. I’m a big fan of Instagram too and those photos go automatically to my Facebook and Twitter accounts.

una-sats-screen

I don’t actually have a personal Facebook account anymore. Someone once set up a quite convincing account pretending to be me and even went as far as sending messages to my friends. The user had somehow got their hands on photos of me from a few years ago and managed to convince one of my friends that it was really me and they exchanged a few messages. It wasn’t until my friend said to be “oh, I’ll message you on Facebook” that I realised she was speaking to someone that wasn’t me. Luckily it was easily sorted and nothing bad ever became of it. For that reason I prefer having a Twitter account because it’s verified so you can be sure it’s me.

An obvious disadvantage of being an artist in the digital age is competing with illegal downloading. It’s being going on for a long time and if people can get away with it, they will do it and the industry suffers because of it.

I’m looking forward to a chilled weekend with my family and friends – I’ll let you know what we get up to next week.

Frankie’s baby boy’s wardrobe is amazing already!

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re having a good weekend. Did anyone tune into Sunday Brunch and hear the Sats performing an acoustic set? We met up with another acoustic player and a percussionist this weekend to perfect it so I was really excited for you to hear it. I hope you found it lovely and chilled — just how Sunday mornings should be.

Disco Love is out on Sunday so you’re going to be seeing us on TV a lot next week – we’re doing Daybreak, This Morning and the Alan Titchmarsh show. We’re also going to be on the radio and will be doing some online stuff too which is an incredibly important part of our work now. We’ve also going to be on Surprise Surprise on Sunday night with a really special treat so keep your eyes peeled for that too.

una-guitar-z

We’re all missing Frankie so much. She’s getting pretty bored at home waiting for her little baby boy to arrive but he’s not far away. He’s going to have the best wardrobe going – I’m sure you’ve seen the photos she’s been posting on Twitter – that’s not even the half of it!

Alaia-Mai is really well too. Marvin brought her along when we were performing last weekend so the Sats aunties got to dote on her. She didn’t have her ear defenders on so she couldn’t come to the side of the stage, so he stayed backstage in the dressing room with her. I hadn’t seen her for a couple of weeks and she seemed to have really grown. She still looks teeny tiny compared to Aoife who’s becoming like a proper little girl now.

I’m really looking forward to being treated for my birthday by Ben next week. My birthday’s on the 10th October but we’ll be celebrating the day before because that fits in best with our schedules. We’re going to the theatre in London, having dinner in the West End and spending the night in a hotel. Can’t wait to tell you all about it next week!

Lots of love,

Una xxx
