Last week I went to the press preview night of Skate at Somerset House. I had an ice skating incident when I was little and have been terrified ever since so getting me on the ice was a bit traumatic — and really annoying for the totally proficient ice skaters I was with.

Anyway, Lily Cole stopped me as I was being dragged round to tell me we had the same hat on… Though it’s no surprise that she was wearing it as it’s her design. Her knitwear sideline The North Circular teamed up with Innocent to design a collection of bobble hats handknitted in the UK by grannies. All sale profits go to Age UK to help keep older people warm this winter and the hats even feature the name of the granny who knitted them  – Lily pulled mine off and told me it had been knitted by ‘Sheila’.

p.s. After a lot of whining and about an hour on the ice, you’ll be pleased to know I managed a few laps on my own. lily1
