Red Carpet Hair continues….

Hello! Readers

It’s Oscar week and all my clients and colleagues are talking about the hair looks seen on the red carpet this year. I felt that the hair was incredibly soft and natural and there seemed to be a lack of bold, statement hairstyles.  All of the soft waves and hair down left me wanting to see more!

There were two main hair trends on display at The Academy Awards: The Quiffed Back Crop and The Deep Side Part. The crop cut is THE cut of 2014 with stars chopping off their locks every week to channel this look. Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron and Portia De Rossi all gave this cut an elegant finish by adding volume and directing the hair back away from the face.

To recreate this androgynous look, you need good products to prep the hair with. Start by blow drying the hair with a small round brush up and away from the face, then sprinkle Charles Worthington volume & bounce texturizing power into the roots to ramp up the volume. Follow by massaging the Charles Worthington style setter wax into hands and scrunching into the ends to create separation and definition, before securing with Charles Worthington max hold spray.

One of my favourite looks from the night was Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett with her tousled waved locks.  This is such a classic look which can be brought right up to date in a modern way by the deep side parting and super shiny blonde tones which compliment her skin tone.

From the men, Jared Leto had the best hair with his iconic dip dyed lengths, and the glam grunge look suits his personality perfectly.  The ombré technique is still increasingly popular and will definitely be around for 2014 for both men and women, however in a softer subtle way.  As we approach spring I’m doing much more of our London Lights balyage service in the salon, as everyone is wanting that long awaited natural spring/ summer lift.

We are running our BAFTA style menu in our three London salons until the end of March for the chance to recreate red carpet hair by the official hair stylists for the EE British Academy Awards. Choose your desired look from the BAFTA style menu from only £31.

Now that the red carpet season is drawing to a close, it’s time for me to focus attention on our upcoming NEW Charles Worthington Hair Collection photo shoot. I took the Charles Worthington art team to Somerset House this week to catch the end of the Fashion Galore Isabella Blow exhibition for some creative inspiration.

Having previously worked with Charles on a collection shoot I wanted to see this exhibition to get inside her head and her way of thinking. Getting to see the work of Alexander McQueen and Philip Treacy up close was spectacular and it defiantly got our creative juices flowing.  We came away with dozens of ideas for new cutting and colouring techniques to start testing and I am very excited about the preparations we are now starting for our collection shoot.

With Paris Fashion Week coming to a close, next week I’ll be reviewing the biggest hair trends and looks of the season so stay tuned!
