What an incredible weekend…

Hello readers!

Well where do I begin….. It’s Monday morning and I’m still buzzing from the excitement from the weekend.  Our 6th year styling hair for the BAFTAs has to be one of our best yet, and I must begin by thanking my entire Art Team for such wonderful teamwork and hair creations – their enthusiasm shines through continuously in everything they do.

This week began for us with our last Bafta Bootcamp training session where we took inspiration from the 1960’s.  We took the voluminous hairstyles and combined them with modern techniques which led us to create some wonderful styles!

Wednesday afternoon I went to the Savoy Hotel to style the hair of Lianne La Havas for a Pre-Bafta photo shoot, and Lianne was so much fun! She was so relaxed and filled the room with her positive energy.  We twisted her hair in fine sections with the Charles Worthington Curl Defining Mousse, 3D boosting crème and Elixir Oil.  I used a diffuser to dry the hair, and then put her hair up in a simple up do.  Lianne loved this look so I created a similar version for her performance at the Asprey pre-nominee party Saturday night.

After finishing in the salon Thursday afternoon, I headed to the Savoy Hotel again to style the hair of Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko.  I created glossy deep waves for a BAFTA event she was attending – she has incredible thick hair which we wanted to leave down. I used my GHD Eclipse to wave the hair back away from the face and used a flat brush to break up and define the waves.  Charles Worthington Shine Booster spray was spritzed to finish the look with incredible shine and also give enough hold.

On Friday morning, before starting on my clients in the salon, I transported all the salon equipment to the Savoy hotel to set up the styling suites for the weekend.  We turned three rooms into a working salon and they looked truly stunning! It is such a glamorous base for the salon team to work in all weekend.

I arrived with the team at 9am Saturday morning and after a quick team de-brief we started styling hair for the Nominee Party, which took place in the beautiful Asprey store.  It’s always such a great party and pre-celebration of the event – you never know who’s going to be there!

Samantha Barks came into our styling suite in the afternoon and I styled her hair for a shoot in the Savoy.  It was great fun, Sam is stunning and such a natural in front of the camera! We managed to shoot 4 different looks in just over an hour.  We finished the shoot with a final shot of her Bafta look for the next day as we had a quick hair rehearsal.  I then put it up into a slick ponytail as Sam was off to watch a show for London Fashion Week!  Check out that amazing dress..

After working hard on hair all day Charles and I attended the Asprey party, and arrived at the same time as Amy Adams – the crowds outside went wild!  It was so exciting walking their red carpet before entering their magnificent store.  We watched Lianne La Havas perform and she has the most amazing unique voice.  As we made our way through the different rooms at the party we bumped into Helen Mirren who is uber chic and was glowing.

On Sunday morning I arrived at our styling suites at 8am to begin styling for the big day! The atmosphere was incredible.  The entire team worked hard all day with back to back appointments; a mixture of BAFTA nominees, competition winners and celebrities all attending the ceremony.  The energy in the suites was so high with everyone gossiping about who they think will win. For me, one of my favourite parts of the day is always observing the hairstyles as people leave – it made me very proud of our team who worked so hard in the build up to the event.

Here’s some pictures of the looks the team created:

Here’s a selection of styles I created for the night:

After styling Eleanor Tomlinson, Samantha Barks and Olga Kurylenko, I headed to the Royal Opera House and set up backstage to do last minute tweaks on hair before presenters took the stage. It’s the BEST place to be as you get to meet all the major A-listers!  The weirdest moment happened when Leonardo Di Caprio asked me if I had any eye drops! Next year I will have to pack some in my kit bag.

Another surreal moment was seeing Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie backstage – the hottest couple there by far.  I loved Angelina’s choice of outfit too, the tuxedo she opted for certainly turned heads as she normally wears full length gowns. Prince William topped the night for many people backstage and his relaxed friendly manor was so obvious for everyone he met backstage. He truly is such a nice guy!

The BAFTA’s was an absolutely incredible weekend!  It’s definitely the highlight for me of the year – I’m so lucky I get to work on such a high profile event, but best of all I get to take the experience and learning s back to my team and clients in the salon.

After all, why can’t everyone have Red Carpet hair every day?
