Celebrate Like Royalty at the Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo

Love was in the air this weekend, as the Cambridges canoodled on their Canadian tour, Kate Moss got hitched to Jamie Hince, and the tiny Principality of Monaco rejoiced at the union of Prince Albert and her Charlene Wittstock.

Some 3500 guests attended the star-studded Royal Wedding including heads of state and the rich and famous. Amongst them were the French President Nicholas Sarkozy, Prince Frederik of Denmark, couturiers Karl Lagarfeld and Giorgio Armani – who made Charlene’s dress. Former super-model Naomi Campbell also made an appearance and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli sang Ave Maria for the happy couple.

All of these illustrious guests, of course, had to find somewhere to pop on their party frocks and and Monaco’s top hotels were on hand to fuss over their fabulous visitors. The Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo, voted the ‘Best Hotel in the World’ last year, enhanced the hotel’s decor with an amorous floral theme.

In-house stylist and florist Miss Rose created a stunning ephemeral floral display in the lobby. Named the ‘Garden of Eden’, the centrepiece was a spectacular Cherry Blossom tree surrounded by a halo of whimsical white flowers. The hotel’s discreet archway entrance was also adorned in white and red flowers, as a subtle nod to the official colours of Monaco.

Discerning wedding guests were able to soak up the city’s regal atmosphere in the palatial surrounding of the Jaques Garcia designed Hotel Metropole. Dining here is a divine experience; the hotel has two marvellous Michelin-starred restaurants; YOSHI and Joël Robuchon Monte-Carlo both of which are celebrity-frequented all year round. Guests were also able to relax in between the three-day celebrations by sipping cocktails at the hotel’s enchanting summer-in-the-city swimming pool or hanging out at the trendy Lobby Bar. The hotel’s fairy-tale pretty suites and junior suites, which feature terraces and stunning views of the ocean, are bound to have been the most sought-after and on-site there is also the celebrated Espa Spa to keep glamorous guests ready for a world-wide audience.

The Royal Honeymoon Begins!

Well the secret’s out! It seems the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have jetted off to beautiful, and molto romantic, Seychelles for their honeymoon. We just knew that Kate’s bikini buying pointed to some upcoming fun in the sun – girls don’t buy beautiful beachwear for a splash in the local swimming pool! I’m so glad that they’ve not waited too long, there’s nothing sweeter than heading off on honeymoon while you’re still basking in the happy glow of your wedding day. And I do hope now that they will be able to spend the next two weeks just as every other honeymooning couple would – happy, together, and ALONE.

The world’s favourite couple tried to slip away quietly yesterday only to have their cover blown by the loose-lipped Seychelles tourist board who obviously couldn’t contain their excitement. St. James’ Palace is, of course, remaining tight-lipped.

Rumour has it that the royal couple visited the Indian Ocean paradise in 2007, and it was here on their make-it-or-break-it holiday that they vowed to stay together forever, aaww. The main contender for the royal honeymoon hotel is the private island lodging, Desroches. This little drop scone in the sea is ringed by white sands, coral reefs and baby blue sea. There are only and handful of luxury beach villas hidden amidst verdant greenery, but the royal couple are bound to have bagged the Presidential Villa. Tastefully decorated in dark woods and soothing vanilla tones, featuring a four-poster bed, large dining and entertainment area, and  – honeymoon heaven! – an outdoor bathing area with monsoon shower. The villa also comes equipped with its own butler, chef and private swimming pool.

The Duchess of Cambridge was spotted buying some swimwear from high-street store, Goldenpoint, and is said to have opted for a black and white bikini and this cute pink two-piece. Kate is also said to be packing a selection of evening dresses from the Victoria Beckham Spring/Summer range.

The royal honeymoon is not the only trip coming up for the dynamic duo, Canada is next on the cards, followed by a trip Hollywood to visit Wills’ pal, David Beckham so even if we don’t see them for the next fortnight – and hopefully we won’t – they’ll be plenty of opportunity to spot the happy couple this summer.

Kate’s Royal Wedding Eve at the Goring Hotel

Royal wedding fever is taking over the country and what we want is details, details, details! So while we’re still waiting to hear where the royal honeymoon might be – locations from Scilly to Chile are currently being bandied about – here’s a few facts about the London hotel where Kate will spend her last night as Miss Middleton.

The night before the wedding is a special time for any bride and, like many modern brides, princess-to-be Kate, will pass her last night as a single lady with her parents and sister. Keen to avoid too much pomp and pageantry, Kate has opted to avoid Clarence House and instead will be checking into the elegant Edwardian-era Goring Hotel. Kate is extremely family orientated and so is her hotel of choice, having been run by the same family since its opening in 1910.

William and Kate couldn’t have picked a hotel with a richer regal history. Previous royal visitors include Queen Mary, consort of George V, and her daughter-in-law, the Queen Mother, both of whom loved to take afternoon tea in the hotel’s subtle but sumptuous surroundings. The King and Queen and their young children are also known to have celebrated the end of the Second World War here over a hearty sausage and scrambled egg breakfast, while Queen Elizabeth took advantage of the Goring’s superior pastry chefs to bake Prince Charles’ christening cake.

r58_mostsplendid_s_bed1_406x460.jpgThe Goring marked its 100th birthday in 2010 and the interiors have been refreshed by some of the country’s finest designers. There are seventy-one individually designed, classically English rooms and suites – many of which overlook the Goring’s private gardens, some enjoying a private terrace. Suites and rooms are charmingly decorated in the epitome of English style, from country house and classic British, to contemporary cool Britannia.

The Royal Wedding party will be staying in the fifth floor, five-bedroom Royal apartments which have recently been redecorated in splendid style. Apparently the update was commissioned about two years ago with the finishing touches falling in to place just in time for the noble nuptials. There are no shots of the new suites yet but based on the photograph of the hotel’s Most Splendid Silk Room, the suite is bound to capture the best of English eccentricity and elegance.

A precise plan for the big day has been issued by St.James’s Palace; Prince William and, his brother and best man, Prince Harry will leave Clarence House at 10.10am and arrive at the Abbey five minutes later, followed by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh will depart from Buckingham Palace and arrive at the West door of Westminster Abbey at 10.45am. Like most brides, Kate will, of course, be the last to arrive, having been scheduled exactly nine minutes to leave the Goring and arrive at the Abbey for the 11.00am marriage service.

Prince William’s perfect proposal

With the excitement of a Royal wedding next year, any
romantics like myself will delight in the details so I set out to learn a little bit more about the dreamy destination
where Prince William made the perfect romantic proposal to Kate Middleton.

The magical moment is said to have taken place at Cheli and Peacock’s Lewa Safari Camp on the Lewa Conservancy in Kenya.
The reserve is made up of a vast sixty-five thousand acre conservation area which
sits in the shadow of the snow-covered Mount Kenya with views over the wild Northern
Frontier district. Prince William knows the area well – the Lewa Downs are
owned by the family of his friend, Jecca Craig. The Royal family has long loved
to holiday in Kenya and the young price even spent a few months of his gap year
working (and learning Swahili) in Lewa Downs with the Craig family.

Mount Kenya

The romance factor at the complex is very high
indeed. The little luxury resort, which lodges just twenty-six guests, comes in
the shape of twelve luxury open-air “tents” arranged in the manner of a classic
safari camp. Each little jungle bungalow comes with a thatched roof, stone
veranda and full en suite bathroom. In the middle of the camp there is also a country-house
style lounge and alfresco dining area. During the day, guests can take a dip in
the pool and by night, lounge by a roaring log fire. The sunsets over the
savannah, real log fires and a Disney-like animal kingdom on your doorstep would
be enough to make any girl’s heart beat a little bit faster!

As well as romance, fun should also be a big part of any
couple’s life and Prince William had that covered too. Lewa’s guests are in the
heart of the African action and are almost guaranteed to see some, if not all,
of the Big Five. Typical days in the safari camp include 4X4 Jeep Safaris, horse and camel trekking, lion tracking and taking sundowners by the pool
whilst catching glimpses of the black rhinos, elephants, and zebras that come
to drink in the nearby lake.

The element of surprise is the best bit about popping the
question, and the romantic royal prince is said to have taken his new fiancé, Kate Middleton, suitably
by surprise. The resort has its own private airstrip and the pilot prince is
thought to have borrowed a helicopter (as you do) and whisked his lovely bride-to-be
to a nearby lake on the slopes of Mount Kenya. At more than 12,500 feet above
sea-level, he proposed, against the perfect panorama of the Rift Valley.

Well done Wills, we have always loved you but now that
you have shown you’re a true Byronic Man we love you a little bit more.

If you have had a perfect proposal let the Passport readers know all about it in the comments section!
