National Treasure at the Barbados Treasure Beach – Part One

I know a lot of people love winter, but I’m not one of them.
I’ll give you that it does have a great range of rib-sticking stodgy
food, and it’s grand that you can drink with impunity a whole host of hot
beverages all of which are simmering with alcohol or topped with cream and
marshmallows. Bonus snow days off work are also good, as is the opportunity to
layer your clothes and accessorize with fun stuff like mittens and leg warmers.
I though, would be willing to give up all these wintry delights to live in a
land of perpetual summer. So imagine my joy when I got the opportunity to escape
the chill for a few days to visit beautiful bountiful Barbados.

The perfect Payne’s Bay, Barbados.

I arrived last night, peeled off my nineteen layers of
clothes and joined the jet set on the island’s glorious West Coast. The
Treasure Beach Hotel
on Payne’s Bay had been recommended as one of Barbados’ favourite
celebrity hideaways and apparently national treasure, Dame Judi Dench is one of the many admirers of its intimate beachfront setting.

The Treasure Beach has just thirty-five accommodations all
of which are suites. I had been treated to one of the best rooms in the house -
some gorgeous young European honeymooners had bolted themselves into the number
one spot so I was to be indulged in the alternative Hummingbird Suite. It was stunning,
in fact as soon as my escort was out of earshot I actually squealed and jumped
in the air a little bit! The bedroom area was spacious and luxuriously
furnished with a tres romantic
vaulted ceiling, fresh orchids, and enough wardrobe space to keep Mariah Carey
happy. The living room area was equipped with a sofa, a gigantic plasma TV, and
a mini-kitchen and dining area. And leading off of this was a quite spectacular
rooftop terrace with plunge pool. This was enough to make me a little bit dizzy
but the huge spa bathroom stuffed with fluffy white towels and Molton Brown
goodies sent me into raptures.

Unfortunately though, jetlag was having its wicked way with
me so it was downstairs for a quick, although truly delicious dinner (amuse
bouche, fois gras and melt-in-the-mouth chicken) in the hotel’s poolside restaurant, Al Fresco, and then off to sleep in my super-king size bed … but not before I had sat on my
private terrace for five minutes and blissed out on the sound of the waves. Ahh
sweet dreams.

Today promises to be action packed. I’m only here for a
couple of days so I’m going to scour the most famous celebrity beach in the
world for your reading pleasure. I’ll be back soon with part two.

Six Celebrity Christmas Getaways

Mere mortals, like myself, will no doubt be trundling their way through the snow to join loved ones for a Christmas celebration that involves turkey, TV, Terry’s Chocolate Oranges and too much washing-up. But the rich and famous have the chance to get away from it all –  here’s a sneaky peak at a handful of luxury hotels where they prefer to hideaway for the holidays.

Barbados

A calypso Christmas in Barbados is a favourite with
celebrities looking to escape the cold over Christmas. Come December, the
laid-back island is home to the über-rich, über-famous and über-cool and its
beaches, bars and restaurants are positively packed with A-list lovelies.

Who goes there: Tiger
Woods, Hugh Grant, The Rooneys, Robert de Niro, Kate Middleton, Jude
Law. Rihanna is from Barbados and bllionaires Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates also own homes on the island.

Where do they stay:
At Barbados’ most extravagant retreat, The Sandy Lane, where X-Factor mogul
Simon Cowell is reputed to take his mum every year for a swanky Christmas
dinner.

Aspen

Otherwise known as Hollywood On Ice, Aspen, Colorado is one of
America’s permier ski destinations and a favourite for the “Holidays”. Mariah Carey
apparently slips into a bikini and rolls around in the snow and Goldie Hawn
loves nothing better than partaking in a bit of jewellery shopping with
daughter Kate Hudson.

Who goes there: Mariah
Carey, Jack Nicholson, Kevin Costner, Paris Hilton, Will Smith, Sarah Jessica
Parker
, Owen Wilson.

Where do they stay:
The Little Nell or the St.Regis where every festive guest is treated to their
own in-room Christmas tree or menorah.

Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith are Aspen regulars.

Hawaii

Not since the heady days of Elvis’ hip-swinging have the
islands of Hawaii been quite so hot. The beautiful Pacific islands have come
back into fashion again, thanks in no small part to the fact that Barack Obama
spent his formative years there and returns regularly for a bit of tropical sun
and surf.

Who goes there: Paris
Hilton, The Obamas, Britney Spears, Kelly Osborne, Cameron Diaz, Donald Trump.

Where do they stay:
The Four Seasons Hualalai for a romantic break on the Big Island or the Kahala
Resort in Waikiki for a bit of old school glamour.

The Maldives

It’s no surprise that celebrity couples love the Maldives.
These dreamy islands just ooze romance and their remote location in the middle
of the Indian Ocean also gives celebrity guests the kind of privacy that they
rarely manage to enjoy.

Who goes there: Sir
Paul McCartney, Fergie, Beyonce, Kate Moss, Roger Federer, Tom Cruise and Katie
Holmes have all been spotted celebrating Christmas in the island nation. This
year also saw Katie Perry and Russell Brand enjoying themselves on an
island-hopping honeymoon. And it has been reported recently that the Beckhams have
invited Gordon Ramsey and wife Tana to join them for the festive season.

The One and Only Reethi Rah Resort

Where do they stay: If
you can’t carve your turkey on your own private yacht like Jay-Z and Beyonce
then check in to this year’s Indian Ocean hotspot, The One and Only Reethi
Rah.

St. Moritz

Big on style and glamour, St. Moritz has long been the
high-end ski destination of choice for jet-setters and European royalty. Festivities
in the sophisticated resort includes Christmas shopping in Chopard, Cavalli,
and Chanel, world-class skiing, Christmas day caviar and oyster buffets and
Boxing Day champagne and chocolates.

Who goes there: The
Clintons, Eva Longoria Parker, Boris Becker, Claudia Schiffer, George Clooney.

Xmas in Badrutt's Palace Hotel[5].jpg

Where do they stay:
The spectacular Badrutt’s Palace has been a favourite of celebrities and
royalty since its opening in 1896.

Miami Beach

The city of Miami Beach is America’s most popular celebrity
playground. The stars hang out in the South Beach area where they can beach and
bar hop all day (and night) long. With its legendary Christmas and New Year
celebrations, every winter, Miami sees an influx of models, moguls and millionaires
enjoying a haute holiday.

Who goes there:
Shakira, Justin Timberlake, P-Diddy, Lindsay Lohan, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer
Hudson, Owen Wilson, Lady Gaga.

Where do they stay:
Those from the fashion and entertainment world flock to The Setai and the legendary
Fontainbleau Hotel is said to host the best New Year party in town – Lady Gaga helped Diddy to bring in 2010 by giving an impromptu performance at the hotel’s pool party.
