This week marks 60 years since Marilyn Monroe and baseball legend Joe DiMaggio married.
Joe and Marilyn first met in March 1952 when a friend arranged for them to meet on a dinner date. It wasn’t until 1953 that they began dating.
Marilyn and Joe were married in a civil ceremony at San Francisco City Hall on January 14, 1954 and spent their wedding night at the Clifton Motel in Paso Robles, California and later honeymooned in Japan and Korea.
For her big day, Marylin wore a chocolate-brown broadcloth suit with a white ermine Peter Pan collar. Her wedding bouquet was made up of three white orchids.
The groom wore a dark blue suit and the same blue polka-dot tie he wore on his first date with the actress.
Their married was short-lived, the couple were divorced in October 1954, just 274 days after they were married.
In February 1961 they became good friends again and when the 36-year-old actress died on August 5, 1962, Joe arranged the funeral. For the next two decades, until his own death in 1999, he sent roses several times a week to her grave in Los Angeles.
