The Seychelles, a Mediterranean cruise or the Swiss Alps… The royals know how to honeymoon and always choose to celebrate their first weeks as newlyweds in stunning and unbeatable settings.
See where royals such as Kate Middleton, Princess Madeleine or Queen Maxima celebrated their new status.
Princess Madeleine of Sweden
Princess Madeleine of Sweden and Chris O’Neill chose to honeymoon in the idyllic Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. The groom kept the destination a secret from his royal bride until the very last minute.
Days into the holiday of a lifetime Madeleine shared a breathtaking imagine of her in the Seychelles. In the stunning shot the newlywed is seen standing on the beach in a summer dress and sun hat, looking out across the ocean as the water laps around her feet.
The couple reportedly stayed in a 500 square-metre private villa with a price tag of almost £5,000 per night.
Prince William and Kate
William and Kate also jetted off on a honeymoon fit for a king in the Seychelles.
Will and Kate stayed at North Island, a set of swank beachside villas that offer scuba diving, sea kayaking, snorkelling, fly fishing and a slew of boating activities.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana
Prince Charles and Diana headed to Balmoral Estate following their 1981 wedding. From there, the royal couple departed for Gibraltar to board the royal yacht Britannia, on which they cruised for two weeks, visiting Algeria, Tunisia, Sicily, the Greek islands and Egypt.
Prince Frederik and Princess Mary
The royal couple tanned and relaxed during their three-week honeymoon in Tanzania where they are believed to have tackled Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro.
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip honeymooned all over the place. First they travelled to Broadlands (see picture below), the Mountbattens’ country home before heading to Birkhall, Queen Elizabeth’s childhood home.
They later left the country and headed down to the sunny Mediterranean island of Malta for several days, before beginning their first official state visit to Uganda.
Prince Charles and Camilla
Following their low-key 2005 nuptials, Prince Charles and Camilla sailed around the Greek Islands on one of billionaire Spiros Latsis’ yachts.
Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly of Monaco
Yachts are a royal theme. Aristotle Onassis actually gave this royal couple the 147-foot Deo Juvante II, which they used for their honeymoon to sail around the Mediterranean with stops in Villegranche, Spain, and Corsica. Grace apparently suffered from mal de mer for much of the cruise.
King Willem-Alexander and Maxima
Willem-Alexander and his new wife Maxima spent their honeymoon in the Swiss Alps, where they were pictured skiing. The two left Amsterdam soon after their wedding celebrations but made a brief stopover in London to see Maxima’s parents, who were aunable to attend the nuptials.
Photographers snapped the smiling couple enjoying their first days together as husband and wife on the snow-covered slopes of St Moritz.
Princess Victoria and Daniel
Princess Victoria of Sweden and her husband Daniel spent their first days as husband and wife in the glorious setting of French Polynesia.
Prince Albert and Princess Charlene
The Monaco royals decided to spend the first weeks of married life in Charlene’s native South Africa. But theirs was the least romantic of all. The couple were hit by claims that they were staying in different hotels and they cut short their honeymoon so the prince could take a DNA test to resolve a multi-million pound paternity claim.
