Day trip to Suffolk, and catching up with family and friends in Manchester
Hi everyone ! Did you all have a good bank holiday?
I was up in Manchester and it was raining on and off allllllllllllll weekend. No great surprise there!
Anyway, I need to back track slightly to the weekend before this, and rewind to just after I came back from Paris…
Mark and I were both off work…
We decided to jump in the car and head to Bury St Edmund’s which is the very pretty town in Suffolk that we got married in.
It isn’t too far from where we live, and as I am away filming on series 3 of Our Girl soon, we won’t be spending our wedding anniversary together, so this was a lovely way to celebrate it – a little bit early.
I took this picture just before we left for the day, in my new J Brand jeans – I got them in Selfridges a few weeks ago where J Brand have a concession.
Cropped jeans and trousers are bang on trend this season, so I treated myself to this great fitting pair of jeans.
The weather was so warm and bright that day, that I didn’t even need to wear a coat. Hurray!
I teamed my new jeans with a striped vest top I got nearly a year ago from Topshop which I found in the back of my wardrobe. I like the rich earthy coloured stripes, and to compliment with the slight 70’s vibe, I wore these pink lensed aviator style glasses from Urban Outfitters.
You can get them in a variety of tinted lenses – gold, orange, blue, and purple, and I think they really finish an outfit off. Plus I quite like everything being pink when I look through them ha ha! https://www.urbanoutfitters.com – great for festival season or a summer holiday!
We drove to stunning Hengrave Hall, which is where we got married, it was so nice to go back there.
We took lots of pics, played games like croquet on the lawn there (not very well) and soaked up the sunshine, then headed into the town for a nosey about the shops, and enjoyed some scampi and chips sat outside a pub. It was a special day…
The next day Mark took a flight over to LA for some pre-arranged meetings, which gave me the opportunity to head up north and see my friends and family, as it’s not long till I head off for filming now… in fact it’s just days away!
The first night I was back in Manchester I just chilled out at my mum’s house, then the next night my mum, Aunty Debbie, cousin Kate and I went to one of my favourite restaurants, the very cool Menagerie! http://menagerierestaurant.co.uk/.
We wanted to try their new Summer menu, so ordered a variety of small plates to share.
I enjoyed a rose and lychee martini and boy was it good.
For our nibbles we had sea salted Padron peppers duck rolls, lots of different sushi, a beautifully presented Tuna tempura salad which tasted as good as it looked, truffle macaroni and cheese which was very rich and about a zillion calories (but who cares!)
There was a fab female acrobat performing on a hoop above some of the dining tables, which was great to watch, and they have a mix of DJ’s , live music and dance performers on throughout the week.
It was my mum and Debbie’s first time to Menagerie and they both loved it, and have been been texting me asking me when can we all go back!
I kept my look very casual that evening, and wore my new stripey jumper from Whistles (I seem to have a thing about stripes right now!) This jumper is perfect for the ‘in between’ weather seasons, you can wear it with a pair of jeans (I teamed it with my ripped Zara jeans and my new white Chanel Espadrilles) http://www.whistles.com/
My cousin Kate and I love the photo opportunity corner of the restaurant – which is just to the left of the entrance as you come in. There is a bath with balls and balloons in it, a huge picture frame you can pose inside or stand on, a big bag of props for picture taking and some very cool light up Neon signs. Great idea!
The following day I went back into the city centre to meet up with my great friend Laura who I have been friends with for years, since we met on Coronation Street nine years ago (back then she worked as a publicist on the show, and now has her own media company in Manchester).
She suggested we go to Grand Pacific which has just opened at the top of King Street in Spring Gardens – http://grandpacific.uk.com/
Before it opened a few weeks ago, Grand Pacific’s home used to be at the back of Australasia which is about 10 mins walk from there just off Deansgate, and, where I had mistakenly gone to meet her. Woops! Didn’t take me long to walk up to the right place though, and as soon as you walk in in, it certainly has the wow factor.
It’s an elegantly designed restaurant and bar, with a wooden sweeping staircase, huge ceilings, marble fireplaces.
I had a goats cheese and pineapple salad for starter and this lovely looking (and equally as good tasting) sushi bowl for main course.
We haven’t seen each other for a while, so we had so much to catch up on, and despite the dessert menu being very tempting we settled for coffees afterwards instead (we are both trying to be good!)
We realised that it was three years this week that I left Coronation Street. So much has happened since I said goodbye to Weatherfield! Time really does fly.
For my lunch I kept things really casual and wore a white Zara blouse with tie sleeves, Zara jeans, my oversized grey boyfriend coat from Zara (the one I got from Duty Free a few months ago) and my pink tinted aviators that I mentioned before.
After my catch up with Laurs, I saw my dad and some more of my family in Irlam, and then drove back to Essex the following day.
A lovely few days spent around some lovely people.
My new beauty must haves this week are as follows…
Benefit ‘ World Famous Neutrals’ nude eyes palette.
The eye shadows are really complimentary to my skin tone, for either day or night, and the powders blend very easily. I have always loved the kooky and girly packaging that Benefit does so well with their products, and this palette is very typical of that. Great for a gift too! https://www.benefitcosmetics.com
Philosophy Ultimate Miracle Night Worker cream.
This is a very rich night cream – which has two sections to it – the cream (which contains Retinol) and a serum which is inside tiny pearls, you add them to the cream to ‘activate it’. The pearls melt after a few minutes into the cream and you then apply to your skin.
I wasn’t sure if this would be a bit messy to do, but it was fine and after 4 or 5 days the skin on my face and neck does feel firmer and smoother. http://www.philosophyskincare.co.uk/
Accessorize Silver stack rings.
I am also loving my silver plated girly rings from Accessorize or as I like to call them – my new finger candy! These delicate and pretty rings are all over the high street at the moment, but these ones are my favourite, and as they are silver plated they won’t really tarnish if they get wet. Great for adding detail to a look, especially for festival or wedding season. http://uk.accessorize.com/uk/jewellery
Neom – Nourish Breathe and Smile Hand Balm.
This rich hand cream is made with shea and cocoa butter to keep your hands ultra soft. I love how it smells too – it’s scented with grapefruit, lemon and rosemary.
Has everyone been keeping an eye on the Coachella fashion?
My favourite looks from the first weekend of this very cool festival are Jourdan Dunn, she looks super cool and effortlessly stylish in this unusual Aztec inspired body top and denim cut offs. She’s wearing hardly any makeup either by the looks of it and her natural beauty is glowing. Gorgeous!
Selena Gomez’s outfit is totally different from Jordan’s but this look stood out to me. I love the vintage style and the cornflower blue colour of the dress.
The only thing I may have done differently, would have been wearing the neckerchief either tied round the top of my arm or in my hair but I still think she looks very chic and stylish.
I’m finishing this blog just as I am about to start back on my Army Boot Camp refresher training. Will fill you in on everything next week! Wish me luck!
Until next week.
All my love,
