My friend’s wedding in Oman…

Hi everyone!

So, first of all – SORRY!

I have been away for a good week, hence why I haven’t been able to sit down in front of my laptop and write my latest blog for you. But I am now back in Blighty, and can tell you all about my recent travels.

First of all – I must start the blog with some info on this outfit:

michelle1

I was pictured in it just before I went away and had loads of tweets asking me where the jeans were from!

My jeans with the fraying on the bottom of the legs are from Zara, and the slogan t shirt is also Zara (both new season) and the biker jacket I am wearing here is from Topshop.

OK , so…. my trip to Oman.

I went over because one of my best-est friends Hayley was getting married to Dan. I have known Hayley since our school days and we were best friends within a fab group of girls in Irlam in Salford. We are still as close as we were then which is lovely!

michelle2

Hayley has lived over in the Middle East for years – having relocated there to teach primary school children in Muscat.

It was hot hot hot! About 32 degrees around midday…

michelle3

We stayed in a beautiful hotel called the Al Hosn Hotel Shangri La Al Husn Resort, which is in Muscat, the stunning complex is right on the beach, there are actually three hotels within one big sprawling complex, I think there were 24 restaurants in total so I was totally in my element trying out different food from all over the world.

michelle4

There was a lazy river, and a lovely looking beauty and wellness spa, but I didn’t have time to even set foot in there, because Hayley had planned something every day for the group to do, which was so organised of her and exciting for all her wedding party.

On the first night we arrived there was a big get together at Hayley and Dan’s , so that both the bride and grooms friends and family from Manchester and London got to know each other more and begin the celebrations!

We enjoyed jello shots and Prosecco round the pool, and there was a DJ playing some great old school R + B to get us all dancing.

The next day Hayley had organised a boat party – where we had not one, but two traditional Oman style wooden boats.

michelle5

We sailed for about an hour or so to a pretty cove, anchored up, swam in the sea and messed around on jet skis. It was such a fab day, lots of giggles and yes, a few drinks too.

Day three was a sunbathing day on the beach for the girls, and for the boys they went off quad biking in the dunes.

And after our chill out day enjoying the rays and eating lots of nice food, it was the very special day that we had all travelled so far for – Hayley and Dan’s wedding.

michelle6

It was just perfect.

michelle7

They got married on the beach front just as the sun started to set, we were all given these pretty white parasols to shield our eyes from the sun, I do love a prop ha ha and I didn’t put mine down all day!

I was one of the privileged few who had already had a sneak preview of Hayley in her wedding dress because she had entrusted me to go to the fitting with her (by the way it wasn’t technically a dress, it was actually a corset and a skirt which was specially made for her) and she got it from Fairytale Brides in Whitefield http://fairytalebridesltd.co.uk/

michelle9

She looked absolutely stunning. I also loved her sun kissed beachy waved hair and natural makeup.

Dan and the male wedding party all wore smart beige suits with gold ties to compliment the sunset wedding.

michelle10

The blush pink chiffon one shoulder bridesmaid dresses were made in Oman by a talented dress maker, don’t the bridesmaids look lovely?

michelle11

The lady on the left is Becky and she’s wearing a gorgeous mint green dress (which by the way Becky I will be borrowing off you V soon!) from ASOS.

michelle12

I wore this girly lemon yellow dress from Rare, which I have had for a few years now, I wore it because it suited the style of the wedding, is quite beachy and really comfortable and cool to wear on a hot sunny day.

michelle13

I teamed it with some rose gold strappy sandal style shoes from Office.

Because the dress had all the lace/crochet detail I thought it best to keep my accessories minimal so I wore my watch and some simple Arabic style earrings.

And as it was sooooo sunny I wore pink tinted mirrored sunglasses from Jess, my sister in law’s sunglasses collection – @withlove_jess.

michelle14

So for my hair, bit of an admission – I didn’t wash my hair for the wedding!

I had been swimming in the sea the day before and it was all wavy and thick from the salt water and drying in the sunshine, the salt water gives my hair great body, so I figured I might as well leave it as is, so I added some Bumble and Bumble Sea Salt spray to it for added oomph.

I don’t really like wearing a lot of make-up on my face in the sunshine as it tends to make my face shiny so I wore The Mattifying Shine Control Perfecting Primer from Estee Lauder which gives your skin a matte silky smooth surface to put your make-up on.

Then over the top of this primer I used my favourite tinted moisturiser from Laura Mercier with a SPF of 30 to protect my face from the sun, http://www.lauramercier.com/

michelle16

And a dash of Origins ‘Pinch Your Cheeks’ Raspberry Cheek Stain http://www.origins.co.uk – this is great too because it’s water resistant so it withstands swimming and sweat…

I also used my matte ‘Hoola’ bronzer from Benefit to lightly contour my cheekbones for a bit of definition, and on my lips I wore this lipliner by Lord + Berry https://www.lordandberry.com

michelle17

And this fantastic Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour in ‘Embrace’ by Revlon finished off the look. http://www.revlon.co.uk/

My holiday must haves:

OK so aside from after sun, you need decent day and night moisturisers for flying and exposing your skin to the sun.

michelle19

I tried using this Philosophy ‘Take A Deep Breath’ Oil Free Oxygenating cream – before and during the flights. It’s non greasy and does make your face skin feel a little tight when you put it on, once it had absorbed my skin looked fresh and healthy, certainly a good one for a lady who travels a lot. www.philosophy.co.uk

At night I used my fave Origins Dr Weil Mega Bright SPF and their Dark Spot Correcting Night Mask. It’s rich in Vitamin C and various hydrators that help reverse skin tone damage. www.origins.co.uk

michelle20

Throughout my time in Oman I made sure I wore a high sun factor every day because I am more aware about looking after my skin. After all, I’m nearly 30 now (couple of months to go!).

I used to wear oil when I was younger thinking it wouldn’t damage my skin but now I know it will and it does, so now I wear decent branded high factor products whenever I’m in the sunshine, even in the UK.

michelle21

Mark and I picked up some Sun Bum products before we set off. It smells great and glides on your skin well without being greasy. See https://www.trustthebum.com/ for more info about this great product line.

So, in order to keep my holiday glow up I am using a decent body moisturiser day and night – this Origins Ginger Souffle smells good enough to eat (managed to avoid doing that though!). And leaves my skin very smooth and moisturised.

michelle22

Another product I took in my bag with me for the trip was this Kiehls Cactus Flower Mist.

michelle23

I used it after I put my make-up on, before I went out of an evening and during my flights. It purifies and hydrates your skin and refreshes it with every spray. It basically kept my skin moisturised and fresh and was a godsend in the heat!

Clarins also do a fantastic makeup setter which I used on the day of the wedding. It’s called ‘Fix Makeup’, this is a light mist (smells very fresh) enriched with aloe vera and it instantly moisturises and soothes the skin.

For style – top of the list are these funky flip flops from Zara with the sheepskin over the toe, I love them! I don’t think you can get them in store anymore but might be able to find them online?

I wore them the whole time I travelled, there and back, and will be taking them with me whenever I go away now.

It felt as though I was wearing slippers as I wandered around the airport. They are so comfy and very stylish too.

michelle25

I made sure I packed my favourite holiday dress, which is my turquoise and lemon BCBG maxi dress. I got this a good while ago.

michelle26

It’s my favourite because its so girly and unusual, I always get nice comments about it, I can wear it to dinner, to a pool party, out exploring or off to a bar. I also love it because it is a maxi dress, doesn’t really need ironing, and I can wear it with flip flops – a winner all round!

This was another good holiday piece – a lovely lace kaftan with gold nudes and turquoise beading around the collar and down the neckline. I liked it because it had a slighty Arabic feel to it, and wore it over a bikini when we went on the big boat party. The kaftan is from www.theboutiqueessex.co.uk

So that’s the trip! The day after the wedding Mark and I had to say our goodbyes to the very happy couple and set off on our journey home as I had work booked in the following day.

Most of the guests left that day with a few leaving on the Monday and getting that bit more sunshine, and Hayley and Dan set off on their honeymoon to tropical Zanzibar.

Congratulations to you both, and thank you so much for inviting us over to help celebrate your very memorable day.

Until next week.

Lots of love,

Michelle xxx
