My fantastic skiing holiday to Val Thorens

Myself, Mark and a group of our friends went to Val Thorens in the stunningly beautiful and picturesque French Alps for a long weekend of skiing.

Val Thorens has the largest ski area in the world with over 600 km of runs. There is loads to do there – with great snow sports on offer, for people who are total beginners and for more experienced snow lovers.

Mark and I organised the trip with Crystal Ski Holidays www.crystalski.co.uk, and stayed in a cosy and traditional six bedroom chalet with our friends: Rachel , Phil, Helen, Liz, Kelvin, Gubby and Freddie.

We were fortunate to have our own chef who made delicious home-cooked breakfasts, and all our evening meals.

Some of our treats included chocolate chip cookies on arrival, and one day after a full day skiing we were greeted with freshly baked lemon drizzle cakes.

All of us were at different levels with our skiing ability – my Manchester based pals had got some tuition in at the Chill Factor, and remember Mark and I had our lessons at The Snow Centre?

Well they certainly paid off! I was so much more confident this time around, compared to last year where I was falling all over the place.

The majority of our skiing was done on the green and blue runs, but I decided to get brave and tackle a red run which, I’m not going to lie, was very scary, and some of the girls in the group (naming no names to spare any embarrassment!) ended up going down on their bums – which was HILARIOUS, I couldn’t stop laughing!

We also tried tobogganing one evening – on a sledge from the top to the bottom of a not so steep mountain.

We raced each other which was so much fun, and at the end we all feasted on hot chocolates, mulled wine (well, why not?) and some tasty cheese and salami. Perfect!

After our tobogganing competition we were heading back to our chalet and we spotted a huge firework display (OK , it was hard to miss!). It was such a special ‘ wow factor’ moment against the backdrop of this beautiful resort.

I know I am a self confessed beach bunny, I love summer holidays, and lounging around on a sunny beach, but we all agreed heartily that this was one of the best holidays we have ever been on.

I am a total snow convert now, and we are definitely going to go away skiing with the gang again next year.

Aside from the skiing and food, we enjoyed a wine tasting evening (this could have gone horribly wrong but we were all very refined, pahahaha!) and experienced plenty of bar hopping, dancing, singing and fun had by all.

In this picture I am wearing my snuggly new pyjamas from Debenhams. I think they were about £25 and perfect for lounging around in.

However, because we had early starts of 7am, we were all shattered by 10pm and tucked up in bed by 11pm, which is pretty early really for me!

Mark and I got all our very cool ski gear from the Dare 2 Be brand – they specialise in outdoor (cycling, running) and – ski and mountain clothing – which is both stylish and very warm !

www.dare2be.com is the website address.

Group pic!!!!

Dare 2 Be kitted us out with our mid and bottom layers, helmets and ski jackets.

I loved my red jacket,  and most of the other girls and guys on our group got some pieces from Dare 2 Be too, because they were so impressed with our clothing.

Our girls in the group all wore slightly different coloured jackets so that we could all see each other clearly on the slopes. I think we all looked pretty smart don’t you?

My essential kit for skiing (aside from the obvious)

Ski goggles – these are great if you are going at the fast pace, or if there is a ‘white out ‘ which means it’s snowing, or if you are at the top of a mountain and it is cloudy so difficult to see.

Glasses – I wore my Dolce and Gabanna sunglasses loads – you need them because it is so bright, not just for a fashion accessory or to hide tired eyes!

Sturdy hair bobble – because your hair blows about everywhere, and it also gets really dry because of the weather so a big headband is pretty useful too to keep your hair neatly off your face.

Neck warmer – to protect your mouth, neck and face against the cold.

Thick pair of ski gloves – because your hands are freezing! Mine were from Dare2Be.

Obviously on the slopes it’s not necessary to wear any make-up, so I took very little make-up with me on the trip – why bother!

What I did use was this ‘coverage cream’ which I wore over my moisturiser, and it had SPF 50 in it which is very important with the sun and altitude. It glided on my skin, gave it really even coverage – I was very impressed with this product and will be using it back home too.

I also wore a high sun factor on my lips because they can get very dry and are prone to sun damage too – so I used this piz buin SPF 30 lip balm which I kept re applying through the day.

Underneath the coverage cream I wore one of my favourite all time moisturisers:

The Origins Dr Weil Mega Bright moisturiser (which also has an SPF of 30) and the Origins skin illuminating lotion is a must-have too.

I used lots of hand cream too. Especially this zesty rich  grapefruit and lemon cream by Neom https://www.neomorganics.com/nourish-breath-energise-hand-balm.html

This week’s makeup recommendations

Contour palettes – the blusher, highlighter and bronzer. The packaging is cute and I think the colours will suit my skin so I am trying it out this week.

I am also loving this NYX highlighting contour kit and their cheeks kit is well worth considering too,  if you want to scale down the various bits and pieces in your make-up bag, the colours work well with a olive or medium skin tone. The countour kit has shades that I use on my eyes too. A fab all rounder!

Must dash, I’m off to a day of meetings in London and need to get ready. Will let you know all about the Brit Awards and Saturday Night Takeaway in the next blog.

Untill next week.

All my love,
Michelle xxx
