Birthday celebrations at Malmaison Manchester, weddings and new beauty recommendations
Roisin’s big 30th birthday bash
So we are already one month into 2017 – so far, so good!
I will start this week’s blog by telling you about my recent girls’ night out in Manchester, to celebrate another of my old school friends 30th… The whole group will turn 30 this year, so its 12 months of celebrations. Hurray!
I’m starting to think of bulk buying 30th birthday cards and wrapping paper seeing as there are so many of my loved ones who are turning the big 3-0! We wanted have a fun and relaxed dinner somewhere, and Chez Mal in the Malmaison hotel (it’s opposite Piccadilly train station) had been recommended to me by a friend to try.
Our table !
The food was hearty and delicious, service was slick, cocktails were fab and we loved all the cute props for our pictures.
While I have stayed at the Mal in Manchester a few times over the years, I never thought of going there for meal before, I guess because it is primarily a hotel. The food in Chez Mal is hearty, lots of steaks and comfort food. You can have private dining, book a breakfast business meeting, or it’s a great place to have a romantic Valentines meal.

I will be back soon for sure, apparently they also do a great afternoon tea so will try this out. After we left the Mal we went to our fave nightspot in Manchester – yes no surprises on this one – Menagerie! Have any of you been yet? We arrived quite late and it was so busy, great atmosphere and these honey tequilas went down very nicely.
Me and the birthday girl!
I don’t know if you can see in the pictures here all that well, but I was wearing contact lenses in my eyes that night – called ‘Mesmereyez’ the colour was ‘pearl grey’ and they subtly change your look . You must follow the instructions on putting them in correctly and make sure you take them out at the end of the night. (https://www.colouryoureyes.com/collections/mesmereyez-coloured-contact-lenses/products/pearl-grey). I love experimenting with colours and styles so why not!
So aside from my big night out, I had the pleasure of attending the ‘final fitting’ for Hayley’s wedding dress.
Hayley is another of my old school friends who is over for a quick stay in the UK (she lives in Oman) to pick up her wedding dress for her big day! I was really touched she asked me to be there for her fitting, and WOW…. she looked SO beautiful.
Obviously I’m not going to put a picture of her in her dress on here ha! She would go crazy! I spied these pearl and silver sandal type creations in the wedding dress shop by the way – how pretty?
Perfect for a beach wedding or exotic honeymoon
We also headed up to Whitefield which is just past Prestwich in Greater Manchester – its best known for Slatterys – a very famous cake shop and onsite bakery.
Hayley needed ideas for cakes, and they have incredible examples of their work on display.
There is a restaurant upstairs so we enjoyed some food and tea, and also bought some chocolates in the shop (has to be done!)
I haven’t seen Hayley since Mark and I surprised her by flying out to Oman last year. Despite the distance in miles, we are in touch all the time and always pick up where we left off. I am looking forward to her wedding so much, and seeing Daniel’s (her fiancé) face when she walks down the aisle.
Products of the week
Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer
I add this to my foundation, only a drop or two, to give me nice glow or I use it as a liquid highlighter on my cheeks, shoulders and décolletage to illuminate my skin.
There’s 15 different colours – including a really shimmery liquid rose pink blusher. A little goes a long way with this product, but it lasts in your makeup bag for ages. I think I have had mine for around a year and it’s still half full (http://www.armanibeauty.co.uk).
I am really impressed with this Urban Decay Naked Concealer. It’s quite thick but very silky in consistency, so when you put it on it lasts all night and gives flawless coverage.
I have used it during the day too to just take away under eye shadows, and worn no other make up besides some and you can’t see that I am wearing any makeup at all really, so it’s good for the natural look (http://www.urbandecay.co.uk/en_GB/face/concealer/naked-skin/UD503.html).
I also love the Urban Decay Naked Ultra Nourishing Lip Gloss (http://www.urbandecay.co.uk/en_GB/tash-oakley—steal-her-summer-look/naked/415.html). The cheekily named ‘Walk Of Shame’ is my favourite colour – a perfect shiny nude gloss.
Speaking of dark shadows under your eyes, this correcting serum is well worth a purchase. The ‘Neutralizing Correcting Cream’ calms any redness and fades dark circles.
(https://www.itcosmetics.com/bye-bye-redness) it’s around £25 and you can buy it online or on QVC.
I must mention this facial sonic cleanser. I first started using this on and off about a year ago and it comes away with me in my wash bag when I film away (http://www.clarisonic.co.uk/shop-our-products/clarisonic-mia-2/CL12.html). I use it around twice a week to gently remove dead skin and clean your pores. It leaves my face and neck feeling fresh, tight and silky smooth. This is not a cheap piece of kit they start at £125 – maybe one for a birthday present (or a mother’s day gift ?)
Hope you all have a great week, I am off to the gym to start training again… it’s been a while!
Until next week
All my love
