My trip to LA, microblading and my new beauty must haves…
So, if you read my last blog, you will know that I was about to set off for Los Angeles.
I shall pick up from here….
The reason for the trip was to shoot my next collection for Lipsy which is (gulp)….. Spring/Summer 17!
We wanted to shoot it over in LA because it’s so scenic, and suits the collection really well, plus the weather is usually very nice, which always helps when shooting a Summer collection in mid November…
I have never shot in LA with Lipsy before – previous shoots abroad have been Ibiza, Miami and South Africa, so this was a real treat despite it only being a 4 day trip, but we were lucky to be able to work with Zoey Grossman who is internationally known fashion and portrait photographer based out in America.
She has worked with the likes of Justin Bieber and had work published in Harper’s Bazaar, Nylon, Playboy and many more. She is VERY cool.
When I arrived in LA I actually had a full day off to get used to the time difference.
But, instead of catching some rays by the pool or sleeping – I wanted to go and explore, so I took myself out for a healthy breakfast of coffee and fruit.
I met up with some of the Lipsy girls, and we went to the world famous Beverley Hills Hotel to do some people watching.
We had brunch outside in the garden area which was so pretty. I enjoyed a goats cheese frittata (healthy) and some buttermilk pancakes (not so healthy but sod it!) and they were scrumptious.
We didn’t see any A-Listers during our meal so we went over to Rodeo Drive for some more people watching and window shopping. However it didn’t turn out to be just all window shopping.
We visited GUCCI.
And I treated myself to THESE BEAUTIES!
Gold Gucci shoes. Divine. Serious treat!
After my impulse purchase we visited the Beverly Hills Wiltshire for some drinks.
This is the hotel where some of the classic rom-com film Pretty Woman was shot.
Being a total tourist I had a ‘pretty woman’ cocktail which is slightly cheesy, but hey, who cares!
The black halter crop top and jeans I am wearing are both Lipsy London too.
I also took a picture at the piano where Richard Gere and Julia Roberts’s characters in the firm (sorry I can’t remember their names) had a bit of a kiss. This is the ACTUAL PIANO!!!
The Girl Gang T shirt and jeans I am wearing here are from Lipsy.
My wedges are Gucci (I’m starting to think that these are a bit of a vice of mine)
You can get this T Shirt here – I love it and a few people ask me where it was from…
I had an early night and then the following two days we spent shooting – so we went off to the Hollywood Hills.
We chose to shoot in a private house which was built in the early 1900’s and the family that originally had it built, still live there.
The only way I can describe it is that it is a proper old school Hollywood glamour.
There was a bar in the living room, there weren’t any TV’s. It was so elegant and the views were stunning.
I was looking at the pictures which adorned all the walls of the couple who lived there and when I met the lady who owned it I said she looked like Marilyn Monroe and instead of just saying Thank you – she said: “Thank you……… I knew her actually..!”
Here are some family pictures of the lady of the house.
OMG!!!! Amazing! She actually knew her! MARILYN MONROE!!
We also rented a car to take us round the hills for some of the shots – it was a classic Chevrolet, and reminded me of the cars in the film Grease, I don’t know why but I wasn’t trusted to actually drive it! Here’s me posing at the wheel.
So after the shortest and sweetest of trips to LA I was back in the UK for another shoot. Fortunately my jet lag wasn’t too bad as I slept on the flight….
This one was a magazine shoot, and it had winter woodland themed, and I had wolves to shoot with. Real ones. We used a lot fake fur coats and sparkly dresses and black chunky boots of which I am currently obsessed with:
This patent and lace up pair are River Island
And this smooth matte leather pair are Topshop
I have been using BeautyWorks extensions on a lot on my shoots for added thickness and a bit of length, they are also really easy to curl or straighten.
This Ojon hair thickener (it’s by Origins who make all the skincare I love) is really good at adding oomph. I was using it out in LA and have been using it after washing my hair back in the UK too. It smells really fresh too.
NARS Aqua Gel really illuminates your skin. I put it on before I put on any other make up as a base and it makes any makeup after that glide on evenly and leaves skin with a natural healthy glow.
Also this week I decided to take the plunge and get my eyebrows micro bladed.
So Micro blading is a form of tattooing.
Using a state of the art micro blading tool, tiny precision hair strokes are created by hand, mimicking the natural direction and lengths of your brows. Colour is passed into the channels created by the micro blades in the dermal layer of the skin and this procedure is semi permanent.
The sensation is similar to a little scratch, its not like a full on tattoo which can hurt a lot!
The treatment generally takes around 1 hour and should leave you with highly defined, ultra-realistic looking brows.
I have been trying to grow mine for 2 years but it just wasn’t happening. I think this is due to me over plucking them in my teen years (BAD CHELLE!) so I researched the best people to do this in London and was recommend to try Laura Ciordas – she is a Phi Brows Master in Micro blading and runs an academy in London.
Here is my before and after.
Brows will look slightly darker at first, but the colour will fade 30 to 40 percent which mine did. They didn’t itch and weren’t sore afterwards either.
I am really pleased with the results – Thank you Laura! They look very natural and I don’t have to faff around trying to even them out anymore.
Laura is on Instagram – @laurac_phibrows
If you don’t want to get your brows Micro Bladed, then try HD Brows which was founded by Nilam Patel, there are trained HD Brow specialists all over the country in the art of brow design.
They also have a makeup brand – more info here : https://beautyinhighdefinition.com/
Or you could just invest in some brow makeup – such as Brow Zings by Benefit which is a ‘taming and shaping kit’ at the price of about £24.50 – I use the ‘deep’ colour and this also contains a teeny pair of tweezers for emergency tidy ups…
