Dear Diary… January 12th
This is such a crazy thing to write but it turns out, January 12th is my TENTH ANNIVERSARY of blogging. Isn’t that insane? My old beauty blog, BeautyMecca, is still online here if you ever fancy trawling through the archives and reading my beauty diary from a DECADE ago. Completely insane. Blogging really helped me grow as a writer and I don’t think I’d be half as happy or comfortable writing my books if I hadn’t had a blog to cut my teeth on. Ahh, happier, simpler times. I mean, really, if you’d sat me down ten years ago and said ‘you’ll be writing books full time, living in LA and Donald Trump will be elected president of the USA!’ I’d have slapped the taste out of your mouth but hey, here we are.
On to the week that was…
What I Watched
I adored Jackie. It didn’t occur to me how little I knew about the Kennedys above and beyond what I’d picked up from pop culture until I saw the movie and now I’m obsessed. Natalie Portman is incredible and the costumes are to die for. I’ve been plundering Etsy for Jackie-inspired designs so the next time you see me, please expect it to be complete with Chanel pillbox hat.
Anyone else completely swoon over the red carpet at the Golden Globes this year? My favourite trends were the romantic red and pink gowns and futuristic silver dresses. Happily, kickass Brit and WINNER, Claire Foy, combined both trends with her metallic pink gown and absolutely dreamy hair and make up. I reckon I could have a crack at the beauty look myself but that swoon-worthy chignon twist from Jillian Halouska for SHOW Beauty? Am expecting to see it on every bride between now and next year’s Globes.
Where I Went
My lovely friend Harry Hadfield from Harry Makes it Up let me tag along to a rather fabulous LA party last night, chock full of proper celeb types (Dave Franco! Rumer Wilis! Shay Mitchell! Some people from Rich Kids of Beverly Hills!) even though, in all honesty, most of them went under my radar because I was distracted by a) the beautiful venue that is The Ace Hotel and b) free champs. Priorities. I’ve been a huge YSL Beauty fan ever since I first fell for their Glossy Stains so I was v. happy to be there. THANKS GUYS!
What I Wore
Finally busted these Charlotte Olympia bad boys out to liven up a meeting with my accountant.
LOOK AT THEM. LOOK AT THEM!
That is all.
What I Bought
Nothing. Hello, January, my old foe…
Best Beauty Bits
I fell in love with Colourpop’s Wolfie Ultra Glossy Lip over the New Year and it’s a fling that’s in serious danger of becoming a long-term relationship. It’s just the right shade of deep rose pink with a gold metallic flash and it looks amazing with pretty much everything.
SEE HOW PRETTY?! And only $6 which is INSANE. You can find it here and good news, Colourpop ships to the UK now! YAY!
This is very exciting. I’ve been a big foundation snob for a long time but while wandering round Target the other week, I saw and immediately grabbed this wonder. I love a good cushion foundation but it’s so long since I’d tried a Maybelline base, I wasn’t sure what to think. Turns out what I should have thought was GET ON MY FACE. It’s gorgeous, good coverage that buffs out to a decent medium when applied with a flat topped brush and leaves your skin dewy and luminous in the best way. I’m sold.
