Ciaté Pops

I didn’t want to love the Ciaté Pops, honest. I wanted to say ‘pssh’ what a silly, cutesy idea… but the next thing I knew, they were in my hands and on my face and that’s where they’ve been ever since.

At the launch, the Ciaté cosmetics line was described as ‘back of the cab’ make up and these fit that bill perfectly. From the top, they look very similar to the lovely EOS Smooth Sphere lip balms but these are actually even easier to apply. The bottom has a flat mushroom-like stalk that makes it easier to grip and gives you a lot more control as you slap it on your mush (although I have temporarily lost the clear plastic lid a couple of times but that’s more to do with my stupidity than Ciaté’s design).

Right now, there are five colours of blush available, one highlighter and one bronzer so you’re covered for all your blushing, bronzing, shimmering and even, shudder, contouring needs. Can we be over contouring now please? Really, I’m ready for a trend that says my face isn’t good enough as it is, to go away. I digress.

As you can see from the swatches, the products are fairly well pigmented – I swiped these twice per stripe – and they blend out like a dream and last throughout the day. Nice!  The highlighter is pale, even on me, but that’s the way I like my highlighter – kind of like a solid Benefit High Beam with added shimmer. If you’re looking for something with a bit more oomph colour-wise, this isn’t the one for you. Likewise, there’s currently only one bronzer option so if you can, try before you buy. One thing I will say for the bronzer is that there is virtually no shimmer – yaaaaaaas! Same with the blusher which I have in ‘The One’ and genuinely adore.

You should probably know that I’m a blush freak. Cream, powder, gel, liquid, I don’t care, it really is one of my favourite products to buy a) because I see what a huge difference it makes to my face right away and b) because I had a makeover with Trinny and Susannah when I was 22 and Trinny said I should always wear blusher and back then, before she made dubious life partner choices, when Trinny spoke, I LISTENED. She was actually lovely. Anyway, sorry, yes, blusher. I really like this and it’s been in regular rotation along with my Estee Lauder pure Color Cheek Rush, Clinique Cheek Pops and Zelens Blush in Blossom. As I said, I have a problem.

You can find them here and yes, once again, the packaging is effing adorable. ADORABLE, I SAY.
