‘Behind the scenes at the Brits’

One of my personal highlights on the music calendar is always The Brits. It’s an institute, something I grew up watching religiously as a kid, crossed-legged glaring, goggle-eyed, at the TV screen.
So to actually attend and be part of the proceedings is pretty darn surreal.

It’s my third year hosting the live red carpet and backstage show and without a doubt, this was my favourite year. Arctic Monkeys opened the show explosively… Quite literally.

I was sandwiched in between two legends Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams at one point. I had bumped into Nile earlier on in the day backstage. I was running through rehearsals with our backstage crew and blocking out my interview with the guys, when who should wander through but Nile! Just by himself having a little nosey around and taking pictures on his personal camera of all the behind the scenes shenanigans. What a dude!
He even took my picture before I told him I was actually rehearsing an interview… With him! So he decided to watch. Which put A LOT of pressure on the camera man who was pretending to be him.

Pharrell is an absolute gent. So polite and well spoken.. And when I said this to him, he thanked his southern upbringing. He was definitely raised well! And that guy doesn’t seem to age does he?! I need some of whatever he’s taking.

Bastille took home ‘British Breakthrough Awards’ and well deservedly… What a year it’s been for them. They are unbelievable live and their performance on the night with Rudimental and Ella Eyre was bloody good. Did you hear their mash up they did in the live lounge, as an ode to the Brits, of Michael Jackson V Pulp?! It’s so good! Check it out..

Also I’ve been raving about Haim for a loooong time and finally I got to meet the girls in person. They are the coolest chicks ever! They even took the Rizzlekicks boys’ naughty joke of them being a male version of them well. They said they’d just add ‘-men’ to the end of Haim… I’ll let you work that one out for yourself.

It was a long night, and the best thing about the Brits was the party didn’t end when the cameras stopped rolling. There was many a record label afterparty to get to and let’s say it was quite a late one…
