A family vacation
We are so lucky to have just returned from a dream holiday! I could not have asked for more. Times have changed and we are no longer looking for the serenity of an adults only resort with zen like qualities, we need a family resort ~(but would quite like sophistication of what we are used to!!)
I’d seen a placed advertised on the British Airways website and I thought I’d look into it a bit more. The resorts were called ‘Ikos’. They claim to be infinite lifestyle resorts, reinventing the luxury all inclusive. Sounded great so I booked!
We stayed at the Ikos Olivia in Halkidiki. We flew the three hour plane journey from Gatwick and Nico was such a good boy, it was an early start (7am flight!) so I expected him to sleep a little but no such luck! However he was an angel, other passengers commenting how well behaved he was! Top marks Nico!!
Nico enjoying himself on board British Airways!
After a short ride form Thessaloniki airport we arrived at Ikos Olivia and was greeted by the lovely Natalia. We were offered chilled champagne, juice and cold towels. The holiday had begun….
We were showed to our stunning room overlooking the resort and sea, unpacked and headed to one of the five restaurants for a late lunch.
Our Panoramic Junior Suite
The resort offers four al la Carte restaurants with menus created by Michelin stared chefs, a Greek, French, Asian and Italian. Then there is Flavours, an extensive Mediterranean style buffet restaurant with equally excellent food. The food in all five restaurants was absolutely exquisite. We couldn’t ask for any better. One night, in fact, we were eating at Provence and I really fancied something from the Asian menu (blame it on the pregnancy!) and the waiter was very happy to accommodate my needs getting my meal totally form another restaurant! I’m not sure that this is standard or just because I was a hungry pregnant woman! ha! But seriously, nothing is too much for any member of staff.
Our first lunch at the Greek restaurant ‘Ouzo’
Mary, at the Indigo bar, sourced some non-alcoholic woes and spirits for me to drink so that I could have something a bit more exciting than water or Diet Coke!
The pools were fantastic too. There were two , amount the 5, that just came up to Nico’s chest so he was totally comfortable in them without hanging onto Nicky or I, with his arm bands also. He had so much fun. They even had an array of pool inflatables for everyone to use, such a nice touch as we all enjoy a float on a giant unicorn but no one wants to bring or take home, for that matter, a beach lilo! The fact that they had them there, along with bucket and spades on the beach just made the whole experience that more enjoyable and easier.
Nico having lots of fun in one of the children pool with daddy!
We didn’t use the crèche facilities but we did check them out and my god was I impressed, the place was so clean and well organised, I’ve never seen anything like it! I would happily leave Nico in the good care of the staff there knowing that he would have bags of fun in a spotlessly clean and safe environment. Outside the creche was an extensive playground. A huge wooden pirate ship was Nico’s favourite. They really had thought of everything for every age group.
If you have young babies the hotel supply sterilisers, baby baths, bottle warmers, changing mats, potties, high chairs and plastic cups, plates and cutlery – I’ve never known a hotel to offer so much!
There were things that I never got to try, as we were only there for a week, including;
Mini Cooper for a day (to explore the surrounding area)
The Spa!! It looked and smelt delicious though!
The extensive water activities and sports
All of the above is available, plus more, at no extra charge.
All staff were so happy, every single one of them smiled and genuinely loved working at Ikos Olivia. They were all fantastic with the children too, not just the childcare staff. We really have never been anywhere where every single one of us were looked after impeccably well.
Nico enjoying himself colouring in at lunch!
It was like a hotel had opened and a bunch of critics were invited in to tear the place apart and give comments of improvement. Then, every single one of these comments were listened too and acted on. There was truly nothing that I could fault.
Its a must try if you have kids and want a holiday where you actually feel relaxed when you arrive home. We can’t wait to go again! Want to try Ikos Dassia in Corfu next!
We never travel ANYWHERE without our trusty Sleepyhead for Nico! And I mean anywhere! For Nico its like having your own bed wherever you are in the world, and he can get a good nights sleep. We are so lucky that he’s a pretty good sleeper anyway but I’m almost positive that the Sleepyhead plays a huge part of that! Can you spot ours on the top of our luggage trolley!
My advice to any pregnant mum to be out there is ‘buy a Sleepyhead’, I swear by them! Totally worth every penny!
Thats all from me my lovelies, catch up with me next month where I’ll be looking at summer essentials for toddler!
