My Portland Experience!

So its been 2 weeks exactly since I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy! Static is not the word! Nicky & I are so absolutely in love with our little bundle of joy! WE cannot wait to show him off to you very soon!

I was lucky enough to have him at the world renowned Portland Hospital for women and children. My experience from start to finish was just incredible! I have the best doctor, Claire Mellon, which helps too!

We arrived to the Portland around 11.30am on 31st July. We were shown to my room and greeted by my maternity nurse Katie. She told us to relax and for me to get into my gown and Nicky into his scrubs ready to go down to theatre around 1pm.

Theatre ready!

1pm came and still no call from Katie to say that everyone was ready for us. The next person to come to the room was Claire and she told us that the previous patient was in theatre a little longer than expected so we were slightly delayed. As Claire was leaving my maternity nurse came to say that it was time so we all went down in the lift together – exciting!!

We arrived in the theatre and Nicky was feeling nauseous……I think he was more nervous than I was! I just couldn’t believe it was happening, it was all so surreal. The anaesthetist was starting to prep me for the spinal block and everything else, drips in, heart monitors on etc. This was it, it was real!

Looking good!

Once I was numb it all happened so quickly, from the moment Claire started to make the incision our baby boy was born within 4 minutes! Next I was stitched we were taken into recovery and then back to my room where the amazing care and hotel service began!

The food was out of this world! I actually did not want to leave…..I am missing the afternoon tea like crazy! I am lucky as Nicky brings me tea and biscuits in bed every single day but this was another level, every meal was 5 courses, including breakfast!! All was served on silver platters and with a smile from the catering team. Everyone was just so lovely and I cannot recommend the hospital enough. It was incredible!

I am sure that you can read all about the rest of my experience and our baby son in Hello Magazine in a few weeks! Watch this space!

We have be very kindly sent a Baby Bjorn One Carrier that Nicky can’t wait to use! He chose the denim and midnight blue colour combination. We actually chose this before the baby was born and I’m thrilled that we picked this colour as its perfect for a little boy! As soon as we’ve made our first trip out with it i’ll be sure to post some pics!
