Fish ‘n’ Chips, London Fashion Week, a fairytale wedding and #FashionFriday!

Hello all,

How has your week been? Its been busy couple of weeks for me! My last post was on Valentines day morning. Did you do anything special?  I’m never really sure that I like going out on Valentines evening, it can all be a little bit too slushy and cheesy!! A red rose on the table and couples gazing into each others eyes! This year I said to Nicky, ‘lets just stay in with Fish and Chips!” So we did. Steaming hot cod, chips and a flute of rose champagne. What more can a girl want?

We did, however, go out to eat the following evening to one of my favourite restaurants – Roka! I cant wait to try the new one in Mayfair!

So, I visited London Fashion Week at Somerset House on the Saturday. It was so busy with young fashionista’s, photographers, the bloggers and the blaggers all running around looking fabulous and trying to get a glimpse of the next big thing. We bumped into Myleene Klass and had a quick chat to her!

Nicky and I were invited to the launch of “The Last Asylum”. A book written by our sister-in-law, Barbara Taylor. A moving memoir of her time in a mental hospital in North London in the 1980’s. She talks about the UK’s end of the asylum system. How would a woman cope in this day and age? Most of the mental hospitals closed and the privatisation of hostels. In Barbara’s words, “The simple answer relates to what I needed most: asylum, a safe place to be, a ‘stone mother’ to hold me as long as I required it.” Although there is misery in this book, this read is far from miserable.

Last week I said goodbye to my dear Nan. She closed her eyes for the last time on February 6th. She was 92 years old and made of steel! We think that Catherine Tate may have based her “Nan” character on my Nanny Ethel! She had a lovely send off, the sun was shining down on us all as we said our goodbyes and laid her to rest. I made my flowers myself, a heart of roses.  I am sure she would have loved them.

The following day we attended a very special wedding. It was just like a fairytale! Beautiful bridesmaids, some with fairy wings. Trees inside creating a magical atmosphere, green moss on the floor with snowdrops peering through – absolutely stunning! For this wondrous event I wore Stephanie Allin! I absolutely love her dresses!

So here we are bang up to date #FashionFriday. What am I wearing today? I have on a pair of black skinny jeans from Zara (always count on Zara for an affordable staple!), Black skinny polo with a jacket that was hand made for me by my niece, Alexia. Lexi is just 11 years old and presented me with a beautiful box jacket for christmas. I was absolutely speechless! She even found a fabric that had tiny monkey’s all over it to keep in with my logo for my own label! Talk about keeping fashion in the family! ha! It has low slung pockets and a skinny, rounded lapel. I love it! I have always enjoyed being different and having clothes that no one else has, this piece is truly unique! For this picture I put a tie of Nicky’s around my head (just to add a 60’s feel!) which was also made by Lexi.

My ‘handmade by Lexi’ jacket.

I hope you all have some amazing plans for the weekend, I hope the sun shines and you enjoy all that you do!

Until next week.

Big love,

Sinitta, Barbie, fashion design, hairdressing and more – welcome to my blog!

Hi there,

Welcome to my very first Hello Blog. I am truly excited to have joined the blogging team and really hope that you all enjoy the insight to my life, my tips on fashion and helpful health hints!

OK, so in a nutshell – who am I? I am an original Essex Girl, born and bred. I now live in North West London with my boyfriend, hairdresser Nicky Clarke.

I started my working life in the City as a money broker dealing Euro Swaps (yes, I know – hard to believe!). Early morning wake up calls and entertaining through the night seemed like the high life to me. When I got sent to New York to take clients out, in my second week of my first ever job, I thought I was living the dream! Wow I could go places here, I thought!

How wrong was I – four years of that City life soon took its toll. I needed to put my art studies to good use, so I decided to take the jump and go into hairdressing. It was a huge step, not to mention the drop in money, but I knew that being stuck behind a desk was not for me. I wanted to be in the fashion and beauty industry. I became a hairdresser at, not just any salon but the famous Nicky Clarke Mayfair salon. I love it!

Nine years on, here I am, still at Nicky Clarke but now part time. The rest of my time is even more creative, as I am a fashion designer with my own label She Wears A Crown by Kelly Simpkin ! There was something about making clothes for my Barbie dolls, when I was six, that I just knew I was destined to be a designer!

So…. What have I been up to? Well, as you may know I’ve been in Austria for The Jump as my boyfriend, Nicky was taking part. It was the most amazing experience for me as much as the celebs taking part I think! I have made so many fabulous new friends and will be sure to stay in touch with all of them. Sinitta called herself, Amy Childs and me the Charlie’s Angels! We had a picture taken doing our Angel poses! How do we look?

Post-Jump rendezvous have already started. Nicky and I met with Anthea Turner, Sinitta and Jason Gale for Sunday lunch at the Harrods Georgian Restaurant – yum, you cannot beat a Sunday roast! (Photography by Anthea Turner!)

We could hardly move after eating all of that! Strolling, slowly, around the department store afterwards I spotted a gorgeous jacket from Balmain. It’s the Boxy Tweed Jacket at £1,725.00

I absolutely love the military look with over 16 gold buttons. This jacket will look fab with a pair of skinny pants and kitten heels or even wide leg white trousers and stacked wedges for the summer ¬– very nautical! I love the clean, sharp silhouette that it gives, its true Balmain style. If your purse won’t stretch to almost £2k for this wondrous piece, then head down to Zara for a pay-check friendly version.

This blazer has pretty much all of the same detailing; box shape, gold buttons and double breasted. At £79.99 it’s a real bargain. Both of these jackets are staple pieces that can stay in your wardrobe for years to come. They are safe, classic colours and will suit any figure. A must have!

Also this week I have decided to reach out to others with the autoimmune disease that I have (Lupus) by building my own website. (Very ambitious!) It’s called LivingWithLupus.info and will be up and running as soon as I can have it finished. I wanted to give other sufferers the chance to read about my story, my discoveries of things that help and mostly, the chance to interact and talk to other Lupus patients on the forum. Its looking good so far and I will be sure to let you know when it is ready!

As I trail through London’s boutiques and magazines I always spot the most incredible items, from sunglasses to shoes, jewellery to jackets! Each week I thought that I would share my finds in Kelly’s Collectables!

This week I caught a glimpse of these shoes from Tory Burch, I love the contrasting colours but oh so classic. Keeping with my philosophy – a true staple! A real Kelly’s Collectable!

It was a pleasure to blog for you all. I do hope you enjoyed! Have a glorious week!
