What’s going on in the world of Julien Macdonald…
Hello! It’s about time I caught up with you all and fill you in on everything that’s been going on in the world of Julien Macdonald.
January and February were whirlwind months finalising and perfecting my AW17 collection, shown during London Fashion Week. I draw inspiration from artist H.R. Geiger and his work on the set and special effects for Ridley Scott’s master piece Aliens. I’m in the business of making people look beautiful and creating fabulous show-stopping collections. I create pieces that make woman feel sexy and glamorous, coupled with my men’s line showing an equally powerful and confident man in embellished sports luxe.
Victoria’s Secret Angel Georgia Fowler strutted down the catwalk in a Swarovski covered two-piece, as she opened my show to a host of celebrities and the world’s fashion press glitterati. A succession of models then paraded down the catwalk after her, before the beautiful Winnie Harlow closed my show in a daring cut-away gown. The response has been amazing!
After the show, things did not slow down as it was full swing into Hollywood’s annual awards season. The Grammy’s and the Oscars are one of the biggest fashion moments of 2017 and I was thrilled to be a part of this. Ruby Rose looked effortlessly chic at Elton John’s Academy Awards viewing party in a white crystal metallic sheen gown from my autumn/winter ’17 collection. She always tops the best-dressed lists.
Jenna Dewan Tatum, wife of the talented actor Channing Tatum looked stunning in my liquid sequin dress at the Golden Globes and Lucy Hale looked chic and elegant in my white embroidered cocktail dress at the SAG awards.
Demi Lovato, one of the biggest artists in the USA with 56M Instagram followers, wore one of my signature embellished knit gowns to the Grammy’s as too did Cassie Ventura, who is currently dating Puff Daddy. Celebrity stylist and TV presenter Brad Goreski wore one of my heavily embellished tailored jackets.
Brad is a co-host of Fashion Police and what can I say – he always gets it right on the red carpet.
Dobrev is an incredibly talented actress and I was so excited she choose to wear one of my creations, a turquoise embroidered mini dress, for the world premiere of xXx Return of Xander Cage. Nina, you rocked the red carpet! For those who haven’t watched the film, you must! I loved it.
What is there not to love about the Bee Gees? One of my favourite songs of all time is Stayin’ Alive! Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato both chose to wear pieces from me to perform together for the hour long special: ‘Stayin’ Alive: A Grammy Salute to the Music of the Bee Gees’ aired on CBS America. The special show was the top-rated broadcast programme in the USA that night. It was such an honour to be a part of this.
Check out my new homeware range at Debenhams. I recently took over London’s Sanderson Hotel where I kitted out the penthouse with my entire new collection. It looked very glitzy and very glamorous. I invited press and bloggers to come along and see it first-hand. My new range is about all the things I love. So, if you are feeling inspired to spruce up your home, do head online or pop into Debenhams and view my full range.
I am busy working on my next collection now, but I’ll be sure to check in with you all soon and I do hope you are all having a lovely spring so far.
