Emily Ratajowski looked fabulous in my daring gown!
What a whirlwind the lead up to London Fashion Week has been! I have had the honour to dress some of the gorgeous women that graced the red carpets this season, whilst pulling late nights with my team to get the Spring Summer 17 collection finished and ready to showcase at LFW to the front row and fabulous!
Emily Ratajkowski caused quite a stir when she donned one of my favourite Autumn Winter dresses, and why not – she looked fabulous! I design clothes for women who want to celebrate their bodies and I think Emily did that spectacularly in a low cut, black sequin gown. She is the perfect ambassador for the Julien Macdonald brand.
From one supermodel to another, Victoria’s Secret angel Alessandra Ambrosio chose one of my cutout liquid sequin dresses to wear to the Annual Foundation Gala hosted by Leonardo Di Caprio in St Tropez. It goes without saying – she looked incredible!
Dream come true – my ultimate pop star Britney Spears looked totally gorgeous on the red carpet at the MTV VMAs in a Julien Macdonald creation. SO chic in fact she/we made it into the Vogue’s best-dressed gallery!
Hollywood has its glitz and glamour and London has its catwalk, Spring Summer 17 had arrived! It’s been an incredibly busy season, which began with the unveiling of my design installation, in the windows of the Mayfair Hotel. Named the official hotel of London Fashion Week and home to the international press for the duration. The design featured gorgeous metallic, exotic, gold animal prints taken from my latest collection and I felt the utmost honour to have been chosen as the designer of the season.
The inspiration for my Spring Summer 17 collection came from a recent trip to Africa where I completed a half marathon for the charity Tusk Trust. However, this was not the Africa as you know it… This was Julien Macdonald’s Africa! Supermodels to rock stars, imagine the ultimate safari party with my dream guest list: The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Patti Smith and Beyonce inspiring the fun. The collection is a glamorous cohesion of Rock and Roll and Afro Chic! With my African party in mind I was heavily inspired by albino animal prints and snakeskin in lighter sunset tones carved out of Swarovski crystals.
My love of travel and African inspiration has heavily influenced other projects I’ve been working on, like my Graham and Brown wallpaper line. It will come as no surprise that my favourite print is called ‘Easy Tiger’ – check it out, it’s roaring hot!
The show was a huge success, I’ve had great feedback and girls already getting their orders in! It was great to show at Seymour Leisure Centre in Marylebone, it is an incredible venue with a beautiful high ceiling and most importantly, large enough to house all my guests and the mayhem of backstage! The big surprise of course was Hailey Baldwin walking in my show! I love her style, she is chic, effortlessly cool and sexy…the moment we met I asked her to open my show. She opened wearing a rock and roll fringed jacket paired with hot pants and closed the show in a signature Swarovski crystal chain dress, TOTALLY FASHION AND TOTALLY FABULOUS!!
