Life for the last year or so has felt very busy…

Life for the last year or so has felt very busy – at times good busy and at times not so good. I’ve been really craving some quiet and solitude.

For a little while I’ve been escaping to The Watermark in the Cotswolds. It’s a perfect mini break and a world apart from the hustle and bustle of my daily life. The last time my dad and I had quality time together was whilst I was lying in a hospital bed in septic shock, he stayed by my side until 2:30am but had to leave because it was a women’s only ward. I think my recent health scares have been especially hard on my family and as a result have made us much closer.

I’m also sure I’m not the only person to suffer from ‘mum guilt’ and trying to balance quality time with Eddie as well as juggle everything else often leaves me feeling like I’m not doing a very good job of anything. So I decided to pack up the car and take the short journey to the Watermark with my dad and Eddie for two days of secluded bliss and quality time.

The Watermark comprises of five lakes, I always choose to stay on Spring Lake with Cotswold Holiday Lettings as there is a beautiful wooden playground for children and also the fantastic Lakeside Brasserie that is perfect for al fresco lunches in the sunshine or a cold glass of wine at sunset. You can also wakeboard on the lake and Eddie loves watching the speed boat whizz up and down. The house sits on the lake and is the most beautiful place to be; we baked cakes, went for bike rides and jumped in muddy puddles. My dad caught really candid moments of family life from Eddie jumping over the sofas to his general joie de vivre.

The Cotswold Holiday Lettings property I stayed in is unique for its bi-folding doors that bring the outside in and it’s hot tub on the decking. After a day exploring, sitting in the hot tub overlooking the lake with only the sound of the birds was so tranquil. (I hate that I have to add a disclaimer but I must make it clear that the water was warm and not at all hot or Eddie would not have been in with me.) All the properties feature enclosed gardens so children are kept safe from the lake. Kevin, who owns the property, caters so well for families and as well as providing the necessities – high chair, cots etc, he always makes sure Eddie is well catered for in the toy department.

I think England in the sunshine is one of the most beautiful places in the world and I came back feeling totally rested. I could easily spend a week here as there is so much to see and do in the Cotswolds but it’s the perfect family retreat and each time I visit I always leave with the most fantastic memories.
