People always ask if I’m dating anyone…
A question I get asked a lot at the moment is – are you dating anyone? This is usually followed by raucous laughter by me, only stopping when I realise it was a serious question. I can only assume people are interested because we are all obsessed with love – M&S are advertising for Valentine’s Day already! So the answer is, no, of course not! I’m a full-time mum and too many other exciting things are happening to keep me busy.
This week is Cervical Cancer Prevention week and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust are asking people to share their #smearforsmear selfies (put your lipstick on, smear it and take a selfie – remember to use the hashtag #smearforsmear) to remind women to attend their smear test and reduce their risk of cervical cancer. My gorgeous friends, Tamara Ecclestone, Rosie Nixon and Lizzie Cundy were all kind enough to join in along with thousands of other women who got the campaign trending!
Being an ambassador for Jo’s is incredibly fulfilling and something I am enjoying very much. They also continue to provide support to me on a range of personal ongoing issues – the help doesn’t stop when the cancer goes, they are a real life line. I am also about to launch my own blog mumplusone.co.uk but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop blogging here – I’m not going anywhere! I love writing my weekly blogs for HELLO! and will be continuing.
Two years ago in Spain I came up with the idea for Mum Plus One – a blog for single mums. At the time I was living out in Spain and having the most incredible adventures with Eddie and thought it would be a visually interesting blog with some travel tips thrown in for good measure about solo travelling with your little one… fast forward two years and I’ve single handily moved back to the UK, I’ve had a miscarriage, been diagnosed with (and recovered from) cervical cancer and separated from my husband.
I’ve become friends with mothers from all walks of life; mothers in marriages, single mums, mums who have lost children, mums who care full time for their children, mums that stay at home, mums that run their own businesses, and now, two years later, seems like the right time to start Mum Plus One because I have so much more to offer and have so many inspirational mums I can’t wait to introduce readers to. I don’t claim to know it all, not by any means, but I’m looking forward to starting the journey. I’m launching the blog at the end of Feb but for now you can follow us on IG (mumplusone) or twitter (mumplusonetweet).
I’m also gearing up to judge the Parenting Category at the UK Blog Awards – the short list is amazing. Oh and did I mention that I’m moving house this weekend!
In between all that I also enjoyed a night out for Nordoff Robbins rugby dinner at The Grosvenor. Nordoff Robbins is the largest independent music therapy charity in the UK, dedicated to changing the lives of vulnerable and isolated people. It’s always nice to have an excuse to get glammed up and to be made aware of new charities and the wonderful amount of good people are doing in the world. On top of all that I am keeping my fingers crossed for my 6 month post cancer all clear – I get my results this week. There are so many things keeping me busy and happy but without doubt the thing that keeps me busiest and happiest is being a mum!
