Tabitha and Emily talk London Fashion Week!

Designer Tabitha Webb and blogger Emily Johnston of Fashion Foie Gras may be friends but they don’t always see eye to eye. In their new HELLO! blog they’ll be discussing all things lifestyle. With London Fashion Week starting on Friday, this week’s hot topic is: What to wear to Fashion Week?

Fashion editors and style bloggers alike are getting frothed up like a fat-free cappuccino about the impending LFW – what to wear in case they are papped for an unexpected street-style shot? Will their outfits be Instagram worthy? I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

Personally, I am all about the “natural” look and prefer an “I’ve made no effort but obviously have made an effort” style. So when needing to look the part I will go to Hari’s Hairdressers on the King’s Road and ask for a blow-dry that doesn’t look like a blow-dry. That make sense? Then I will throw on my new Stella McCartney silk joggers with my Stan Smiths and my favourite new baby-blue Rebecca Taylor leather jacket (I would go for the new Pucci gold sequin jacket if I could afford it), jump on my Boris Bike and head for the nearest show.

My hot tickets this season will be Emilia Wickstead and Erdem. They are both on fire at the moment and I know will have the best front rows (Frows to those in the know) of the week. Belstaff might get Liv Tyler to fly by as it has just launched the most gorgeous collaboration with her (not to mention the ripped men who might be hanging around, like David Beckham), but I would also love to get a glimpse of Lily James or Emilia Clarke sitting front and centre. I love nothing more than a stylish British actress soaking up the fashion scene and they are both so cool and understated in their own unique way.

Afterwards you will find me eating the most delicious guacamole at Peyote in Mayfair, which is aptly named after a hallucinogenic cactus. The best thing about this relatively undiscovered gem is I get to live out my secret Coyote Ugly fantasies and dance on the bar once the dj gets the place rocking at the weekend.

But ladies don’t worry if London Fashion Week seems a bit too much of a fashion challenge, grab your tickets for London Fashion Weekend instead. Open to the public and with some awesome bargains from top designers, you will find yourself fully dressed for next season at half the price.

As we roll into September, I must admit I should have been planning this month for the past three weeks. For a blogger, Fashion Week is sacred. Getting tickets to the hottest shows – including Burberry, Christopher Kane and Alice Temperley – is the ultimate “I’ve been accepted into the fashion pack” moment and making sure you are front and centre, dressed head to toe in the label marching down the catwalk, is almost a rite of passage. This is a chance to see and be seen.

After 15 seasons of Fashion Week, I’ve learnt a few things. I’ve discovered that there’s always a great blow-dry that can be had in your own living room the morning of the shows. I swear by Blow Ltd. I know that this season, and any season really, the latest classic bag from Céline or an original painted clutch from Boyarde will get you street-style-snapped at every show.

And, finally, I now understand that heels are only do-able if you have flats hidden in your oversized handbag. Ladies, look up Butterfly Twists. You can thank me later.

There are a few Fashion Week ladies who should be emulated wherever possible. Keep your eyes on the prize with Olivia Palermo, Martha Ward and Caroline Issa.

When not salivating over Olivia’s outfit of the day, or running between catwalks in east and central London, I’ll be writing like a demon. Yes, this is work for me, after all. But, I’ll tell you what, I love every minute of it!
