Happy Mum, Happy Baby has landed!

I’ve been very open about my nerves over HAPPY MUM, HAPPY BABY finally being published. It’s been emotional to have something so personal making its way onto book shelves and there for people to read. That being said, I’ve also been very excited!

Before publication day last Thursday, I was treated to a wonderful launch party in Polpo on Shaftesbury Avenue. The room was filled with my friends, family and lots of mummy bloggers, vloggers and women I truly admire online. I was pretty stoked that so many people turned up to mark the birth of my first ever non-fiction book.
The rest of the week was fairly chaotic.

TUESDAY: The book tour was kicked off with a Q&A in Piccadilly’s Waterstones. This was hosted by journalist, writer and comedian Viv Groskop. Usually these events are about my fiction work, but this time things were far more personal, thanks to the book being all about me. Viv was incredibly easy to talk to and the audience were warm and friendly. There was a lovely atmosphere in the room – something that’s been true of all of the events so far. Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever not enjoyed a book event. I spend so much time on my own in my office when I’m writing that it’s lovely to get out and actually communicate with people properly! It can sometimes make me a little giddy.
WEDNESDAY: Enjoyed a swanky lunch with my editor Charlotte Hardman and book publicist Eleni Lawrence from Hodder to celebrate the book’s publication before heading over to AOL. Here I did a live Q&A session for their BUILD series with Amy Packham. From there we went to Bauer radio for some press interviews.

THURSDAY: Lorraine! Yes, I was back on the comfy sofa, but as Lorraine is off having the adventure of a lifetime with her husband, Helen Skelton was hosting the show. I’ve never met Helen before but she was very friendly and funny. We sat and had a great chat about motherhood, completely forgetting we were on air. Ha! From there we went to Mumsnet for a game of ‘Never have I ever…’ before having a little break (I went home and tidied up) before heading to a book event with the Chorleywood Bookshop, hosted by the wonderful Kathy Miller. Again, a room of brilliant people. I love meeting everyone after the Q&As and hearing their own stories. I’m always touched that people feel they can share, and deeply humbled by the whole thing! That night I forgot to have dinner – so I had two Nutella Krispy Kreme doughnuts someone had given me on the way home instead. I practically inhaled them.

FRIDAY: The Wright Stuff! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I turned up to the studio as I’ve never been on the show before – but I had so much fun and the two hours flew by. Matthew Wright was hilariously funny, Andrew Lancel saved me from talking nonsense about political matters I know nothing about, and I admired Shazia Mirza’s no nonsense approach to the topics being discussed. At one point I did make a big unintended sexual reference which left Matthew and I both red faced – I’m told it’ll make the Christmas highlights. Haaaa! We then drove to Reading for a signing and before getting the train to Bath for an evening event. This one was set in the stunning Guildhall and hosted by Julia May-Brown, a producer from BBC Radio 2. I cried at this one. I mean, I feel myself wobble at all the events when talking about personal matters, but on this occasion I couldn’t hold back.

SATURDAY: Signings in Chelmsford and Romford. It was great being back in my home county and in places I spent large chunks of my childhood. I use to work in Debenhams in Chelmsford and spent many Saturdays walking around Romford Market with my mum, Giorgie and Mario – the highlight was always dunky doughnuts, if we’d been good. That’s twice I’ve mentioned doughnuts in this post!!

SUNDAY: A day with Tom and the boys, which started with pancakes (again, a naughty treat) and then a trip to Southend in Essex to see my dad, Debbie, uncle and Mario. Buzz is actually staying with my dad while I travel up north for signing as, typically, it’s landed at a really busy time for Tom too. All is well though. Buzz is so excited to be having some fun with his Nonna. I miss him already!
And now I’m off! This week I’ll be going to Chester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Birmingham, Southampton, Brighton and then the Baby Show next Saturday. Fun times!
Big love,
Gi. Xx
