V&A’s stunning entrance hall – obsessed with that chandelier!

Hey guys! Today is the first official instalment of What Rocked My World This Week. Thank you so much for all of the lovely tweets following my introductory post!

Today I’m sharing with you one of my favourite locations in London – the Victoria & Albert Museum. I recently took my Mum for a day out to the V&A; we saw the Glamour of Italian Fashion exhibition (which sadly has now ended) however visiting the museum for the first time in years reignited my love for it. If you haven’t visited before, the official blurb is that the V&A is “the world’s leading museum of art and design, the V&A enriches people’s lives by promoting the practice of design and increasing knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of the designed world.” It is indeed an incredibly inspiring place. Artefacts, fashion, history . . . there really is something for everyone! If like me however you have a particular love for style, then the jewellery rooms and fashion exhibitions are something to behold.

I fell in love with every corner of the V&A – including the tiled steps!

The V&A currently has a wedding dress exhibition on until March 2015, and have just announced Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty exhibition for March 2015 – July 2015 which will be the late designer’s largest European retrospective to date; tickets are now on sale and I would highly recommend snapping them up!

The Victoria & Albert museum building itself is breathtaking; the central courtyard is the perfect spot for an afternoon pause. Mum and I indulged in raspberry tarts, brownies and coffee, and had a brilliant time people watching. I also think the V&A would make a great date spot! On a Friday the galleries stay open till 10pm; a peruse in the evening through the museum followed by dinner in Kensington sounds like a heavenly date to me.

So enamoured was I with the V&A I went the whole hog and signed up as a member, which means I can go to any exhibition for a whole year for free! Plus a guest! I’d really recommend doing this if you love visiting the museum, it is much more cost effective and you get to skip queues, use the members room which has a lovely cafe and quiet area, and get a discount in the shop.

My shiny new membership card – I was so excited to receive this in the post!

OH and the shop! The best place to finish your V&A visit. Pick up one of the many fabulous fashion books, and gifts for friends. I bought new stationary in the V&A signature prints.

Until next week!

Love, Monica x
