Cornwall Adventure!

Polzeath Beach Cornwall

Hi guys!

I hope you all had a great week!

I hold my hands up to being a total ‘Birthday person’ – I love celebrating EVERYONE’s big day – and drag mine out for the majority of January (thank you patient friends and family!)!

With this in mind, I was super happy to share my Birthday this year with one of my best friends whose Birthday falls on the same day! Double Birthday goodness – as you can imagine – I was in heaven!

We spent our joint Birthday, with our respective parters and another couple, down in Polzeath Cornwall.

I hadn’t been to Cornwall until last November, when my boyfriend and I stayed in the same modern beach house we stayed in this year.

NB: A house made of mainly glass by the sea = view central!

Every morning we’d wake lazily, put on a pot of coffee, and simply watch the waves break from the cosy comfort of our (borrowed) home.

Caffeinated up, we braved the sea! I love the heat, but the British sea is spectacular, moody and although bitterly cold, with wetsuits you don’t feel it! I promise!

The Cornwall coastline is breathtaking, and the greatest pleasure to have been enjoyed on our trip away, was simply switching off for a while.

If you haven’t visited Cornwall before, I’d highly recommend going in the Winter months! Summer can be EXTREMELY busy, but Winter is silent, peaceful and very romantic.

With Valentines just around the corner – it could be the perfect last minute getaway.

You can see more of my images from Cornwall on my blog, The Elgin Avenue.

Have a great weekend all!

Till next time!

Spring Shoes

Nude Shoes: French Sole India Pump

Hey guys!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a brilliant Christmas and festive season!

It’s been a few weeks since I last checked in with you guys, apologies! I fully hold my hands up to getting swept away with Christmas chaos!

This week I broke in to my first pair of Spring shoes – a pair of nude ballet pumps from one of my favourite brands – French Sole.

I had intended to save these sweet pumps for a warm Spring day, but they looked too pretty to ignore and I wore them on an errands run when the sun shone for a whole five minutes this week.

Given the crazy weather we’ve been experiencing in the UK recently, nude ballet pumps may not make for the most logical of footwear options; however they are worth purchasing for the seasons ahead.

Nude pumps look super sweet with skinny jeans and a breton t-shirt for Spring, and with a flippy white dress in Summer.

This pair from French Sole are a worthwhile investment at £85; and these leather pumps from Next are a great purse-friendly option.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Till next time!

Love, Monica x

Festive Jumpers To Wear All Year

Hey guys! I hope you’re all been having a suitably festive week! Personally I’ve been taking full advantage of the season so far with a trip to Winter Wonderland last night, and a small Christmas party at home for friends too.

Today is Christmas Jumper Day, a great initiative to encourage donations for Save The Children, whilst spreading some sartorial festive cheer! You can donate £2 by texting WOOLY to 70050 – all T&C’s here.

With today being such a special jumper-focused day, I thoughts I’d share a few on my favourite jumpers making the rounds right now. Here are four rocking my world (not just week!), all of which look great for Christmas, but which can be styled up over the rest of the year too.

1: Red Cashmere Jumper: Boden  2: Fairisle Jumper: Next  3: Funnel Neck Jumper: Topshop  4:Gold Jumper: Boden

I’d wear all of the above with skinny jeans and ankle boots, or a black mini skirt and opaque tights. Versatile and SO fun for the season!

Have a great weekend!

Christmas Spirit

Somerset House Ice Rink copy

Hi guys! I had my first real taste of the Christmas season this week, with a visit to the Somerset House ice rink. One of my favourite London department stores Fortnum & Mason are sponsoring the ice rink this year and as expected they’ve done a stunning job with the decorations. This will be my first year decorating a proper Christmas tree of my own; fingers crossed it’ll look even a fraction as good at the F&M version!

Winchester Christmas Market copy

This time of year is the best for getting snug, seeing friends and enjoying all of those lovely festive indulgences. My boyfriend Oli and I made it to our local Christmas market for a photo shoot (ahem, and mulled wine) which made a lovely change from our normal shooting spots!

Hope you all have lovely plans for the weekend.

Until next week!

Accessorize’s SS’15 Preview

Accessorize SS15 Preview 1

Hey guys! I hope you’ve all been having a good week!

This time of year is super busy with press days for the upcoming Spring/Summer ’15 season. One of my favourite previews to check in with each season is Accessorize, and the one we were treated to this week was as beautiful, bohemian and fabulous as ever.

Z For Accessorize SS15

Earlier in the year I had the pleasure of previewing the Z For Accessorize collection, by Zara Simon, which launched in the Summer. With its luxurious look, quality gold-plating, and affordable price tag, it was inevitable it would become a runaway success. The collection is going from strength to strength, and SS’15 looks set to be its best yet! In lieu of the Summer pieces, I’m snapping the Autumn/Winter Z For Accessorize collection up by the bucket load for Christmas gifts!

Alongside the jewellery, I am a complete sucker for a great clutch. I fell for all of the fun incarnations we previewed for S/S ’15. I’ve already got my eye on the watermelon-shaped, and beaded versions from Accessorize (top image). In the mean time though, I am sufficing my accessory-lusts with this beautiful beaded box clutch. It’s the perfect piece for the festive party season.

And finally, I couldn’t mention the Accessorize preview without a nod to its incredible decor! I want to nab the visuals team and get them to dust a little bit of their magic over my home! From walls covered in flowers, to streams and streams of feathers, we were treated to an Ibizan-themed paradise which totally transported us out of drizzly London.

The Accessorize SS’15 collection will begin dropping in stores early next year.

Do you guys love the look of it as much as I do?

Until next week!

Snug & Stylish Travel

Lily and Lionel London studio

Gorgeous Lily and Lionel studio

Hi guys! I hope you have all been having a great week. Apologies for my absence last Friday, I was over on the other side of the Atlantic in NYC! Given that all things travel are currently on my mind, this week’s post is dedicated to one of my favourite travel essentials – the blanket scarf.

To clarify, I am not referring to the Burberry-esque cape-scarves we are seeing so many of this season (I am reserving those for strolls in the country with jeans and boots), no no, I am talking about the altogether lighter cousin, the travelling blanket scarf.

Becksondergaard Scarf Travel Accessory Hello! Fashion by Monica Beatrice Welburn

This came everywhere with me in NYC!

Whenever I used to read articles on celebrities’ people’s top travelling tips, a ‘light weight woollen scarf’ would always crop up. Coveting one of these innocuous dream travelling partners, I found my first love in Danish brand BeckSondergaard. BeckSondergaard produce the most gorgeous printed light weight scarves, which are, I am sure you can guess, the perfect travel partners. When in NYC I travelled with a beautiful grey and blue style.

Feather and Stone Leopard Print Scarf Worn With Breton Tee

Love love love a leopard scarf!

London-based brand Lily and Lionel is another favourite travel label of mine. Lily and Lionel produce the softest paper-thin scarves, in stunning prints, specifically with the stylish traveller in mind. The brand’s founder Alice Stone embodies every element of the chic traveller, I was sold on her brand from the moment I met her. Finally, let me introduce you to Feather & Stone. Another British brand which taps in to the travel scarf market, as well as producing some of my favourite every day jewellery – I wear the stackable rings religiously.

With Christmas right around the corner, now is definitely the time to get a travel friendly scarf on your wish list! You will forever reach for this piece when heading for an adventure, and day to day they are brilliant for staying snug.

Let me know how you guys get on!

Until next week!

Fashion at the Victoria & Albert Museum

V&A’s stunning entrance hall – obsessed with that chandelier!

Hey guys! Today is the first official instalment of What Rocked My World This Week. Thank you so much for all of the lovely tweets following my introductory post!

Today I’m sharing with you one of my favourite locations in London – the Victoria & Albert Museum. I recently took my Mum for a day out to the V&A; we saw the Glamour of Italian Fashion exhibition (which sadly has now ended) however visiting the museum for the first time in years reignited my love for it. If you haven’t visited before, the official blurb is that the V&A is “the world’s leading museum of art and design, the V&A enriches people’s lives by promoting the practice of design and increasing knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of the designed world.” It is indeed an incredibly inspiring place. Artefacts, fashion, history . . . there really is something for everyone! If like me however you have a particular love for style, then the jewellery rooms and fashion exhibitions are something to behold.

I fell in love with every corner of the V&A – including the tiled steps!

The V&A currently has a wedding dress exhibition on until March 2015, and have just announced Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty exhibition for March 2015 – July 2015 which will be the late designer’s largest European retrospective to date; tickets are now on sale and I would highly recommend snapping them up!

The Victoria & Albert museum building itself is breathtaking; the central courtyard is the perfect spot for an afternoon pause. Mum and I indulged in raspberry tarts, brownies and coffee, and had a brilliant time people watching. I also think the V&A would make a great date spot! On a Friday the galleries stay open till 10pm; a peruse in the evening through the museum followed by dinner in Kensington sounds like a heavenly date to me.

So enamoured was I with the V&A I went the whole hog and signed up as a member, which means I can go to any exhibition for a whole year for free! Plus a guest! I’d really recommend doing this if you love visiting the museum, it is much more cost effective and you get to skip queues, use the members room which has a lovely cafe and quiet area, and get a discount in the shop.

My shiny new membership card – I was so excited to receive this in the post!

OH and the shop! The best place to finish your V&A visit. Pick up one of the many fabulous fashion books, and gifts for friends. I bought new stationary in the V&A signature prints.

Until next week!

Pleasure To Meet You!

Hi guys! I am so excited to virtually meet all of you in my very first post for HELLO! Fashion. In my new blog series I’ll be sharing with you something fabulous which has ‘rocked my world’ each week – be that the perfect pair of metallic flats, a great cocktail recipe or a brilliant idea for a day out. Next week the series will be officially up and running, but before we go any further, here’s a little more about me:

Monica-Beatrice-Welburn-Hello-Fashion-WebName: Monica Beatrice Welburn

Age: 24

Occupation: founder of, occasional presenter and stylist.

Location: A stone’s throw away from London in a beautiful market town; I spend half my time working from home, and the other time at appointments, shows, and shoots.

Personal style: I often go from writing my blog,  to a meeting and on to an event, so I need outfits which work 12 hours a day! I love power accessories to amp up a look – lipstick, heels and earrings are my day to night weapons.

Tea or coffee? Weekdays: black americano coffee and green tea. Weekends: extra hot, dry cappuccino. I wait ALL week for that bad boy!

Heels or trainers? I wear both! But mainly trainers or flats during the day as I try to walk between appointments. If I know there will be minimal movement I love a great pair of heels.

Favourite food: Breakfast, in pretty much every guise.

Favourite item in my wardrobe: I bought a camel coat a couple of years ago; it was a big expense for me at the time but I thought “I’ll wear this forever” and so far it’s true! I am a jewellery freak too; I have three boxes – one for delicates, one for statement pieces, and one for precious items.

Perfect day: No alarm, extra snoozing, papers and coffee in bed. After that, a day filled with loved ones.

Favourite colour: blue, in all its beautiful shades.

Most used word: definitely something effusive! Yay or awesome?!

Until next week!

Love, Monica x
