My 2014 in Girl Meets Dress

The year 2014 has been full of so many amazing new designer dress collections on the Girl Meets Dress website. And as the year went on and I wore each new dress, just like our customers who hire from us each week, a special memory was created in that dress at that event.

I’ve loved so many dress moments in 2014 and thought I would share some of my favourites… all the styles are still available to hire through into 2015!

Each dress is linked so click through and read more about the style and check if it is available for your event dates. Remember you can book dresses in advance for any future event. Click on the calendar shown on every dress page. Alternatively, we now have a Girl Meets Dress showroom in Battersea, London – so if you fancy trying on our dresses together with our personal stylists who will advise and help you choose, book an appointment. Award ceremonies call for festive gowns

Come November, the various business awards are in full swing across London and Girl Meets Dress –  thrilled to be nominated – popped along to enjoy dinner, entertainment and catch up with industry friends – and of course see if we would win!

The Great British Entrepreneur Awards took place at the renowned Old Billingsgate and Gyles Brandreth was the perfect host, having everyone in fits of laughter. 65 entrepreneurs were recognised , with James Watt, founder of BrewDog, taking home the Grand Prix accolade of Great British Entrepreneur of the Year.

We did make our appearance on stage when Headline Sponsor NatWest awarded Girl Meets Dress with the NatWest Special Merit Award in the category of ecommerce. Congratulations team!

So, the dress? I choose to wear our purple CARMEN MARC VALVO  Iridescent Chiffon Gown for the first time. What more could a girl want; cap sleeved flowing chiffon. Definitely a more feminine style that I usually choose. The softly pleated A-line skirt falling from the empire waist and corseted bodice did, I have to admit, warrant a couple of ‘princess’ comments from the table, so what else was I supposed to do other than rise to the theme with a little outburst verse of Frozen’s “Let it Go…”

The following week Girl Meets Dress hosted a table at the Retail Systems Awards and we provided beauty goody bags to all female guests. I was also presenting an award on stage so needed a suitably glamorous dress. This time I chose the gorgeous Crepe Halter evening gown with a halter neck style feature and contrasting embroidered detailing accents the bodice which continues along the back. After dinner, the room transformed into a casino and we had a lot of fun gambling for prizes well into the night.

For the next  awards later that same week, The Growing Business Awards, hosted by comedian Ed Byrne at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square I wore this black Sleeveless Lace Shutter Gown. I love the tiers of airy organza mixed with delicate floral lace in this sweeping, floor length design.

Girl Meets Dress live from the NTAs

As you can imagine the Girl Meets Dress team have been incredibly busy over the last month, it being awards season –  dressing customers for their award evenings and work functions. Our press team were also busy as we recently became an official partner of the National Television Awards and were excited to attend the event this week. It’s always fun to attend events as a team, and it was great to see both celebrities and audience members wearing our dresses. Kelly Hoppen was spotted wearing our Amanda Wakeley Scuba gown whilst Gemma Oaten from Emmerdale decided to pick our Gorgeous Couture Reagan dress.

As the awards show was at the huge O2 there were thousands of people.  We had fantastic seats in front of the stage, behind the celebrities, and we  tweeted on the Girl Meets Dress Twitter and Instagram accounts throughout the night. Dermot O’Leary was the host and was hilarious, he had the GMD team in fits of giggles. We loaned a dress to his stage hostess who won a competition through The Sun to present the awards to celebrities on stage, she wore the Carmen Marc Valvo Crepe Halter Gown and looked amazing!

The dress code on the tickets said black tie, but I  spotted a few ladies in jeans and jumpers! Of course we raided the GMD rails before leaving the office and went sporting some of Girl Meets Dress’s latest dresses, I wore the Eilsa Ryan Off the Shoulder Lace Dress whilst the PR team wore Amanda Wakeley and MSGM, and the customer services team wore Clover Canyon and Gorgeous Couture. Some audience members chose to wear full length ball gowns whilst others went for sequin party dresses, it was a wide mix which made the night full of people watching during the breaks!

The Drapers Awards 2013

The past week has definitely been all about juggling work with our office move… so it was nice to dress up on Thursday evening and attend the Drapers Awards 2013, an annual evening of glamour and celebration with some of the most renowned names in the UK fashion retail industry.

It was the 2nd time in a week I had been to an event at Old Billingsgate in the City of London; the NOAH tech conference after party was also held there.

An audience of more than 800 gathered for the black-tie awards dinner and Girl Meets Dress were seated with a fabulous group from the retail and ecommerce industry at our table. Our host Victoria from Drapers led an extremely fun dinner, deciding to monopolise the twitter feed on the big screen above the stage by creating our own hashtag #table72 – and as we browsed the lots on auction from the ipads placed on each table, we enjoyed courses of pumpkin, duck and chocolate cheesecake.

The dresses on show were extremely impressive, with all the female attendees choosing to go high in the glamour stakes and the obvious trends of the night were fully sequinned mini dresses, short lace dresses with sleeves, and black full length gowns. I decided to go for colour, and picked a red lace cocktail dress by a new brand to Girl Meets Dress Honor Gold. I was in the mood for sleeves, and teamed the dress with black tights, metallic slingback sandals and a black snakeskin box clutch bag.

We bumped into lots of familar faces from the retail and online industry and it was great to catch up with friends we hadn’t seen in a while. The Drapers ladies looked stunning as usual, and had all decided to go for dresses with a shine, whether chunky multicoloured beads, sequins or glittery strands sewn into chiffon.

Dara O’Briain was our host for the evening, announcing the award winners, and the hilarious Irishman helped make the night a memorable one.

The after dinner party was circus themed and contained a photo booth, a popcorn stand and a pick and mix cart. When the evening ended at 2am on the dance floor, we collected our coats and headed out into the night, as I glanced back and caught sight of Drapers team shimmering away to the music.

Girl Meets Dress and Boux Avenue’s #PartyPerfect blogger evening

On Wednesday evening  Girl Meet Dress teamed up with the Boux Avenue team who hosted a #PartyPerfect blogger event.

A group of our favourite bloggers were invited to choose their dream designer dress from a secret press showrooms before finding their perfect Boux Avenue lingerie with an expert bra fitting in the luxurious fitting suites where fizz, bubbles and fun were served.

Once dressed to impress, the girls received the VIP treatment in hair and make-up. Charles Worthington stylists created a menu of four fabulous styles – plaits, blow outs, chic pony tails and up do’s, while AOFM finished each look with a beauty makeover.

Dressed up and ready for dinner, the bloggers were whisked away to Beach Blanket Babylon in Notting Hill.

It was a wonderful evening and thanks to all the girls at Boux Avenue girls and the guests; PoppyMonicaRosieLelaLoisReenaGemmaHayleySabrinaAmy and Linda, and Charles Worthington and AOFM
