In the kitchen we’re moving on quickly to getting everything ready for Easter – and then somebody mentioned Pancake Day which we’d all nearly forgotten about.
I love pancakes and don’t need an excuse to make up a batch for a relaxed weekend breakfast, but the tradition of making pancakes on Shrove Tuesday is one we shouldn’t forget. It’s also great fun getting the kids involved – I remember in my youth sticking as many as possible to the ceiling to the dismay of my mum!
I’m a sweet pancake fan myself, although the French way of eating them with cheese, ham and the optional addition of an egg is a delicious treat. They seem to have the art sewn up – wafer thin crepes stuffed with bananas and Nutella are another favourite.
As with all things though, the simplest is often the best and good old lemon and sugar make the most delicious combination.
