Luxury at it’s best in Barbados
All of us know that after a long flight, we just want to get to our destination with as little pain as possible, so from landing in Barbados and going into the usual hustle and bustle of an airport, I was delighted to see my name on the meet and greet card from the Fairmont Royal Pavilion Hotel in Barbados.
The hotel representative fast tracked me through passport control and customs which was a dream come true, and very soon I was in an air conditioned vehicle on my way to the hotel.
My interest in staying at this hotel stemmed from hearing that it had just gone though a multi-million dollar renovation which had dramatically changed the hotel’s guest rooms by making them luxurious and contemporary and raised the bar for luxury hospitality in Barbados. The restoration, designed to significantly enhance the facilities of the Fairmont Royal Pavilion was reportedly outstanding.
I had been informed that all the 72 new guest rooms had uninterrupted sea views and the suites have interconnecting configurations for families. There is also a Villa which is a secluded three-bedroom unit within the beautiful gardens – just steps from the resort pool and beachfront and the beach the hotel is located on is considered to be one of the best in Barbados.
As I design luxury homes around the world I wanted to experience this renovation for myself and see if indeed this was as good as I had heard, I have a very critical eye which is imperative in my business, so I am not easily wowed!
On arrival at the hotel, I was offered a glass of champagne, which is always a lovely way to start any vacation, of course there were non alcoholic welcome drinks available too as well as Rum punch and once I was seamlessly checked in, I was escorted to my suite after a short tour of the hotel grounds.
I was immediately aware that all that I had heard about this hotel and it’s new renovation was absolutely true, my suite was stunning, spacious, and wow what a view!
The balconies are large with contemporary daybeds which match the colour palate of the spacious, cool interiors. Colours are light and airy with off whites and taupe, leaving the beautiful aquamarine sea in front of your window as your main feature view, and of course the rooms have all the latest mod cons and flat screen tv’s. I really felt I was in the height of luxury.
The furniture chosen for this hotel is perfect, beautifully designed, with quality items, but without losing the cool beach vibe
The spacious bathrooms had full length mirrors and fantastic lighting which most hotels don’t seem to get right! They are the sort of bathrooms you love spending time in, as you feel you are your own special, relaxing zone.
The fact that the Fairmont Royal Pavilion also caters for families is great too and children under 12 can stay free in their parent’s room, which is an added bonus.
There is an array of non motorised water sports to choose from which are all complimentary when staying in the hotel so it is perfect for families and couples alike.
The service was superb, very attentive and professional and I felt completely pampered and looked after throughout my stay.
I dined at the hotel and the food was excellent, my favourite for lunch was The Taboras Restaurant, casual with great views but delicious food and fantastic service. The bar near the pool was fun for a sun-downer, very sociable and vibrant and if you feel like socialising with other guests, this is a good place to start!
The Fairmont Royal Pavilion Hotel is a real gem in Barbados and most certainly has the style and glamour, but relaxing atmosphere that people crave for in the Caribbean. This is by far my favourite and I cannot wait to return very soon!
