Glorious Luxury at Cliveden House
Having spent many a great stay at the Chewton Glen luxury hotel, I thought I would try the renowned sister hotel Cliveden House as I had heard that it had recently built a fabulous new spa!
On arriving at this stunning five star country estate hotel, I was so impressed with the grounds which boast 376 acres of magnificent Grade I listed formal gardens and woodlands. The house stands upon the cliffs which lend the house its name, and it reveals panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. The gardens feature the celebrated Parterre, season-long floral displays, distinctive topiary and a collection of exceptional sculptures… it is most certainly a breathtaking sight.
The house is steeped in history Built in 1666 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham, as a gift to his mistress. It is filled with antique furniture and period features, and is literally stunning. It has seen its fair share of debaucherous parties and scandalous affairs, in which the ‘Profumo’ affair was one of the most well known.
I couldn’t wait to see the new spa I have heard so much about! There are seven treatment rooms along with The Studio for the perfect pampering opportunity. You can choose from an array of products, including The Cliveden Body Treatments. These experiences and treatments use Cliveden’s own range of products, providing guests with an exceptional personal experience to address the individual’s complete wellbeing. Treatments are carried out on a water mattress during which your therapist will conduct a full consultation to establish your specific needs and tailor each treatment accordingly for an entirely bespoke experience. The Oskia facials are gorgeous, holistic and not only draw on massage, reflex and lymph drainage but also acupressure. I chose a lovely oil massage, which was just amazing. Not only do you have the gorgeous products and treatments to chose from, There is a serene, large, indoor pool and in the garden you will find the infamous ‘Profumo’ pool; the last remaining listed outdoor pool in England and 2 outdoor hot tubs. I was very impressed with the state-of-the-art Technogym, and for someone who takes their fitness seriously, consider myself a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to a good gym. The indoor Jacuzzi is also a fantastic asset to the spa, as is a visit to the infrared sauna and infused steam room. Finish off the experience with a visit to The Spa Kitchen with the added benefit of al fresco dining.
Once I had indulged in the fantastic facilities, I decided to have drinks on the roof terrace, the views over the gardens were breathtaking and I could see where all the hype about this hotel came from,
My dining experience was equally excellent, with the tasting menu second to none, and the wines exquisite, and of course service was just as expected at this level.
How better to finish off this wonderful experience than to enter into my rather large suite in the main building, with enough room for a small gathering, grab my luxurious toweling robe, and after a relaxing bath in the perfectly equipped bathroom, have one of the best nights sleep for a long time! I will be re-visiting this glorious hotel very soon, I cannot recommend it enough as a complete and utter luxury experience!
