The World Cup has taken over my life

aj1

I’m not going to pretend I know that much about football because really I don’t but this last week the World Cup has taken over my life. I’ve been staying up way past my bedtime, latching on to support other teams (now that England and Nigeria have been knocked out), buying vintage football shirts on eBay and I’ve even been shouting at the telly (a taxing chore of the vocal cords I never thought I’d do). Yep. It’s become my unhealthy obsession. To the point where I’ve been cancelling all plans to watch it. No Wireless festival for me; I watched the footy. And when that wasn’t on, it was all balls and rackets with Wimbledon.

aj2
One date that I didn’t cancel however was with cosmetics brand Urban Decay who kindly invited me round to their HQ to take a goosey gander at their array of new products launching August 4th. Snazzy eyeliners, fancy lipsticks and mascaras that have honey in it! Oh. Yes.
I also held down the fort on my Hoxton Radio show, sharing sweet tales of galavanting around London whilst playing mega tunes. If you’re missing my radio shows for some bizarre reason, fear not, you can always listen back right here - http://www.hoxtonradio.com/category/aj-odudu and I even upload my playlist onto the music page on my website. Check it out here:

Until we meet again, tarrah!

I feel like Victoria Pendleton is becoming my personal trainer

aj1

To encourage commuters to run home, me and my friend Ashley James did a 6 mile run led by World and Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton to kick start Fitness First home run initiative. I’ve done a spin class led by Pendleton before so now that we’ve ran together too, I feel like she’s somewhat becoming my personal trainer. Having just cycled 71 miles the day before, the initial topic of my conversation with Victoria related to bums, namely mine, which was terribly sore. I asked how on earth she did it? As a professional cyclist surely her backside must be hurting all the time?!  The secret is cycle more, and your derrière gets used to it. Simple. Cheeky chat over, we limbered up ready for our 6 mile run and were on our way.

aj2

We took in all the sights, through the busy streets of Camden, past the Arsenal Football stadium all the while chatting, panting, sweating… When we crossed the finish line I took some sweaty pictures before heading home in what I’m referring to as my “post race gift”, a taxi.

aj3

Musicals aren’t really my thing but when I got invited to see  the musical production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Rufus Hound and Robert Lindsey, I couldn’t resist. I went along with comedian Joe Lycett and what I was initially dreading turned out to be a really fun show. It was fantastically camp, hilarious throughout and Rufus Hound sings in it… Like, really well! Who knew?!

In other news, I popped along to the London Gay Pride parade on Saturday and participated with campaigners, students, health organisers, friends in what was a very special day. There were dance and street artists performing, really impressive floats and I met a man who had the most amazing head piece on. I need it!

Cheerio!

Festifeel-ing it and a bike ride like the movies

So last week included fun, music and boobs as I headed to Festifeel, a festival organised by breast cancer awareness charity, Coppafeel. It was curated by Fearne Cotton so naturally there was a cracking line up of acts including Zane Lowe, Swim Deep, Rizzle Kicks and so many more. I even managed to cup Lianne La Havas’s jugs so yes…be jealous.

From boobs to bikes I finally embarked on my 71-mile bike ride with my friend James Hill, in order to raise money for Action Medical Research. Weeks of preparation obviously paid off as neither I nor James broke a sweat! OK that’s a lie but the Chiltern Hills in Oxfordshire were so beautiful that at times, I thought I was on the set of a rom/com movie!

Festifeel

Festifeel

The hill climbs were tough, and being in the countryside did prompt a few major hay fever episodes but knowing that we were doing it for such a great cause was motivation enough.

At the end of the 8.5 hour cycle I was left with a medal, a huge pat on the back, nostrils filled with pollen and one very sore bottom, not to mention all of your donations. Thanks for everyone’s support so far.

In other news, my Hoxton Radio show is in full swing so tune and listen live every Wednesday 1-3pm.

Tarrah for now.

Kicking off the World Cup at a pink-themed pop-up bar

Untitled-1
Struggling to fit your beauty regime around the World Cup? Fear not. Benefit Cosmetics have got it sussed. I attended the launch of their pop up pub for women in Covent Garden, which will be showing all World Cup games. It’s not explicitly for girls, I chatted to Jim Chapman there for example, but it is feminine to say the least. Pink dart boards, pink football tables all whilst getting your hair and make up done. Football, pub, grub and make up? Goal!

Untitled-2

Then, providing the beautiful footwear was Schuh at their very own house party. Annie Mac’s Mac n Cheese, photo booths, great tunes, the football was on (of course) and there was even a waterfall of trainers! What’s not to love about that?

Untitled-3

Next stop, Barcelona! Despite the obvious temptation of lying on a beach with a cocktail all day, I’ve actually managed to squeeze in some lovely bike rides and runs in preparation for my DIVA bike ride for Action Medical Research this Sunday. Pat on the back for me!

Thanks to all who have sponsored my 70 odd mile cycle challenge so far. Please continue to do so.

Lots of tapas flavoured love.

I got to meet the beautiful Lily Cole this week for a great cause

aj2

This week I managed to squeeze in a Bodyism work out session at my local gym in preparation for my 76 mile DIVA bike ride in less than 20 days. EEK! I’m definitely getting stronger; I achieved my first ever pull up this week so obviously I made sure I had photographic evidence of this. Girl power!

I also popped along to Hoxton Hotel to chat to the beautiful Lily Cole about her partnership with ethical footwear label Veja to create a lovely range of trainers.

aj1

Drawing inspiration from her time in the Amazon, Lily has created a range of kicks that are not only at one with nature, but they’re fun and pretty too. What’s more is that £10 from each pair bought goes straight to the Rainforest Rescue Project. If that’s not a good excuse to go shopping, I don’t know what is. #tapfortrainers

aj3

You can watch footage from today’s launch right here on my YouTube channel.

In other news, I’m proud to announce that I will now be part of the Hoxton Radio family with my own radio show launching this Wednesday from 1-3pm. Tune in and send all your music playlist requests to me s’il vouz plait. Have a great week.

Tarrah,

Wondering who my secret admirer is…

photo-2-(18)

I totally got to see the Arctic Monkeys headline at Finsbury Park in London on Saturday night. They were supported by a great bill; Tame Impala, Royal Blood and Miles Kane, who between them had enough hits and cheeky winks to make the crowd quite literally go wild. I was apart of that untamed group. I’ve not moshed and headbanged like that since I was at school. At one point I was even crowd surfing as though it was my gig! The vibes were just as good back stage, hanging out with Dynamo to finish off the fun affair. Magical!

The very next night I saw the Artful Dodgers play the best old school, garage set ever so come yesterday I needed to perk myself up. After all, I’ve got a 76mile DIVA cycle to be fit for. Here’s my post festival and bank holiday food tip: eat a low fat, high protein meal.

photo-1-(15)

I bunged pollock wrapped in bacon in the oven for 15mins and served with a load of fresh veg, lemon zest and thyme. Yummy.

In other news, I got some flowers from a secret admirer today so if you’re readying this, thanks for the roses…who are you? Mum?!

Tarrah for now,

Getting into spinning with Victoria Pendleton

As the countdown to my 76 mile cycle for Action Medical Research continues, so too do my extra workout routines. Last week I took to the bike saddle with a couple of spin classes at my local Fitness First gym and trained with my new fitness BFF, Tabata.

If you haven’t tried spinning yet or didn’t like it the first time round, here are 3 reasons why I think spinning will spin you into a fitness frenzy.

1. Spinning is a low impact cardio exercise so it’s good for your joints as you’re not putting pressure on them.

2. It burns up to 600 calories per hour class. Wahoo!

3. It’s fun (well at least for me it is)!

Check out the time I did a spin class with Victoria Pendleton on my YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/ajodudu

aj1

Now on to my new bestie, Tabata. It’s perfect if you’re short of time and in need of a quick, killer session as, in a nutshell, Tabata is a four minute workout. Be warned though, it’s not for the faint-hearted.

It’s four minutes of pain followed by four minutes of pain followed by (you get the gist). I was sweating immediately and sore for days but it was definitely worth it. I can’t believe I’ve not tried it before. I’ll be as fit as a fiddle in no time (well…in four minutes). It’s perfect prep for my DIVA bike ride.

Don’t forget to donate and get involved with the great cause that I’m cycling for Action Medical Research www.action.org.uk.

Tarrah for now,

Girl power: we really did ‘own the night’

aj1

On Saturday I took part in Nike’s We Own The Night 10K run, where thousands of women joined to celebrate running, music and friendship. Although it was an all female run, I spotted a few men hustling in on the action, showing their support for us ladies. The atmosphere was brilliant with live music, DJs, light shows and food and drink stalls everywhere, giving the event pure festival vibes. We even had rain and mud to go with it! I quickly established my running buddy as Georgie Oakell, who was hosting the event with her Fox Problem crew, Gemma Cairney and Georgie LA. We faced stiff competition at the start line from marathon world record holder, Paula Radcliffe, who unsurprisingly we failed to keep up with. Digitally, we were able to keep track of our precise racing times with an electronic chip, something I stupidly forgot to put on. Regardless, I crossed the finish and claimed my beautiful medal designed by Henry Holland and Alex Monroe, probably the first ever medal I can wear every day! Nick Grimshaw took to the decks at the after-party, ensuring that we really did, own the night. Girl power!

aj2

Nike’s 10K was a great start to the preparation for my next challenge as I take on the Chiltern DIVA 76 mile bike ride to raise money for Action Medical Research, a charity that changes the lives of sick babies. Over the years, Action Medical research has played a pivotal part in some key medical breakthroughs so I want to do the charity justice and finish the race on June 22nd. To make this happen, I’ll be doing a series of training sessions in the lead up to ensure that I don’t pass out half way through. Follow my plan on the fitness page of my website www.ajodudu.com and right here of course. You can join me or donate by visiting www.action.org.uk.

Wish me luck!

I got my hands on a dress pre-owned by Annie Mac at the jumble sale

aj1

I absolutely love a jumble sale and Radio 1′s Gemma Cairney and the Music Circle organised a cracking one at the weekend in association with Oxfam, called Rumble in the Jumble 3. At the Oval Space in London, you could bag yourself brand new items from the likes of Schuh, Dr Marten, ASOS, Whistles and Topshop at low prices, sift through heaps of clothes from the likes of Tinnie Tempah, Jessie Ware, Rudimental and Jameela Jamil, get your make-up done by Smashbox and all this before taking a cake and cocktail pit stop. Bliss.

aj2

Throughout the day I helped Caroline Flack flog loads of stuff from her stall which was a lot of fun and despite the fact that I wasn’t there to shop, I ended up buying a dress pre-owned by Annie Mac, some flowery Dr Marten’s and a lovely pair of mens golf shorts which yes, I am planning to wear.

aj3

Whilst it was amazing to bag myself some bargains, listen to great DJ sets, take silly pictures, drink cocktails and eat cake all day, the best thing about the entire event was that actually, together we helped raise over £23,000 for women in the Democratic Republic of Congo and they are still counting. For that reason alone it was the best jumble sale ever. So to everyone that came to say hi, shop, donate, eat and play, thank you. Those jumble pennies really did make pounds!

Happy Easter!

photo 1

From the Selfie pictures to the Selfie song, it’s fair to say that the World’s gone selfie mad and I’m loving it. Naturally, I popped down to FCUK’s #CantHelpMySelfie launch party in London where it was great to see so many pretty faces like Sarah Jane Crawford, A.M.E and my current hairsipirations, Neon Jungle. Just look at these big, multicoloured haired beauties!

photo 2

In honour of the collection launch, it seemed fitting to have an actual selfie with Lilah Parsons, Ashley James, Pips Taylor and friends.

I’m currently at home in Blackburn where the actual Queen came to visit yesterday. She didn’t pop round for a brew (her loss) but there’s enough Easter eggs and hot cross buns to help get over that.
