Girl power: we really did ‘own the night’

aj1

On Saturday I took part in Nike’s We Own The Night 10K run, where thousands of women joined to celebrate running, music and friendship. Although it was an all female run, I spotted a few men hustling in on the action, showing their support for us ladies. The atmosphere was brilliant with live music, DJs, light shows and food and drink stalls everywhere, giving the event pure festival vibes. We even had rain and mud to go with it! I quickly established my running buddy as Georgie Oakell, who was hosting the event with her Fox Problem crew, Gemma Cairney and Georgie LA. We faced stiff competition at the start line from marathon world record holder, Paula Radcliffe, who unsurprisingly we failed to keep up with. Digitally, we were able to keep track of our precise racing times with an electronic chip, something I stupidly forgot to put on. Regardless, I crossed the finish and claimed my beautiful medal designed by Henry Holland and Alex Monroe, probably the first ever medal I can wear every day! Nick Grimshaw took to the decks at the after-party, ensuring that we really did, own the night. Girl power!

aj2

Nike’s 10K was a great start to the preparation for my next challenge as I take on the Chiltern DIVA 76 mile bike ride to raise money for Action Medical Research, a charity that changes the lives of sick babies. Over the years, Action Medical research has played a pivotal part in some key medical breakthroughs so I want to do the charity justice and finish the race on June 22nd. To make this happen, I’ll be doing a series of training sessions in the lead up to ensure that I don’t pass out half way through. Follow my plan on the fitness page of my website www.ajodudu.com and right here of course. You can join me or donate by visiting www.action.org.uk.

Wish me luck!

I got my hands on a dress pre-owned by Annie Mac at the jumble sale

aj1

I absolutely love a jumble sale and Radio 1′s Gemma Cairney and the Music Circle organised a cracking one at the weekend in association with Oxfam, called Rumble in the Jumble 3. At the Oval Space in London, you could bag yourself brand new items from the likes of Schuh, Dr Marten, ASOS, Whistles and Topshop at low prices, sift through heaps of clothes from the likes of Tinnie Tempah, Jessie Ware, Rudimental and Jameela Jamil, get your make-up done by Smashbox and all this before taking a cake and cocktail pit stop. Bliss.

aj2

Throughout the day I helped Caroline Flack flog loads of stuff from her stall which was a lot of fun and despite the fact that I wasn’t there to shop, I ended up buying a dress pre-owned by Annie Mac, some flowery Dr Marten’s and a lovely pair of mens golf shorts which yes, I am planning to wear.

aj3

Whilst it was amazing to bag myself some bargains, listen to great DJ sets, take silly pictures, drink cocktails and eat cake all day, the best thing about the entire event was that actually, together we helped raise over £23,000 for women in the Democratic Republic of Congo and they are still counting. For that reason alone it was the best jumble sale ever. So to everyone that came to say hi, shop, donate, eat and play, thank you. Those jumble pennies really did make pounds!

Happy Easter!

photo 1

From the Selfie pictures to the Selfie song, it’s fair to say that the World’s gone selfie mad and I’m loving it. Naturally, I popped down to FCUK’s #CantHelpMySelfie launch party in London where it was great to see so many pretty faces like Sarah Jane Crawford, A.M.E and my current hairsipirations, Neon Jungle. Just look at these big, multicoloured haired beauties!

photo 2

In honour of the collection launch, it seemed fitting to have an actual selfie with Lilah Parsons, Ashley James, Pips Taylor and friends.

I’m currently at home in Blackburn where the actual Queen came to visit yesterday. She didn’t pop round for a brew (her loss) but there’s enough Easter eggs and hot cross buns to help get over that.

Loved seeing all the talent at The Young Scot Awards

aj2

Last week was a bit of a whirl wind. One minute I was watching my favourite rock ‘in’ indie band the New York Tourists play an amazing set in East London, the next I was at The Young Scot Awards in Glasgow with Ashley James, Dane Bowers and Elyar Fox. The awards were held to showcase the finest young talent Scotland has to offer and to celebrate their outstanding achievements. A pleasure to be there.

aj3

After a whistle stop at Fake Bake Boutique to get beautified, I went to Edinburgh for my friend’s hen weekend. It’s always nice to see my best mates from home, not to mention embracing all things Scottish: the haggis, the bag pipes, even the kilts, all before getting glammed up and heading out. Here’s one of my trusty Celeb Boutique numbers from the weekend; so nice I’ve actually worn it twice (sshhh).

Gutted Robbie Williams didn’t stay for long at the Artist and Manager Awards

This week saw me attend the Artist and Manager Awards in East London venue, The Troxy, held yearly to celebrate creativity in the music industry. I’ve got to be honest, I walked in to what initially looked like a bingo hall but luckily there was nobody bellowing, “2 fat ladies, 88″ but instead, performances by Rixton, We Were Evergreen and the wonderful Jools Holland. Robbie Williams made a moving speech when he won the Artists’ Artist awards followed by a swift exit. Gutted!

aj1

I’ve always been a fan of TED talks because of their selection of speakers discussing varied topics that genuinely matter to me, so when I was invited to attend TEDx at The Yard Theatre in Hackney, I jumped at the opportunity. The discussion point was Radical Beauty and the most moving speeches for me personally came from Afro-American, Shaun Ross, the first male Albino model and Leyla Hussein who actively protects women from FGM. As you can imagine their words were raw and personal which was humbling to witness but my other favourite speeches came from Philippa Perry who highlighted the importance of small talk (and I love a chit-chat), Halim Madi who encouraged us to enjoy all things (even urinating), and The Chalkwell Ladies Drum ‘n’ Bass League; two woman of the older generation who refuse to sit down and knit quietly but instead, DJ. Amazing! It all made for an exciting day which frankly speaking, at points felt like I was back at my university lecture hall, only this time there weren’t any exams. Wahey!

Baby Awards, Heston Blumenthal’s eye wear party and Magnum’s 25th

aj1

Last week was all about bambinos as I took to the stage at London’s Landmark Hotel to present at The Tommy’s Baby Awards. Tommy’s is a charity that supports families with pregnancy complications so I knew it was going to be an emotional day but thanks to Tommy’s research the future looks more positive and that was definitely recognised in the room. First, I bumped into Percy Pig, an act which made all my nieces envious and then I met Katy Hill, who I used to watch on Blue Peter when I was a little girl myself. Before long I was giggling with sassy Scot presenters and DJs The Mac Twins before handing out personal awards, the stories behind which were truly amazing.

aj2

I wanted to wear something bright and colourful to take advantage of the sunshine, so I opted for this matching two piece from Spotted On Celeb. To find out about Tommy’s and ways you can get involved with this wonderful charity go to www.Tommys.org.

aj3

From Awards to frames I attended Heston Blumenthal’s eye wear launch party at Vision Express. I was really looking forward to my trip to the opticians. After all, if it was going to be anything like Heston’s cooking, the frames may have shot mini jets of liquid nitrogen from the hinges or something equally as cool. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case but his frames were ace and as you can see, we took ourselves and our vision very seriously indeed.

aj4

Magnum ice cream teamed up with Henry Holland to celebrate its 25th birthday. Chocolate dresses, chocolate ice creams and just chocolate everywhere. Not a good one for the waist line but I still wore a dress by ZDDZ London and whilst managing not to drip any ice cream down it. Result.

aj5

Finally, Italian fashion brand Freddy hosted an exclusive party at their new King’s Road store to celebrate the launch of the WR.UP pants. The event featured an old school music DJ set from Sophie Ellis Bextor and I chatted to the gorgeous Vogue Williams and Arielle Free whilst sporting Freddy’s Camo Pants which I love. More camo, more ammo!

Sport Relief run with Rylan and a night out with Vanessa from The Saturdays

3

Yesterday I ran six miles for Sport Relief. I was so excited. I love a run and doing it for a great cause made it all the better. There’s something about running in front of a crowd that makes you go that little bit faster (six miles in 40 mins athanku) and for memorabilia purposes I took a pre-race selfie with my pals Rylan Clarke and Clara Amfo with Louis Spence, singer Tich and Blue Peter presenter Lindsey Russell. I felt rough but there’s simply nothing a picture taken at arm’s length in direct sunlight with a 1970s Instagram filter can’t fix (I hope).

5

Post race I peddled for milkshake, showed off my medal at the Sainsbury’s Fair Trade pancake stand and for reasons that are yet to be made clear to me, I even became an air hostess.

4

As with all of these things, the crowds were the heroes of the day cheering everyone along and giving generously. I saw people running in bumble bee and banana outfits which kept me well and truly amused. Naturally.

Before that I had a glam night out courtesy of Very.co.uk who were flaunting their new collection. It featured some amazing pieces that will be coming soon on the fashion page of my website, www.ajodudu.com. Very even spoilt us with Babylis and nails inc beauty stations, along with my favourite day of the week, Vanessa White from The Saturdays. Bliss.

1

Finally, here’s an exclusive sneak peak at what I was filming last week with The Digital Fairy and ES magazine writer, Nimrod Kamer. It’s going to be hilarious.

Doing the Brutal10 mudstacle and raising money for Sport Relief

aj3

This week was all about extremes. First, I took to the decks in a North London bar, The Driver, to do an exclusive DJ set for a private party until the early hours of the morning. I played all things poptastic from Madonna to Jason Durulo, Kylie Minogue to Miley Cyrus. Song of the night? Gypsy Woman by Crystal Waters. Went down a treat.

aj1

No rest for the wicked as I rose at 6am to take part in my first ever mudstacle, Brutal10. The clue was in the title; it was incredibly tough. I was wading through deep swamps, crawling up steep hills, splashing through water, running on sand – it was non-stop torture with battle wounds to prove. I’m talking blisters, scratches, bruises, the lot! I surprisingly had loads of fun though and documented the whole event so keep an eye on my channel to see the full works, www.youtube.com/ajodudu.

aj2

At this point I ought to have gone to bed but after a quick change of gym wear, I popped on my lightweight Reebok kicks and headed to a Reebok Fithub to help raise money for Sports Relief by running on a treadmill for an hour, with members of the public cheering me on and watching me sweat. It was wonderful to be taking part for such a great cause and help raise £24,000. There’s still time to donate! Visit www.sportrelief.com for details.

aj4

I knew I was going to have a hectic time which is why I did a three day detox at the beginning of the week to cleanse and flush out all my toxins. It made me feel fresh and eager to put healthy things back into my system for my busy week ahead. Definitely worth trying a Juicetou detox.

Hanging with Grimmy, seeing Disclosure live and singing along to Beyoncé in concert

aj1

What do you do on a sunny Sunday morning in London? Lie in bed? Watch TV? Lounge about before having a Sunday roast? All are the correct answer but I actually spent yesterday morning sparring with heavyweight boxing champion David Haye at his Hayemaker Camp in London. The good thing was that obviously I was training with a pro and so getting the best workout ever. This puts me in perfect stead for my first every Brutal10 mudstacle this Saturday and for Sport Relief in a couple of weeks. I also managed to walk out of the ring with my nose still intact whilst making my five brothers very jealous. A huge plus! I’m feeling the pain today but having a one-on-one boxing match with David Haye just like Tinnie Tempah has done previously and MIC star, Spencer Mathews did too, I’ve woken up feeling like a champion, even if I am a little tender.

aj2 I can pack a punch too David Haye!

My stint in the ring came right after a week of music and filming. I filmed at a mystery location for a mystery TV programme. Arh the suspense of telly means that I’m sworn to secrecy but it’s very exciting. Here are some behind the scenes snaps. Just remember… I’m werking not twerking.

aj3

I also went to see Beyoncé who was obviously incredible. She got changed at least six times, didn’t stop dancing and even managed to incorporate Pac Man into her concert! I couldn’t believe how many songs she got through, Cameo’s hit Candy sampled in her single Blow and Jay Z came out (which I knew was going to happen but I still screamed like a little girl). She belted out I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston, a seamless segue into her emotional song Heaven and all this whilst creating an immense sense of female empowerment throughout. The woman’s a capital G (for Genius) whilst I’m just a capital C (for croaky)! Next time I’ll leave the singing to Beyoncé.

aj4

Unsurprisingly there were less outfit changes at the Disclosure gig at Alexandra Palace on Saturday but joining them on stage was Eliza Doolittle, Sasha Keable, Aluna George and Sam Smith. What a musical delight! It was amazing. I even bumped into the lovely Nick Grimshaw after, where we talked excitedly about Disclosure AND Beyoncé before puckering up for the camera. Aww.

Appearing on telly, ‘being’ at Paris Fashion Week and hitting the DJ decks

aj 1

I’ve had more fun than you can shake a stick at this week. I appeared on the Alan Titchmarsh show with Frank Bruno, Charlie from Kiss 100, The Olympic Curling Team and Myleene Klass. What a line up eh?! Being that my parents are big fans of the show I was pleased to be participating on the debate feature of the show to discuss whether or not sunglasses were acceptable to wear indoors. Yes, that’s right, I tackle all the important issues on the telly and putting up a cracking argument against the use of them inside (you look like a Muppet) I won. Victorious and feeling glorious in my brighter than bright Spotted on Celeb orange dress and super high pony tail (which yes, gave me a banging headache but was so worth it for a bit of day time glamour), I hurried off to Paris.

aj-5

Well…sort of. Paris Fashion week is well underway and the H&M AW14 show took place at the Grand Palais, seeing the beauties Jourdan Dunn, Solange Knowles and Miranda Kerr all FROWing so H&M invited me along to their London HQ for a screening of the big event.

aj 3

Let’s face it, front row seats from their showroom in London was much easier than catching the Eurostar and loads of fun too as I got to natter with former MIC star Ashley James and ex-TOWIE lass, Lydia Bright, not to mention getting a taxi back and hopping straight into my own bed. J’adore!

aj 4

Then Friday night was all right with a 90s pop and RnB DJ set performed by none other than yours truly at club Oslo in Hackney. Yes, I took to the decks to play classic songs that took the crowd on a trip down memory lane, with my personal favourite nostalgic tunes coming from Tina Moore, Sweet Female Attitude and R Kelly. You’ve gotta love that right? I’m still bopping away.

aj 6

I wore a Textile Federation two piece, dance friendly Topshop shoes and that headache inducing high ponytail (again). Perfect DJ attire if you ask me. Hope you liked it?
