Yves Saint Laurent The Movie

Fashion lovers rejoice, everything you ever wanted to know about the genius that was Yves Saint Laurent is presented to you in this wonderful film.

It follows the designer as he attempts to democratise fashion against the backdrop of Sixties’ liberation, battling his personal demons to build an empire that would be renowned for liberating women all over the world.

Tournage YSL

I never met a YSL design I didn’t like so this film is going to be fodder for a great girl’s night out.

Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Lip Stain

If you have trouble choosing between lipstick, lip gloss and lip stains, this is the product for you.

For reasons unbeknownst to even myself, I’ve always shied away from lipstick, instead opting for lip gloss. I now think that a barely there glossy lip is more of a young woman’s game and/or is best suited to a more casual look.

As I ease myself into the colourful world of lipstick, YSL glossy lip stains are the perfect product. I have the shimmer of a gloss with the medium coverage of a lipstick and the staying power of a lip stain.

Even though my lips are naturally quite dark, the YSL glossy stain in 26 Violine Surrealiste (a plummy purple) gives good coverage so the colour is true, gives the shine of a gloss without stickiness or the dreaded liplash (strands of hair caught in your lip gloss) combined with the moisturising properties of a lipstick.

As with all YSL products, the packing is lovely; these stains are part of the YSL vintage collection so they have a slightly old school feel to them. They also smell wonderful.

The stains come in six colours:

21 Orange Fusion
22 Prune Minimale
23 Fuschia Cubiste
24 Fuschia Intemporel
25 Fuschia Neo-Classic
26 Violine Surrealiste

so you are sure to find a shade to suit you.

YSL Beauty Christmas 2012: Boréal Palette Arctic Night

The limited edition YSL Boréal Palette Arctic Night make up palette was inspired by the Aurora Borealis, or northern lights. The Creative Director at Yves Saint Laurent Beauty said they moved him to “create this collection of intense colours, shot through with violet and midnight blue and sprinkled with slivers of pearl, like a star-filled night.”

YSL beauty

As you’d expect from YSL, the packaging is beautiful and even the pouch the eye shadow palette comes with is just too nice to languish in your make up bag. It was inspired by vintage YSL dresses!

The colours work perfectly with brown skins and they can be applied wet for a more intense look. I wore them dry for a special occasion and they had great staying power. As I don’t usually wear such vibrant colours they garnered me a lot of ‘don’t your eyes look pretty’ type comments.

Lloyd Simmonds, Creative Director at Yves Saint Laurent Beauty says “there are many ways to use the Boréal Palette Arctic Night: create a smoky plum halo around the eyes with a touch of frosty blue at the inner corners, or apply the midnight blue in a smoky line along the upper lash line and sculpt a shadow in the hollows under the brow bone.”

These aren’t colours I would wear every day but for a special occasion they are perfect and they feel lovely against the skin. Get the palette as a gift for yourself or for a special someone in your life. She will love you forever for it!
