Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation

Call me backward, but I had no idea that Dolce & Gabbana did make up for brown skins!

The new Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation leaves you with a velvety matte look that has great staying power. I wore it all day and only needed one mini touch up.

The Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation range comes in 15 shades, starting at Classique for the English Rose. I think their colours most suitable for brown skins are as follows:

Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 148 Amber
Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 150 Almond
Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 160 Soft Tan
Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 170 Golden Honey
Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 180 Soft Sable

They say Perfect Matte Concealer 6 Soft Sand will best compliment these colours but I didn’t try it so you’ll have to go to the counter and see if it’s the right shade for you.

I tried the darkest shade, Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 180 Soft Sable and it matched my skin tone perfectly. I tested on the jaw line like you’re supposed to and it simply melted into my skin. It was a 100% colour match.

Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation gives medium to full coverage and even without concealer, does a great job at covering imperfections.

Make up maestro Pat McGrath is Creative Advisor at Dolce & Gabbana make up and she says: “The intelligent foundation formula achieves impeccable coverage for a classically perfect beauty look that lasts. Though the coverage is medium to high, the overall look is a more modern natural, soft matte that seamlessly adapts to and works with the skin.”

The packaging is beautiful (of course) and a little goes a long way so the bottle should last a while. When it comes to foundation, brands are starting to (finally) realise that providing for a large and diverse audience makes good commercial and ethical sense.

If you’re after a good quality medium to high coverage foundation, I recommend Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation.

Get the Look: Dolce & Gabbana at Milan Fashion Week

It’s no secret that we are huge fans of the work of make up artist Pat McGrath; her work for a variety of beauty brands is nothing short of inspiring.

Pat has been running around New York, London and now Milan to work at what I like to call Fashion Month. She was at Dolce & Gabbana on Sunday night and we got the low down on the beauty tools and products she used at their very Catholic-esque show.

A good face always starts with a flawless base and to accomplish that, Pat applied a mix of Perfect Luminous and Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation (review here) using the Foundation Brush . Start with a small amount of both foundations applied to the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin and blend it from the central point of the face outward until the product flows seamlessly to the hairline and jaw.

Use Perfect Matte Concealer to add extra coverage and achieve an illuminated natural look. Finally, Pat applied Powder Foundation focusing on the forehead to perfect the look.

For eyes, Pat applied the eye shadow quad in Desert in layers followed by the eyeliner in Black to create a deep and mysterious look. The glam liner in Black Intense was then added on top of the lash line to add further definition. Lastly, two layers of intenseyes mascara were applied to really elongate the lashes.

On the lips, Pat used the lip liner in Ruby followed by lipsticks in both Ultra and Amethyst. The colour was applied with greater intensity at the Cupid’s bow for better definition and to really emphasize the mouth.

To complement the look Pat chose the nail lacquer in Nude for a final touch of luxury.

I love this look; it’s sexy and glamorous without being too in your face, and thanks to the steps above, something that can be easily recreated at home.

Get the Look: Scarlett Johansson

I love everything about this look from Scarlett Johansson; the subtle smoky eye, the vibrant red lip, the flawless skin – everything is working!

"Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" Broadway Opening Night - After Party

As the face of Dolce&Gabbana makeup and fragrance, lucky Scarlett has access, not only to their amazing clothes, but also their gorgeous make up.

At the premiere of her new Broadway show, ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ in New York earlier this month, Scarlett was in full on Dolce&Gabbana mode wearing the brand top to toe. Her makeup artist Gianpaolo Ceciliato said he used Dolce&Gabbana Perfect Luminous Liquid Foundation as a base to even out her skin tone followed by the mix of blush in Sole, Apricot and Mocha. He then focused on the eyes using the kohl pencil in True Black, the eye shadow quad in Bouquet and the Intenseyes Black Intensity Mascara mascara to lengthen and define lashes. On the lips she wore Passion duo lipstick in Tropical and Sheer Shine Gloss in Aqua. Nail wise she had on a bright red nail lacquer called Fire.

I was lucky enough to get my mitts on the Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Bouquet, the Intense Nail Lacquer in Fire and the Black Intensity Mascara.

I am a sucker for good mascara; I think it’s the most important make up purchase. If the rest of my face is working against me, I feel all is right in the world if my eyes look good. They are my favourite feature and even on my barest of makeup days, I always wear mascara. The Dolce&Gabbana Black Intensity Mascara is perfect for creating long, spidery, separated non clumpy lashes.

The Eye Colour Quad in Bouquet isn’t too loud so the colours could be worn to the office or applied with a heavier hand for a night out. The shadow feels rich, luxurious and creamy; these are some beautiful products!

The Intense Nail Lacquer in Fire has been aptly described; this is not a red for the shy among us! It’s a bright, shocking red and I love it. The packaging of all the Dolce&Gabbana products is beautiful; almost too nice to hide away in your cosmetics bag.

While I’m talking about Dolce&Gabbana, I had a smell of their latest fragrance Desire. With top notes of mandarin, lychee and bergamot, a heart of Madonna lily, Indian tuberose and plum nectar and base notes of vanilla infused caramel, sandalwood and Cistus Labdanum, this fragrance smells amazing. I got loads of ‘what’s that you’re wearing?’ when I wore it out and about this week and a spritz on both wrists in the morning still smelled great at the end of the day.

As I always say, while I can’t afford the brand’s clothes (yet!) I can satisfy my designer cravings by indulging in their gorgeous beauty products.
