NUXE Rose Petal Cleansing Range – from £12
Mature skin can be slightly more sensitive but this gorgeous range from French brand NUXE cleanses without stripping and leaves skin with a delicate rose scent. My favourite profucts are the Gentle Toning Lotion (£13.50) and the Micellar Water (£14.15). If she doesn’t know about double cleansing yet you need to teach her!

Clinique New Turnaround Concentrate – £32
New Turnaround Concentrate from Clinique has been upgraded with a formula that enhances the cell renewal and maturation process – for effective and visible results. Surface imperfections are reduced and skin is smoothed thanks to Chestnut Extract, Salicylic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) and Sodium Hyaluronate, capable of holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water.

L’Occitane Shea Butter Ultra Soft Cream – £18
L’Occitane launched this new collection of shea butter creams back in February but I think they’d make great gifts for Mum. Older skins tend to be drier and these creams (with 10% shea butter) nourish and moisturize without leaving the skin greasy.

Dolce&Gabbana Autumn/Winter Make Up Collection

I have made no secret of my admiration for Pat McGrath, make up maestro and Dolce&Gabbana Make Up creative advisor. This season it’s all about the classic and sexy smoky eye/nude lip combo and if we can’t rely on an Italian brand to get that right, all is lost!

The muse for the collection is eternal beauty Monica Belluci who designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana say ‘will always be the original Dolce& Gabbana woman; naturally, timelessly beautiful with an unwavering strength of character on the inside.”

The classic look works on practically every skin tone and, as it’s a trend that never goes out of fashion, it’s worth getting the best quality you can afford as you know you’ll get a good wear out of it.

To create the perfect smoky eye, world renowned makeup artist, Pat McGrath advises: “The Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Smoky is the perfect palette of light and hazy shades that can be layered to achieve a classic smoky eye. Apply the lighter ‘toned down’ shade for the day time but in the evening you can use the darkest shade and apply above the lash line which will add depth to the eyes and sockets to create a more noticeable definition. Next use a velvety soft kohl pencil like Graphite to add intensity. To complement the eyes and create a natural look that harmonises perfectly together, use the Voluptuous Lipstick in Nude Monica to achieve an extremely wearable lip with a sensual texture and look. Finally to finish, apply the stunning Nail Lacquer in Gentle which is incredibly feminine, and its damask rose shade creates a luxurious feel.”

Lips are key to the collection’s look and each Monica lipstick is encased in gold packaging featuring Monica’s name written in red on the case’s profile. There are three new natural shades:

Nude Monica, a refined buff
True Monica, a natural fleshy pink
Gentle Monica, a soft pale rose

The lipsticks’ smooth and creamy formula has skin conditioning ingredients to leave the lips feeling soft and looking plump. Each shade contains the signature Dolce&Gabbana lipstick scent of powdery rose. Complementing the lipsticks are lip liners in corresponding shades of Nude, Soft and Cashmere.

“Monica’s signature look works on many skin tones,” Pat continues. “To get the lips looking extra full, fill them in with lip liner first and then apply lipstick, Nude Monica suits darker skin, while pink-based Gentle Monica suits porcelain skin tones.”

I can’t promise you Belluci beauty but I can say the range will make you look and feel pretty darn sexy.

Prices start at £16.50 for an eye crayon.

Dolce & Gabbana Love in Taormina Collection

Ever since I discovered that A – Pat McGrath is Creative Advisor at Dolce & Gabbana make up and B – they do a great line of foundations for women of all colours, I’ve been all over their range.

One of my favourite products is a black kohl eye pencil; if anyone is going to get a sexy eye pencil right it’s going to be an Italian brand!

Their Love in Taormina nail lacquer collection contains colour pop bright hues inspired by the Spring/Summer 2013 catwalk. The lacquers have been named after Italian flowers: Bouganville a rich fuchsia with a touch of purple, Ibisco a dark pink with coral undertones, Oleandro a soft pearlescent pink, Iris a deep violet and Camelia a fluorescent coral.

I tried the high shine and matte top coats and the lacquers in Iris (my fave), Bouganville, Oleandro and Camelia (all £19).

l – r: Matte top coat, Iris, Bouganville, Oleandro, Camelia, High Shine top coat

They’ve outdone themselves top coat wise as you can choose between a high shine gel like finish or my favourite, a seriously sexy matte. High Shine top lacquer contains diamond powder to infuse strength into the nails and achieve a mirror-like shine, maintaining the colour and lengthening the wear of your favourite lacquer shade; while the Matte top lacquer dries to a velvety matte effect, to simultaneously preserve the colour and wear.

Creative Advisor, Pat McGrath says: “I like to use colours that really pop for maximum impact, such as Iris on the base of the nail and then the tip in Ibisco. Then, play with texture by applying first the matte top coat and then the high shine top coat on the fuchsia tip.”

We bow to your wisdom Ms McGrath!

All lacquers £19. Available from Harrods (in store and online).

Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation

Call me backward, but I had no idea that Dolce & Gabbana did make up for brown skins!

The new Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation leaves you with a velvety matte look that has great staying power. I wore it all day and only needed one mini touch up.

The Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation range comes in 15 shades, starting at Classique for the English Rose. I think their colours most suitable for brown skins are as follows:

Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 148 Amber
Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 150 Almond
Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 160 Soft Tan
Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 170 Golden Honey
Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 180 Soft Sable

They say Perfect Matte Concealer 6 Soft Sand will best compliment these colours but I didn’t try it so you’ll have to go to the counter and see if it’s the right shade for you.

I tried the darkest shade, Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation 180 Soft Sable and it matched my skin tone perfectly. I tested on the jaw line like you’re supposed to and it simply melted into my skin. It was a 100% colour match.

Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation gives medium to full coverage and even without concealer, does a great job at covering imperfections.

Make up maestro Pat McGrath is Creative Advisor at Dolce & Gabbana make up and she says: “The intelligent foundation formula achieves impeccable coverage for a classically perfect beauty look that lasts. Though the coverage is medium to high, the overall look is a more modern natural, soft matte that seamlessly adapts to and works with the skin.”

The packaging is beautiful (of course) and a little goes a long way so the bottle should last a while. When it comes to foundation, brands are starting to (finally) realise that providing for a large and diverse audience makes good commercial and ethical sense.

If you’re after a good quality medium to high coverage foundation, I recommend Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation.

Get the Look: Dolce & Gabbana at Milan Fashion Week

It’s no secret that we are huge fans of the work of make up artist Pat McGrath; her work for a variety of beauty brands is nothing short of inspiring.

Pat has been running around New York, London and now Milan to work at what I like to call Fashion Month. She was at Dolce & Gabbana on Sunday night and we got the low down on the beauty tools and products she used at their very Catholic-esque show.

A good face always starts with a flawless base and to accomplish that, Pat applied a mix of Perfect Luminous and Perfect Matte Liquid Foundation (review here) using the Foundation Brush . Start with a small amount of both foundations applied to the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin and blend it from the central point of the face outward until the product flows seamlessly to the hairline and jaw.

Dolce&Gabbana Make Up Look 1

Use Perfect Matte Concealer to add extra coverage and achieve an illuminated natural look. Finally, Pat applied Powder Foundation focusing on the forehead to perfect the look.

For eyes, Pat applied the eye shadow quad in Desert in layers followed by the eyeliner in Black to create a deep and mysterious look. The glam liner in Black Intense was then added on top of the lash line to add further definition. Lastly, two layers of intenseyes mascara were applied to really elongate the lashes.

Dolce&Gabana Make Up Look 3

On the lips, Pat used the lip liner in Ruby followed by lipsticks in both Ultra and Amethyst. The colour was applied with greater intensity at the Cupid’s bow for better definition and to really emphasize the mouth.

To complement the look Pat chose the nail lacquer in Nude for a final touch of luxury.

I love this look; it’s sexy and glamorous without being too in your face, and thanks to the steps above, something that can be easily recreated at home.

Get the Look: Scarlett Johansson

I love everything about this look from Scarlett Johansson; the subtle smoky eye, the vibrant red lip, the flawless skin – everything is working!

"Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" Broadway Opening Night - After Party

As the face of Dolce&Gabbana makeup and fragrance, lucky Scarlett has access, not only to their amazing clothes, but also their gorgeous make up.

At the premiere of her new Broadway show, ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ in New York earlier this month, Scarlett was in full on Dolce&Gabbana mode wearing the brand top to toe. Her makeup artist Gianpaolo Ceciliato said he used Dolce&Gabbana Perfect Luminous Liquid Foundation as a base to even out her skin tone followed by the mix of blush in Sole, Apricot and Mocha. He then focused on the eyes using the kohl pencil in True Black, the eye shadow quad in Bouquet and the Intenseyes Black Intensity Mascara mascara to lengthen and define lashes. On the lips she wore Passion duo lipstick in Tropical and Sheer Shine Gloss in Aqua. Nail wise she had on a bright red nail lacquer called Fire.

Eye Colour Quad in Bouquet

Eye Colour Quad in Bouquet

I was lucky enough to get my mitts on the Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Bouquet, the Intense Nail Lacquer in Fire and the Black Intensity Mascara.

I am a sucker for good mascara; I think it’s the most important make up purchase. If the rest of my face is working against me, I feel all is right in the world if my eyes look good. They are my favourite feature and even on my barest of makeup days, I always wear mascara. The Dolce&Gabbana Black Intensity Mascara is perfect for creating long, spidery, separated non clumpy lashes.

Black Intensity Mascara

The Eye Colour Quad in Bouquet isn’t too loud so the colours could be worn to the office or applied with a heavier hand for a night out. The shadow feels rich, luxurious and creamy; these are some beautiful products!

The Intense Nail Lacquer in Fire has been aptly described; this is not a red for the shy among us! It’s a bright, shocking red and I love it. The packaging of all the Dolce&Gabbana products is beautiful; almost too nice to hide away in your cosmetics bag.

While I’m talking about Dolce&Gabbana, I had a smell of their latest fragrance Desire. With top notes of mandarin, lychee and bergamot, a heart of Madonna lily, Indian tuberose and plum nectar and base notes of vanilla infused caramel, sandalwood and Cistus Labdanum, this fragrance smells amazing. I got loads of ‘what’s that you’re wearing?’ when I wore it out and about this week and a spritz on both wrists in the morning still smelled great at the end of the day.

As I always say, while I can’t afford the brand’s clothes (yet!) I can satisfy my designer cravings by indulging in their gorgeous beauty products.

Desire by Dolce&Gabbana Eau de Parfum – £45/30ml – launched exclusively in Harrods on 22nd January and will be available nationwide from 27th February. Find make up stockists at
