CO YO Coconut Milk Yoghurt

If you’re intolerant to everything (like me) or simply want to enjoy a genuinely good for you yummy treat, you need Co Yo in your fridge and in your life.

CO YO Coconut Milk Yoghurt is made from 98% pure coconut and the only non-dairy fresh yoghurt available that is not made from soya. I’ve been having soya yoghurt for breakfast for the past ten years so the change was more than welcomed!

Each 100g pot contains one whole coconut and is 100% dairy free, gluten free, lactose free and soya free. Despite all this, it tastes absolutely wonderful! I’ve not on board the coconut water bandwagon yet as I drank some fresh out of the coconut on one Caribbean holiday and was swiftly put off. I’m really not a huge coconut fan but despite being almost 100% coconut, Co Yo isn’t overpowering thanks to the range of flavours available; pineapple mixed berry, coconut, mango and vanilla (coming soon).

Co Yo is rich and creamy and unless you are used to eating ‘free from’ you might not appreciate how rare that is! Most free from products are crammed full of sugar to make them palatable but not only is Co Yo sugar free, each 100g pot has less than 200 calories.

My son, sister and 2 year old nephew are also dairy intolerant so I thought I’d let them have a taste test. My nephew ate the chocolate one straight out of the pot (with his fingers at one point) and cried when his mum tried to have a spoonful. He was inconsolable when the pot was finished too! My son preferred it the way I eat it for breakfast; with mixed berries and toasted millet and buckwheat flakes.

Another thing I like about Co Yo is that are surprisingly filling. Considering a pot is only 100g, it locks hunger away for ages; I ate a pot at 11 am and wasn’t hungry again until 4 pm!

Although coconuts have been used in West Indian cooking for years, the Western world is only recently starting to appreciate the fruit. It is known for:

  • Improving digestion and absorption of other nutrients including vitamins, minerals and amino acids
  • Speeding up the metabolism, aiding weight loss
  • Boosting energy as it contains medium chain fatty acids that are used in the body in different ways to normal fat. Rather than being stored as fat, these fatty acids boost energy and the immune system.

Even if you don’t have to eat ‘free from’ I recommend you give Co Yo a try.

£1.99 for 125g, £3.49 for 250g and £5.00 for a 400g pot. Available from Wholefoods, Planet Organic, Ocado and independent health food stores.
