Mark Fast x Bare Minerals @ LFW S/S 2014

BareMinerals International Make-up Artist Sarah-Jane Froom was responsible for the beauty looks at the Mark Fast Spring/Summer 2014 show and we spoke to her on how to achieve the look at home using bareMinerals.

The Mark Fast collection celebrates the spirit of youth; a beauty look where punk meets gothic chic. The models had dewy skin paired with light, bright eyes and a heavy focus on the lip.

Complexion wise, Sara-Jane said: “For blush I wanted more of a flushed stained look, so I buffed on bareMinerals ready blush in the confession, not too much, just a pop of colour for a flushed effect. This look is all about the lips so I wanted to keep the skin simple and flawless.”

Deep, plum lips are not for the faint of heart! Sarah-Jane said: “This was a really cool lip look to create, we had a lot of fun! The lips were lined with Marvelous Moxie Lipliner in Exhilarated, topped up with Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Lead The Way. This was blotted down, lined and filled with Round The Clock Eyeliner in Midnight to follow Marks gothic inspired creations. We added bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow in Mirage and topped this with Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Dare Devil. The combination gave a petrol, PVC, oil slick effect.”

Follow these steps to get the catwalk look at home:

  • Prep skin with bareMinerals skincare, such as the Purely Nourishing Moisturiser and Prime Time Original Primer
  • Follow by building the perfect complexion using bareMinerals Original SPF15 Foundation
  • Add bareMinerals READY Bronzer in The High Dive
  • Apply bareMinerals Prime Time Eyelid Primer from the lash line to brow, follow by buffing 500 Thread Count from ‘The Dream Sequence’ READY Eyeshadow Quad under the brow bone
  • Add two coats of bareMinerals Lash Domination 10-in-1 Volumizing Mascara
  • Groom and define Brows with bareMinerals Frame & Define Brow Styler
  • Pop the apples of the cheeks with bareMinerals READY Blush in The Confession
  • Line the lips with Marvelous Moxie Lipliner in Electrified
  • Top up with Marvelous Moxie Lipcolour in Lead The Way
  • Buff on Mirage from ‘The Vision’ READY® Eyeshadow Duo over the lips
  • Finish with a slick of Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Dare Devil.

Ted Baker Treasured Obsessions

Like most ladies I love a little bath time indulgence so was very pleased to try the new Treasured Obsessions collection from Ted Baker.

Inspired by Ted’s latest fashion collection, the collection is made up of Bath Foam, Body Wash, Body Soufflé, Body Spray, a Treasure For Treasure Gift Box and an Opulent Orchid Gift Set.

I tried the Treasure For Treasure Gift Box which contains a Body Soufflé, the Body Wash and a lathering puff.

The Body Wash has extracts of sandalwood and raspberry and has a sweet rose scent. It is rather thick and a little goes a long way which means the tube should last a while. Don’t use too much of the body wash on the puff or you will spend ages trying to rinse it out!

The body soufflé is rose scented and also contains sandalwood and vanilla and does a great job moisturising the skin well. Both products leave you feeling clean and smelling fresh.

The Face Edit With Estee Lauder, Kiehl’s and Jurlique

In this hot weather, I’m keeping makeup to a minimum.

Kiehl’s Deep Moisture Clarifying Crème – £41
As the sun can make skin discolouration and hyperpigmentation worse, I’ve been wearing Kiehl’s Deep Moisture Clarifying Crème. The latest addition to Kiehl’s skin-clarifying product range, this cream helps improve the appearance of dark spots and discolorations. It contains white birch and peony extract to hydrate and help provide long-term radiance. It was formulated with Asian skins in mind but I think it works just as well on brown skins. Wear daily to help improve skin clarity.

Estee Lauder Pure Colour Cheek Rush – £24
These cute pots of cheek stain are a great way to add a subtle hint of colour to the face. They give you a lightweight, natural, fresh finish and in this weather, won’t sit on your face and melt into your lap. Creative Makeup Director for Estée Lauder, Tom Pecheux said: “This season, I’ve been working a lot with what I call “aqua colour”.
It’s a gentle, watery look with just a touch of bright, vibrant colour.” I tried the Cheek Rush in Turbo Jam and loved the watery gel finish and the way it complimented my skin tone. Estee Lauder advises quickly blending a tiny drop of this silky liquid-gel in a circular motion on to the apples of cheeks for a ‘just pinched’ look. Worked for me!

Jurlique Deluxe Edition Rosewater Balancing Mist – £41
In hot weather, facial mists were a must and my favourite was the Jurlique Deluxe Edition Rosewater Balancing Mist. Exclusive to M&S Your Beauty stores this lightweight mist provides a wonderfully refreshing shot of precious Rose flower extracts and plant botanicals to help hydrate the skin. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this product go to the Jurlique Ideas of Beauty Fund which supports beautiful ideas that empower and educate women globally. I spritz myself before bed, before applying make up; I even lug it around to my bag to stay fresh when I’m out and about. It may not be hot anymore but central heating is not our skin’s friend.

Joico Smooth Cure Range

The new Joico Smooth Cure range was especially developed for curly, frizzy and coarse hair.

It has been reformulated and repackaged and is sulfate-free so helps to tame hair, leaving it smooth and glossy while protecting against the dreaded humidity.

The range helps reduce frizz thanks to KeraShield Complex; a blend of oils and butters fused with hydrolyzed keratin to nourish, hydrate, strengthen and protect hair. Joico Smooth Cure also contains Bio-Advanced Peptide Complex; a new technological breakthrough from JOICO, which replicates the DNA of healthy human hair, rebuilding the protein structure to leave damaged and weakened tresses reconstructed and healthy.

I tried the Thermal Styling Protectant and the Leave in Rescue Treatment.

The Leave-In Rescue Treatment is a heat activated treatment which mimics the results of a Brazilian blow-dry by bonding keratin to the hairs surface. It helps in smoothing hair, fighting frizz and resisting reversion back to curl when you were aiming for straight. It also contains Guar Gum extract for some extra smoothness.

Thermal Styling Protectant is ideal for use during heat styling. It’s a spray which helps seal in the effects of Leave-In Rescue Treatment, protecting from reversion and thermal damage by up to 232 degrees.

Joico Smooth Cure Leave-In Rescue Treatment – £12.95
Joico Smooth Cure Thermal Styling Protectant - £12.95

CO YO Coconut Milk Yoghurt

If you’re intolerant to everything (like me) or simply want to enjoy a genuinely good for you yummy treat, you need Co Yo in your fridge and in your life.

CO YO Coconut Milk Yoghurt is made from 98% pure coconut and the only non-dairy fresh yoghurt available that is not made from soya. I’ve been having soya yoghurt for breakfast for the past ten years so the change was more than welcomed!

Each 100g pot contains one whole coconut and is 100% dairy free, gluten free, lactose free and soya free. Despite all this, it tastes absolutely wonderful! I’ve not on board the coconut water bandwagon yet as I drank some fresh out of the coconut on one Caribbean holiday and was swiftly put off. I’m really not a huge coconut fan but despite being almost 100% coconut, Co Yo isn’t overpowering thanks to the range of flavours available; pineapple mixed berry, coconut, mango and vanilla (coming soon).

Co Yo is rich and creamy and unless you are used to eating ‘free from’ you might not appreciate how rare that is! Most free from products are crammed full of sugar to make them palatable but not only is Co Yo sugar free, each 100g pot has less than 200 calories.

My son, sister and 2 year old nephew are also dairy intolerant so I thought I’d let them have a taste test. My nephew ate the chocolate one straight out of the pot (with his fingers at one point) and cried when his mum tried to have a spoonful. He was inconsolable when the pot was finished too! My son preferred it the way I eat it for breakfast; with mixed berries and toasted millet and buckwheat flakes.

Another thing I like about Co Yo is that are surprisingly filling. Considering a pot is only 100g, it locks hunger away for ages; I ate a pot at 11 am and wasn’t hungry again until 4 pm!

Although coconuts have been used in West Indian cooking for years, the Western world is only recently starting to appreciate the fruit. It is known for:

  • Improving digestion and absorption of other nutrients including vitamins, minerals and amino acids
  • Speeding up the metabolism, aiding weight loss
  • Boosting energy as it contains medium chain fatty acids that are used in the body in different ways to normal fat. Rather than being stored as fat, these fatty acids boost energy and the immune system.

Even if you don’t have to eat ‘free from’ I recommend you give Co Yo a try.

£1.99 for 125g, £3.49 for 250g and £5.00 for a 400g pot. Available from Wholefoods, Planet Organic, Ocado and independent health food stores.

Elemental Herbology Cell Food

Cell Food from Elemental Herbology has been well reported on for its anti-ageing properties.

As that’s not a skin concern I have (yet) I thought I’d give it a try to see how well it fared against things that I need help on; namely transforming dull skin, promoting radiance, reducing pigmentation and balancing the complexion.

Screen Shot 2013-08-13 at 14.43.32

Cell Food contains a powerhouse of ingredients:

• Vitamin A, C and E, Co-Enzyme Q10 and Green Tea to protect against free radical damage
• Pomegranate to help even skin tone
• Kombuchka to aid improvement in skin texture and reduce pigmentation
• Soya Lecithin, high in B vitamins and anti-oxidants, to moisturise and soften dry and dehydrated skin
• Aloe Vera and Rose Damask Water to soothe, calm and restore balance.

For optimum results apply three drops – a little goes a long way – onto cleansed skin (before day/night cream) twice a day. I was religious about it and the results were clear to see. A few people at work asked if I’d been away as I looked really well (I hadn’t) and even my husband remarked that my skin looked really good.

Good skin really improves the confidence; instead of full on foundation I’ve been wearing a sweep of MAC Mineralise Powder or a little IMAN BB Cream as my skin looks and feels good enough to go for a really light touch.

Cell Food has been called a facial in a jar. In my case it’s a holiday!

Elemental Herbology Cell Food – £45/30ml

Clarins Graphic Expressions Autumn Make-Up Collection

I’m a sucker for products that emphasise eyes and this season, Clarins have come up trumps with their graphic expressions collection. They’ve re-launched their ‘3 Dot liner’ (£20) and brought out a new kohl crayon (£17) and ‘Be Long’ mascara (£21).

The 3-Dot Eye Liner was first launched in 2012 but this time it has been enriched with growth-stimulating ingredients which condition lashes as you weave the pen tool between them. The triple point sponge applicator gives very precise lines so even the most eyeliner challenged should be able to use it with ease.

I go through eye pencil almost as much as I do mascara so I’m rather fond of the new Clarins kohl. I don’t wear any colour other than black so have been using this crayon eye pencil as a traditional kohl inside the lower lash and around the eye contour area. The pencil comes with a free sharpener and a natural hair brush applicator so you can smudge and contour to your heart’s content.

My go to mascara is Clarins Wonder Perfect and I didn’t think I could be swayed but the new Be Long mascara has improved on an already winning formula. With active ingredients Matrikine (a peptide that enhances lash growth) and Panthenol (which helps strengthen lashes) along with a specially designed, tilted brush, you can get away with just the one application for lashes to be visibly lengthened. The brush also has a seven-degree incline, which helps the mascara stay on the lashes only, preventing any smudges or clumps.

The Clarins Graphic Expressions collection is perfect for those who like to make their eyes the focus of the face. They are the windows to the soul after all!

Reiss’ Debut Fragrances For Him & Her

I love Reiss; their clean, minimalist, luxurious aesthetic is right up my street. The Duchess of Cambridge is also a fan; she has been known to frequent (and then sell out) their dresses.

Their debut fragrances are in keeping with that ethos; Reiss Grey Flower for Women and Reiss Black Oudh for Men.

Grey Flower for Women has a centre of sequoia wood, jasmine noir and cocoa leaf, a base of olibanum, amber crystals, patchouli and baies. It’s classic, modern and elegant. I’m not one for overpowering sickly sweet, overly fruity scents so Grey Flower for Women is right up my street.

Black Oudh for Men has top notes of laurel leaf and green cypress, a heart of sequoia wood, clary sage and vetiver and black oudh, black musk and amber at the base. Mr 32 Boroughs is particularly taken with it.

These scents have been months in the making according to David Reiss, Founder & MD of the brand: “The luxury experience is driven by stimulating the senses within a space; whether visually inspiring through print and silhouette, texturally enticing in beautiful fabrication or indeed provoking a response with
a bespoke scent. We are excited to be enhancing our offering with the launch of our debut fragrances, blended with a master perfumer in our modern, sensuous and iconic environment.”

Reiss Grey Flower For Women Eau de Parfum 100ml/£49, 50ml/£35.00, 30ml/£25.00
Reiss Black Oudh For Men Eau de Parfum 100ml/£49.00, 50ml/£35.00

Available exclusively in Selfridges from September 19th 2013.
From September 26 they will be available from and Reiss stores nationwide.
